Our Friday evening regular is rolled out once again, as we highlight another trio of overlooked Fantasy alternatives for your perusal ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline. This time round, we offer a route into the two most lethal attacks around right now and also consider a fit-again full-back with a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon…

Javier Hernandez

Climbing off the bench at Villa last Saturday evening, the Mexican’s deadly eye for goal broke the hosts’ hearts and helped United to yet another three points in their bid to reclaim the title. Such was Hernandez’s impact, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed post-match that the forward’s performance had earned him the right to start against Norwich this weekend – a claim once again reiterated by the United boss this morning.

Looking at the statistics, Hernandez been more than a little unlucky to have earned minimal game time. A single start so far this season harvested a nine point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) return in Gameweek 4, with a goal, assist and couple of bonus points against Wigan. Hernandez has played just 205 minutes in the league and has racked up four goals – Wayne Rooney has scored twice in 567 minutes by comparison.

Ferguson’s words of assurance have seen Hernandez acquired by significant numbers heading into tomorrow’s deadline – 51,000 FPL managers have snapped up the 7.6 priced forward thus far, yet Hernandez remains a real differential, with an ownership just slightly in excess of 3%. Similarly in the Sky Sports game, he comes in at 7.8 and is currently in just 1% of managers’ plans. With Rooney still a doubt due to the ankle problem that forced him off in last weekend’s 3-2 win, Hernandez looks set to partner Van Persie for the trip to Carrow Road and with United’s flourishing attack scoring three times in all but one of their last five road trips, goals look on the menu once again tomorrow evening.

Bryan Ruiz

It was a difficult first season for the Costa Rican. Ruiz arrived from Dutch outfit FC Twente with an impressive goalscoring tally (35 in 65 games) but the rigours of the Premier League proved initially problematic and matches all too often seemed to pass him by. Managing the full 90 minutes just nine times in 27 appearances, his Fantasy impact was minimal, with a couple of goals and four assists indicative of his early struggles.

This time round, it’s a different matter. Having finally grown accustomed to the greater demands of the English top-flight, Ruiz has turned in a series of strong performances as Jol’s side rack up the goals. Already, he has seven assists and has found the net once in eight appearances and with Dimitar Berbatov adding further class through the middle, the Costa Rican has racked up 42 FPL points – over five points per game.

Granted, the Bulgarian’s superior scoring rate and mid-price appeal is difficult to ignore but for those Fantasy managers intent on a cut-price route into the second most prolific attack in the league so far, Ruiz is an intriguing option. While a home clash against Sunderland tomorrow holds undoubted appeal, Fulham have shown an ability to find the net regardless of opponent – Jol’s men have notched twice against United and Everton and put three past Arsenal last time out. Priced at 5.8 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, an ownership of 2% and 0.2% respectively highlights the extent as to which Ruiz has been ignored.

Jose Enrique

Brendan Rodgers’ arrival on Merseyside had initially seemed the perfect fit for the former Newcastle man. The new manager’s preferred 4-3-3 system, with full-backs pushing on and offering threat from deep seemed tailor-made for Enrique’s attacking tendencies but injuries, combined with an initial lack of defensive solidity, saw the Spaniard drift off Fantasy radars.

Having fully recovered in recent weeks, Enrique is finally beginning to nail down a regular role for Liverpool, with a brief shift to 3-5-2 even affording him a chance on the left of midfield against Chelsea last weekend. Unbeaten in their last six, the vast majority of attention has understandably been heaped on the shoulders of Luis Suarez but, particularly at home, the Reds backline is also starting to produce. Rodgers’ men have shipped a single goal in their previous three at Anfield and this weekend welcome a Wigan side with just two goals in their last four road trips.

Priced at 5.7 in FPL and 6.9 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 3% and 2% respectively, Enrique could once again come into contention as a viable Fantasy prospect, with a strong upcoming schedule offering clear potential over the Gameweeks ahead.

About 2.7k transferred out required between 2:00-2:17am for Cazorla to drop in price. His price should not drop, I think... Anyway, Caz -> Silva is tempted.

Any Caz owners still keep him?

Yeah I am - I think patience is a virtue with these kinds of players. Mata flew under a lot of people's radars last season yet ended up with 160+ points. Cazorla, I believe, will be the same and, now Giroud is scoring and they have good fixtures, I think his stock will rise.

I think Mata has the edge on Cazorla attacking wise. But I hope Cazorla proves people wrong a bit. Mata is simply one of the best attacking players around for my money.

Will Giroud and Walcott start? I have seen they are flagged.. 🙄

His price, btw, has not dropped. I'm now happy to keep him for London derby, but not sure if Silva vs Villa could outscore him.. 😕

I have kept him along with Bale. I figure the derby will be their last chance to prove themselves at that price, with a blank giving Silva the opportunity to play himself in this Gw.

