Tuesday’s matches lived up to expectations, as four sides low on confidence and fraught with stuttering form served up a single goal and limited returns. Here’s the Stock Check on this evening’s events…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
Thrown into the Scout Picks, the formidable Belgian striker delivered a third goal of the season to provide a vital winner for Villa. With Darren Bent kept in the stands, Benteke justified Paul Lambert’s faith in him with another muscular display. Maximum bonus beckons and it’s QPR and Stoke over the next two.

The Villa Defence
While Paul Lambert’s back four have conceded eight goals in their last five, all eight of those conceded came against United and City, meaning that the Villa back four have kept three clean sheets around those two matches. Three away games in the next four is an obstacle to investment, although their progress is clearly worth monitoring. Scout Pick Ciaran Clark has the goal threat to accompany defensive returns but he joined the suspension tightrope with his fourth booking tonight.

Adel Taarabt
There were question marks over the Moroccan’s role when Harry Redknapp took the reins but tonight’s showing indicated that Taarabt will remain a key figure and certainly QPR’s biggest threat and creative influence. While he drew a blank this evening, Fantasy managers will be monitoring his potential as QPR’s schedule improves.

Going Down

Sunderland’s Attack
With six goals in their last three matches, both Stephane Sessegnon and Steven Fletcher have attracted inevitable interest with a double Gameweek looming. However, tonight provided more evidence that we must remain cautious on their potential. Martin O’Neill’s side laboured again, with the bulk of their efforts on goal fired in from range.

Kaspar Gorkss
The Latvian was presumably rested, with Adrian Mariappa drafted into the centre of the Reading back four. Brian McDermott’s decision to omit the senior member of his defence could be significant given that Sean Morrison retained his start. With Chris Gunter also rotated out, the security of starts in the Reading rearguard is again in question.

Julio Cesar
The Brazilian reportedly picked up a groin injury in the first half and was denied clean sheet returns with Robert Green taking over for the second period. He’ll presumably be an early doubt for the meeting with Villa this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm starting to lean towards keeping Tevez for EVE, tbh.
Southampton could frustrate us at Anfield .. Suarez MIGHT only get 5 to 9 points.

Suarez defo. No guarentee Tevez will start. In fact don't know why he hasn't started the last two for City. I mean how can you go frm 2 goals and 2 assists against Villa to sitting on the bench next two. Something up there

I just want to say transfering Fletcher was the right thing to do, sure Sunderland werent great today but Fletcher only needs one chance to score.

2pts from Fletcher obviously isn't ideal but he could all of a sudden score 2 next game against Norwich and then he'll rise .3 quickly before his DGW. Then in the DGW your already a winner since he'll get 4pts anything else is a bonus. Then you can easily transfer him out just in time for Berba easier fixtures.

Fletcher is the only attacking player worth transfering in apart from Cuellar mostly people have stuck with him like myself who finally rewarding us and Mignolet anyone else aint worth it and is stupid.

This is true but Stive's point is still valid - I think it's a worthwhile transfer because of the points he mentions. If Fletch scores he invariably will get 7 pts because no-one else does so a good chance of 3bp. He's got decent short-term fixtures plus DGW plus a lot of NTIs so he can be sold and improvements made elsewhere in the team. This all adds up to a decent FPL purchase and I must admit I'm tempted.

I disagree. Mediocre player in a team that can't string three passes together, up against two teams that are better than their reputation right now.

Can't argue with the double gameweek point I suppose, but you could get them 4 points from any Sun/Rdg player

It doesn't have to be long term WR. If he posts big scores over 4-5 weeks which is highly possible that will be good enough. People have sat on Baines who has done nothing for 5-6 weeks and haven't thought about it. Baines is 7.6, He's already posted 24 points in the last 2 games and that could easily have been another 8 or 9 last week as the offside was marginal, Deff worth the risk imo.

Brave, I grant ye. Probably not worth losing, except for Gorkss who appears to have been put down by McDermott.

What makes the attacking options especially unattractive is the other options.

Defensive options are okay. Though I definitely see them conceding to Chelsea.

I thought everyone had Cuellar / Sunderland defender for their home CS already (a bit like Begovic) but I guess I overestimated. Yeah defence is where it's at. I'd consider Shorey outside the DGW anyway, his crossing is considerable.

Me too. Hi mate! Got a new plan for next week.

Will do Baines, Ba and Berba -> Giroud, Suarez (if he doesn't get a yellow) and Shorey (DGW) for a 4 point hit. That will leave me with 0.3 or 0.2 in the bank and hopefully I can ditch Foster and still get Mignolet for the DGW.

With the triple transfer I will get Arsenal cover, Suarez(who's on form) and a DGW player. Already have Wisdom too.

        Team: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/141/event-history/14/

        Thoughts?

Tough call. I would not want to lose Berb and Baines, but would definitely want to go Ba to Suarez. Could you plunder Nolan and Ridgwell and achieve the same thing? If not what you plan is a legitimate move, but could bite you.

I can't 🙁 Don't feel that Baines warrants his price tag and I can't get Walcott with the same move with ditching Nolan so I think I might do that. I just feel that Arsenal cover is needed more or less with their fixtures.

I could do the same move and keep Berba but which midfielder looking at the fixtures would I get for 7.8-7.9mil tops? (don't want a Sunderland one for sure).

Totally agree with your plan. To Baines or not to Baines is a personal question. If you are ready to lose him then get the best you can. I just would not lose Berb, personally, but Giroud could be a decent replacement. I wouldn't get rid of any other mids for Walcott, so if you can't afford Walcott with Nolan, and you want Arsenal, then your first plan is the way to go.
