It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Steven Gerrard so far. While many of the premium midfielders have justified their lofty Fantasy price tags, the Liverpool skipper has been overshadowed by the cut-price appeal afforded by Raheem Sterling at Anfield, while Luis Suarez has proved the Reds’ inspiration after a patchy start under Brendan Rodgers.

As mentioned in Monday’s Technical Area, however, the return of Lucas could be key to an upturn in his captain’s campaign. Sidelined since Gameweek 2, the Brazilian’s comeback against Southampton last weekend seems to have afforded Gerrard more leeway to bomb forward and help Suarez in attack. In terms of goal attempts and chances created against Nigel Adkins’ men, Gerrard’s statistics were a significant improvement on his previous endeavours and suggest that, with Lucas stationed in front of the back-four, he could be a different proposition altogether.

While Rodgers’ side have a tricky trip to Upton Park on the horizon this weekend, the upcoming schedule is sure to bring investment their way. Home clashes against Villa, Fulham and Sunderland in the following five look enticing, with the Merseysiders having won three of their last four at home, and although a trip to Stoke is never appealing, Liverpool’s visit to Loftus Road could prove prosperous before the schedule takes a turn for the worse in Gameweek 22.

After serving his upcoming one-match suspension at Upton Park, Suarez will undoubtedly pick up more interest to boost his current 27% ownership, while Sterling – already popular with 22% of Fantasy managers – will also climb. Jose Enrique continues to attract plenty new suitors – over 16,000 have snapped up the Spaniard heading into the weekend; despite moving back to defence from a place in the front three, he still showed plenty menace against the Saints. This leaves Gerrard somewhat overlooked and with an ownership of less than 4% in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), he has the potential to be an intriguing differential. Ruled out of last night’s Europa League clash with Udinese as a precautionary measure due to illness, Gerrard’s return to the squad for this weekend’s Hammers clash has already been confirmed by Brendan Rodgers, casting aside any doubts over his availability.

Priced at 9.3 in FPL and 7.8 in the Sky Sports game, he doesn’t come cheap but with similarly priced midfielders such as Juan Mata and Eden Hazard facing a blank Gameweek 17 and struggling to produce under Rafa Benitez, Gerrard could appeal to those looking to freshen up their five-man midfields. With Gareth Bale ruled out for a couple of matches, Theo Walcott out for Arsenal and Roberto Mancini admitting he “will try” to have David Silva ready for this weekend, Gerrard offers a straight swap, with spot-kicks and a share of set-pieces also in his locker. While a return of two goals and four assists sum up his season up to now, Lucas’ return has released the central midfield shackles and should allow Gerrard the chance to prosper as Rodgers looks to take advantage of an eye-catching set of festive fixtures.

    I just can't pick a captain

Might just go back to Michu, not sure Caz or Ramirez warrant it, and who knows with RvP

it's a coin toss for me - have Beggo in there at the min, could change - probably not though, West Ham will in my opinion (as a West Ham fan) concede - Stoke are more likely for a clean one in my opinion

I have Jussi and Bego - my gut says Stoke have a better chance of a cleany but the stats/the rule is that always sticking with the homekeeper over 38 games yields the greater return. Apparently.

Repost from bottom of page sorry - Granville, there there poppet *strokes your poor head*

    Afternoon all

For the last 2 years I think I’ve been the anti-Granville. Every DGW has returned Rooney, Berba, RVP, Bale, Assou Ekotou etc.

I just can’t resist a dabble (although now I’ve just jinxed it).

I have Cuellar pluease 5.5 on a mf or 6.8 on a df. I’m thinking Gardner for Sunderland? Could anyone give me a second opinion on who’d be worthwhile? thanks

Why is Mata not on the captain poll this week?

Surely Sunderland don't pose much of a threat. Mata is class. Had a goal and 2 assists midweek.
The only thing holding back is Benitez's rotation, but surely he must realize how important Mata is to Chelsea's offense.

    Bego (Mcarthy)

ok I find it obvious because:

If Bego has a clean sheet and 3 saves, he ll have 7 points most. If he concedes, he ll have 3 points most. So 3-7 points.

Mignolet will start with 4 and has 2 chances for clean sheet and saves.

Thanks. The only thing stopping me is probably Norwich being tight at the back. I don't think I like any of my options this week!

Was recommended this site by a friend, and was wondering if someone could RMT?

    Begovic, Jaaskalinen
    Cameron, Gibbs, O'Brien, Clyne, Enrique
    Michu, Sessegnon, Fellaini, Sterling, Guthrie
    RVP, Ba, Fletcher

Got 1.7m in the bank, and 1 FT. Anything worth changing this week?

Also, struggling a bit on who to bench. Who would people recommend?

    Thanks for any help.

      Clyne to Shorey

      Bench Gibbs, Obrien, and Guthrie.

Team looks decent. Maybe Ba > Defoe but could wait for a week on that one. O'brien's fixtures are tricky - maybe upgrade to Nastasic, but again that could wait a week. I think the answer is save your transfer.
      Subs should be:
      O'brien, Clyne and Sterling

I would bench Guthrie instead of Clyne I totally agree with the rest

Any Wigan fans with anything on Maloney?

Also, I see Rosicky isn't mentioned in the Arsenal team news on here, he has a good chance of starting right?

50-50. Might start if he is match fit. I expect him to start. Arsenal need him badly.

No need for transfers unless you want someone in defence who has a double gameweek, and out of that lot i`d probably end up benching Sterling, possibly Guthrie.

Wouldn't ditch Silva for a hit, I reckon he might just make it.

Calf injury, which is both good and bad news. Hamstrings are the worst injuries for those kinds of players, but IIRC Walcott had a calf injury about the same time last year which kept him out for around a month. Dont quote be on that though.

We won't know if he is fit before the deadline, and there is always the chance he rolls his ankle in the Chelsea game and does not play in the Reading game...I have him but won't be (c) him.

My front 3 for this week is RVP, Tevez, Suarez.
Anyone else with this problem. Considering shipping out Tevez instead of Suarez as I'll only want him back next week and Tevez rotation threat is already becoming a headache.

I have Tevez and Suarez too. Benching Suarez and hoping Tevez justifies being kept. I'm hoping Dzeko's gametime will begin to lessen.