Anybody know what the deal is with McCartney of WHM? Taken off with 'a knock' last week and not in the FFS Team Sheets but no flag.

It's not a disaster if he's injured and out but I don't want him coming on for Demel in the 75th minutes or something!

    I must be missing somthing.

Why is there any debate on "who to captain" this week. If you own RVP....why would you even question it.

    1. Has recorded at least 1 assist in each of his 9 starts
    2. Rooney is injured now #1 on Peno's
    3. Yellow flag is a phantom international injury
    4. Even if his injury is legitimate...if he is fit, he will start...if un fit he will not make the bench
    5. I do not buy "Hernandez will take the central attacking role and take his goals" therory...(he hit the bar twice while chicarito was on the pitch".

      Agree with all the above.

But Hernandez, will take the central striker spot and RvP will do a bit of dropping deep and moving around for sure. It'll definitely decrease his potential, but shouldn't be much of a problem.

Chicharito could end up doing what Walcott was doing for RVP last year. Laying the ball across the box for taps in because of his speed. Let's hope that's the case today.

Scoring goals is his game for sure. But like Superdunny says, he has an unselfish quality too. You can sense it in his interviews. He wants to work for the team. He will be doing his best to feed in RVP all game I hope.

It will be an interesting scenario for SAF if this proves to be the case. Because we also know that Rooney and Welbeck has a nice thing going on. They could potentially be two rotating striker pairs for CL and PL games

There is no way Rooney gets genuinely rotated for premier league games. All the 'big' matches will see RVP and Rooney both starting, sometimes with one of Wellbeck/Hernandez as well i'd imagine

Another thing I might add about Chicharito is that this is his first start for a while and last time he started he got a goal and an assist. (albeit missed a penalty but we can forgive him for that)

I think he's the type of player who will be desperate to prove himself and to play his way into the side. Failure just isn't an option as Fergie is finally giving him a start on merit not just because of rotation. So it may bode well for Man Utd's overall attacking performance and RVP. Basically because they are brimming with confidence they could run riot.

Well, I'm just saying there is potential there. If they can get going earlier this game. They put 3 past Villa and hadn't scored around the 60th minute or something.

Norwich have been really improving and are solid. But they are also so tame. If they go 1-0 down it will be curtains surely. I'm just trying to be optimistic really. They've conceded lots of goals to the teams with attacking verve (Chelsea, Fulham, Suarez!)

Anyway, I've "sorted" my GK dilemma - reason being, I think they'll want him back for the derby.... but, just watch, he'll fail a fitness test now...

Taarabt is QPR's biggest attacking threat and should also reclaim spot-kick duties now he's back in the side. I like him. You don't win this game without taking risks. He could grab a nice haul at home to suffering Saints...

Struggling for funds for the more likely transfers in. Any suggestions on how to gain the cash to bring in one of the big names?

Possible ins are: Silva Fellaini Berbatov

    Jaas (Federici)
    Ivanovic Baines McAuley Clyne Demel
    Mata Michu Bale Pienaar Noble

This is possibly too geeky even for the deadzone but has anyone ever counted up how many points they've made from MID clean sheets over a season or factored it in when assessing a MID's value?

Along with save points I'm sure it's one of the most underrated stats in the game. Mata, for example, got me 13 CS points last season, that's the equivalent of 4 assists or almost 3 goals!

How many gameweeks did you have Mata for? 13 is quite a lot. Generally players tend to not be in any side for much longer than 15-20 gameweeks a season surely.

Not really considered it. Comparing it to 4 assists/3 goals is a bit flawed also as those assists and goals would surely have seen accompanying bonus points?

Slightly in tune with what you are saying...I was looking at Silva's stats across all of last season. And that popped into my head. Even when Silva wasn't returning assists/goals. He probably picked up more CS points than most mids on average.

it is pretty easy to figure out.....avg CS per season is 7 per team....max 17.

For the most part that's true although you get the odd player who is taken off with 10 mins to go and avoids accountability for the late goal. The benefit would probably be rounded out by the loss of playing time though.

I guess CS from MIDs is basically a 'nice to have'.

No change. 1 FT saved in the pocket for a few changes next week and I'm ready to go with this team.
I chose to start Demel and keep Gorkss the last on bench. Is this all right?

    Begovic
    Rafael, Demel, Baines
    Mata, Fellaini, Santi, Bale
    RvP, Ba, Berbatov (vc)

With so much attacking talent at Arsenal I find it hard to imagine others such as Wilshire and Walcott not having a negative impact on Cazorlas attacking output.

Wilshere's being in the team should benefit Cazorla - Wilshere's goalscoring record is pretty much non-existent. He keeps things ticking over well but the likes of Cazorla and Walcott will be bagging the majority of the points.

Caz will see less of the ball though and Wilshire does have assist potential. Basically Caz isn't the only creator any more. Walcott will also have a significant share in Arsenals goal threat possibly impacting on Cazorla.
