634x258 Suspensions

Four players fell foul of the five-yellows limit in Gameweek 20, with Gareth Bale the most high profile protagonist to earn a one-match suspension ahead of a home match with Reading. West Ham pair Kevin Nolan and James Collins also sit on the naughty step for their game against Norwich at Upton Park, as does Bradley Johnson of Norwich City…

Despite seeing red on Saturday, Steven Nzonzi will be available for Stoke’s trip to City after the club lodged an appeal for wrongful dismissal last weekend. The midfielder was set to serve a three-match suspension for a challenge on Southampton’s Jack Cork but he’ll take his place in a likely rearguard effort at City in tomorrow’s clash.

Conflicting reports surround Samir Nasri’s availability. The Frenchman was handed a straight red for his “headbutt†attempt on Norwich’s Seb Bassong at the weekend – while the local press reported the club had decided to appeal, the Mail, however, have suggested that City won’t appeal. Earlier today, Roberto Mancini admitted he was uncertain whether the club would take any action – a three-match ban would see the Frenchman miss an FA Cup clash with Watford and league trip to former club Arsenal, in addition to the Potters’ clash.

The New Year brings a little more leeway now, with the Suspension Tightrope loosening considerably. Players now have to accrue 10 yellow cards to trigger an automatic suspension – if they reach that landmark by the second Sunday in April (Gameweek 33), they will be handed a two-match ban. So far, there are five players just three bookings away from – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Angel Rangel, Craig Gardner and Mark Noble have all received seven cautions apiece. Our sidebar widget has been updated accordingly and will be tracking all the way through to the April 14 date.

Elsewhere this week, Marouane Fellaini returns to the Everton fold for a trip to Newcastle after completing a three-match ban, while Mike Williamson will be hoping to help shore up the Magpies defence after he sat out the 7-3 loss at Arsenal due to a one-match ban. Stoke will be relieved Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron are back in contention for the trip to City, having conceded three at home to Southampton in the duo’s enforced absence at the weekend. Fabian Delph is available for Villa once again, as Paul Lambert tries to address his side’s woeful form as they head to Swansea tomorrow.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi all.

Considering Michu will be available for tomorrow (according to his twitter acount), who to bench from this fornt 8?
    - Michu, Walcott, Cazorla, Mata, Yaya
    - Suaréz, Ba, RVP

    Thanks.

    Cheers.

Yaya under normal circumstances. But I think Mata's quite likely to be rested.
Mata vs QPR at home is appetising though!

So it's a toss up between them.

Posted this in the DZ last night, what do people think of these two WC teams for after GW23? Plan is 3-5-2, benching Jones in most fixtures. The two differences are: Ba + Nastasic, or Suarez + Martins.

Personally want United and Chelsea coverage at the back. Think Cech-Rafael would be safer?

Will you ever actually be playing Jones with that midfield? Downgrade Jones to Pog, who is still a starter, and upgrade a defender in the Suarez team that is.

He's more of a fall-back in case someone doesn't play, gets suspended, picks up injury, etc. At least he's nailed on and has some potential. If Michu was playing the top 4 I'd play him depending on fixtures. Otherwise he'd be bench deadwood.

Already own Walcott, Bale might drop, Wilson could drop, and if Luiz rises anymore I can ditch him after the cash rise. Shouldn't be too bad. Fellaini and Nastasic will be the only threat I reckon as they are becoming quite popular again.

Transfers to phase over next 2 GW's so ready for DGW22:

    Out of this midfield:
Michu, Mata, Silva, Walcott, Punch – only Punch & Silva are really options for DGW transfers: So ‘ve come up with:
I have Gibbs & Walcott already

    A: Punch & Defoe > Nolan & Podolski
    B: Punch & Defoe > Caz & Cole
    C: Punch & Silva > Caz & Jarvis
    D: Punch & Silva & Defoe > Caz & Nolan & Cole (-4pts)
    E: Punch & Silva & Etheridge > Caz & Nolan & Jaas (-4pts)

To take a hit or not to take a hit in GW21?

Instead it's Silva this week, Bale next then Theo for the DGW. then it WC card time soon afterwards.

I did, and appreciate it. But I am not holding out much hope of receiving any dividends.

Anyone who doesn't take hits is not making full use of transfers and will typically do badly.

People who take too many hits (i.e. 13 in a month) are taking too many deductions and will also typically do badly.

It' all about balance. I always take about 15-20 a season, dependent on DGW opportunities.

I'm doing quite well and have taken only 2 hits - both of which worked out badly.

Most people, as far I as can see, that do very well, don't take many hits.

People are too short-termist with hits. If there are benefits over the next 3-4 GWs then they are often worth it.

But each to their own. Everyone plays different and 1,000s of people will still do quite well.

Struggling with the logic of many to take a hit on Enrique for an Arsenal defender at all, let alone this GW. CS in the next 3 games? I will be getting ready for DGW closer to the time, but avoiding defenders.

Agreed, if you can field 3 defenders no point in taking a hit.

According to himself, yes. Will Laudrup risk him before Arsenal in the cup though?

    Begovic – Foster
    Baines – Gibbs – Cuellar – Nelsen – Simpson
    Bale – Mata – Cazorla – Michu – Puncheon
    Suarez – Ba – Berbatov

    1FT, 1.0 in the bank

    Baines + Puncheon -> O'Brien + Fellaini for a hit ?
or next week for free ?
