It’s 2013 and time for Fantasy Football Scout to wish all our visitors and community members a very happy New Year!

Once again, I’d like to personally extend a huge thanks to those who have worked and continue to work with me on this site, across the various iterations and guises over the years. Every year that passes I have to pinch myself at how far we’ve come and it’s no different this past twelve months. The progress we’ve made and continue to make with this site is down to the passion and commitment of those who have lent their time behind the scenes and, without question, the obsessive passion and support of a community which I’m convinced is one of the best to be found anywhere on the net. Many thanks.

I look forward to 2013 with great anticipation. We’ve big plans to move things on, not least on the community side with a new comments system which will hopefully provide so much more than just plain comments – we’re custom building it to provide the backbone of the site and a platform for the community to grow stronger, both in terms of the content provided and the links between community members and the site. I can’t wait to start showing you progress – hopefully in January, certainly in February, when we plan to start recruiting beta testers. More on that to come.

Wherever you are tonight, I hope you get home safely and with sober heads for the morning. There’s a deadline to meet and another Gameweek to test us. Here’s to a great 2012 and an even better 2013.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Who to captain?

    1) RVP : Rested last match so can be really explosive this match. And Wigan isn't exactly a defensive fortress. But this pick is really boring and everyone is doing it. (I want to be a hipster)

    2) Defoe : Had my gut on him that even I took out Berba for him. Has always been good vs Reading; scored a brace early this season and goal from last season. With Bale out, he may be the vocal attacking point for Tottenham. But Adebayor might creep in and do well instead of him, Ade did play well last match

    3) Suarez : Don't know why I put him here but he's hitting form and at home to Sunderland. He's basically carry Liverpool and if any goals gonna come, it's gonna be from this bucktooth racist. But compared to the other two, his fixture is just a little bit harder.

    tldr

      I like RVP.

      - Better underlying stats away from home. Shoots more often.
      - Wigan have conceded more penalties than any other team. No Rooney.
      - Has had his rest.

Calling Suarez a racist means we should be calling Rio a drug cheat, Giggs a cheater, Terry a scumbag...everytime they are mentioned.

But people quickly forget about British players...Suarez made a scapegoat.

Is Glen Johnson a season keeper because of his attacking threat ?

Or shall I lose him in the wildcard because of Liverpool’s tough fixtures ?

Bring him back again when the going gets good ?

I think I'm going to be lazy and captain RVP...penalties, 7 goals in 9 away starts with 3 assists on top of that, leading the line against fairly poor opposition (even if they did have an impressive game against Villa) Wigan do tend to concede over 2 goals a game on average.

But then I have this gut feeling about Mata bagging a brace and 3 assists in a rout. 😐

RVP or Walcott for me. Uncomfortable with captaining Mata with possibility of rotation. With all thats gone down last couple weeks would feel better going with something more guaranteed.

      RvP Pros:
      Almost all set-pieces
      No Rooney to steal points
RvP and Man Utd in goal scoring form
Martinez may just give up on the fixture as Clarke did and rest a few players
Most people will captain him so no losing ground

      RvP Cons:
      Hernandez to steal points
Wigan improved against Villa as they have their usual centre-backs fit...finally
Chelsea and Spurs have easier fixtures

On that basis it really has to be RvP

You are right that it is a different scenario to the Walcott conundrum last week, at least he was certain to start...

Mata and Michu are in the same catergory this week... high risk-high reward...

      Do it... 😉

Ugh. Just a little bit tipsy over here and just made my transfers for the week. Can't be a good combination! How's the squad looking for tomorrow?

    G: Begovic

    D: Davies - Gibbs - O'Brien

    M: Mata - Michu - Walcott (C) - Silva

    F: RVP (vc) - Benteke - Hernandez

    B: Gazzaniga - Cuellar - Cameron - Bale

          Maybe;

          Bego / someone
          Cameron Wilson Cuellar

And then a big hitter and another cheapie.

Mentioned about this on the discussion yesterday.

His injury was 1st November and the coach says he's gonna be out for 3 months. But he may expect a quick recovery.

3 months after 1st November should be on early Feb me thinks.

If he does come back on around that time, definitely a bargain.

It would be Mrs China Mag who brings him in (for benteke). She's currently sitting just inside the top 15,000, so would be hoping for Torres to propel her into the promised land of the top 10,000!

Is anyone going against the grain and not having Santi for the DGW? I have Gibbs and Walcott right now, and getting Pod or Giroud would mean I could lose Benteke (wba) rather than Silva (FUL) in GW23...

I'm actually becoming more and more comfortable going into the DGW with only Walcott and Gibbs as Arsenal coverage... and possibly no West Ham coverage, but it's likely that I will have O'Brien...

    Need some advise…
my current defense is: rafael demel davies cueller enrique

am thinking of doing tarabt + enrique >> fellaini + ?? (arsenal defender/clark)

    A: if i bring in mertesacker…
    Pros:
    - i have a decent defense this week already with rafael demel davies.
    - my tv will increase as an arsenal def will increase in value
    - if michu doesnt start, i will be having a good back up defender this week

    Cons:
    - the problem will be next GW as arse defender, demel and davies are unlikely to keep a clean sheet. so
i will start with rafael cueller ars defender against city which isnt great.
    - wont leave me with enough cash to do sterling to nolan next gw, i will then save an FT and do rafael + sterling >> cheapie + nolan in gw23.

    B: if i bring in clark…
    Pros:
    - i still have a decent defense in rafael demel davies
    - next gw, i can field rafael clark cueller. will bring in an arsenal defense just before the dgw for rafael.
    - i will have enough cash left in the bank to do sterling >> nolan next week

    Cons:
    - if michu or rafael doesnt start this week, then i will have clark coming in. but i expect both to play tho

I am leaning towards B as i can assess the arsenal defense till the dgw in terms of injuries and then bring in one of their players.

    Sorry for the essay lol
