[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A trio of protagonists are set to sit out their respective sides’ upcoming domestic fixtures after the weekend’s action. Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu both picked up their fifth cautions of the campaign and are unavailable for Gameweek 18, while Gary Cahill’s dismissal in Chelsea’s World Cup Championship loss to Corinthians will earn him a one-match ban for the Blues’ midweek Capital One Cup trip to Leeds:

Sidwell’s suspension curtails his recent rise to form – the midfielder has returned a goal and assist over his last couple for Fulham, while tough-tackling Mulumbu’s loss is likely to have a knock-on effect for James Morrison. With Claudio Yacob remaining a doubt for West Brom, Morrison looks set to continue in a deeper-lying role as Norwich roll up to the Hawthorns next Saturday.

Cahill’s clash with Emerson, which led to his red card, is set to be reviewed by FIFA’s disciplinary committee this week. While they could potentially increase the ban, it is not expected to be extended, meaning he will be available for the home clash against Villa next Sunday.

Elsewhere, the tightrope welcomes five new members after their weekend indiscretions. Mike Williamson, Adel Taarabt, Billy Jones, Kevin Nolan and Jermain Defoe must now be on their best behaviour over the next three Gameweeks – another caution will earn them an automatic one-match ban before the limit is extended to 10 yellows at the New Year.

Heading into this evening’s match at the Madejski, there are five players currently sitting on three yellows apiece. Olivier Giroud, Thomas Vermaelen, Noel Hunt, Mikele Leigertwood and Adrian Mariappa are all just one caution away from joining the above-mentioned players on the tightrope as the festive period picks up in pace.

The main topic of contention this week, however, is the possible ban facing Marouane Fellain after his headbutt on Ryan Shawcross in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia. If the FA decide to act, as expected, it remains to be seen just how many matches he could potentially miss – David Moyes has already admitted Everton won’t contest any charge. Behind the scenes, we’re making tentative plans for a Fellaini suspension, with an article set to follow later this week on the myriad of exit routes available should he fall foul of the authorities.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Have you seen the footage?, I watched it last night, they could give him two 3's and he has already had a ban so they could make it 7 games. I don't know the disciplinary rules but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a huge ban.

    Lost on last page.

Yaya or Silva? Discussion was present a few pages back but didn’t get anywhere. Both nailed on it seems. City chasing games means Yaya pushing up. City winning games means Silva being involved. I have no other pressing concerns so need to decide which to pick for Fella.

I think it is as simple as Silva if no hit, Yaya if hit required for Silva - on the assumption that both would only be held while Fellaini serves his assumed ban.

No hit required to get Silva in. But someone mentioned earlier, the difference in points isn’t that much by the end of the season?

Well it was either Silva or Mata but Mata would be tired/rotated/playingforchelseawithTorres. So opted for Silva. Then someone mentioned Yaya and I was tempted. Looks like Silva it is for now?

    4pts. hit,

    surely a yes?

my front 8 after the hit

    Morrison Silva Walcott Michu Punchy
    Suarez Berba RVP

and that will still give me enough fund to upgrade walcott>Bale/mata this week or week after
also, if rooney instead of RVP, I can get morrison out instead of walcott

How much are you ahead? If you still have Baines (and I do), I don't think I would drop him ahead of his next two. I'm looking at Fellaini -> Ramirez, better fixtures than Puncheon and has dropped a little. Could be good value at 5.8.

The Reading game could turn out as piss poor as Liverpool's much-antipicated super-anticlimatic Southampton game... COULD.

I quite like that option, but he's 33 now and I'd be very surprised if he played a full role in the Christmas games. All in all too risky I think. Morrisson more nailed on for starts if you want to go that kind of route for Felliani replacement.

Just looked through all of Villa's games so far this season to try and see between Herd and Baker

    GW1 & 2 - Baker played LB, Herd was benched GW1, played midfield GW2.
GW3 - 7 - neither played any part, nor were they on the bench. According to this http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2526915,00.html Herd was 'sore, but he will be fine...he is fine now'. This was before the Swansea game in GW4. Peculiar because he went missing for the next month
GW8 - Clark didn't play, Baker started CB but got injured http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2975232,00.html Herd wasn't anywhere to be seen still. (still injured?)
GW9 - Herd started and played 90 minutes vs Norwich, Baker I assume was still injured
    10-13 - Both injured. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/qpr-v-aston-villa-aston-161951
GW14 - Baker started in place of Vlaar, still no Herd.
GW15 onwards - Baker and Herd both start all 3 games with Vlaar injured.

One thing I did notice is Enda Stevens (3.9) has started every game when fit a LB, Lichaj benched for him whenever available. Whether Stevens will play when he returns now they have changed to 3-5-2 remains to be seen though.

I've seen the Puncheon/Sterling combo spouted as a perfect way to have a cheap rotation for your 4th mid. But they actually don't rotate H/A anymore. It doesn't look like the best idea now because of this. I'm thinking of buying Puncheon and just selling Sterling for a profit. Anyone else thinking the same?

I fancy Wilshere to be a divisive player come January wildcard. Some decent stats, perhaps a goal and an assist will have FFS arguing. Those who insist he's fantasy dirge and those who feel that he's a punt at 6.4.

This is a big factor. I think most thought a Cazorla-Arteta-Wilshere- midfield partnership would see the latter 2 deeper as a platform for the former. But actually it's been the other way round so far.

He'll definitely score and make more goals as he develops - whether or not it happens enough to make him a good fpl pick this season, or next, or the one after - is another thing. It'll be like Fabregas I reckon - one summer he'll decide / get coached into taking more responsibility for scoring/making goals.
