Southampton battle for a point at St Mary’s as Theo Walcott endures a frustrating evening on his return to his former stamping ground. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Gaston Ramirez
Back in the side having been kept out of the heat of the Britannia battle, the Uruguayan fired home his third goal of the season to give the Saints the advantage. Ramirez has promised much since his arrival, without really catching fire as a Fantasy asset. With Adam Lallana seemingly sidelined for the foreseeable future, however, he looks to be a key figure in Southampton’s battle for survival and my yet draw our interest when fixtures fall kinder for Nigel Adkins’ men.

Jason Puncheon
A prime budget option, Puncheon has disappointed of late having looked to be making a mockery of his price tag. Nonetheless, the assist for tonight’s goal took him to six for the season and with two goals and a record that shows he’s started the last ten league matches, Puncheon is a reliable budget midfielder who offers attacking intent. He could yet show his worth if the Saints can improve their goal output.

The Southampton Defence
Prior to conceding three at Stoke, Nigel Adkins’ side had let in just four goals in six league outings. Tonight, the new resolute defence was again on show as Southampton worked tirelessly to stifle the Arsenal threat. Nathaniel Clyne missed out again with a knee problem but he and Jose Fonte are emerging as decent budget options in the light of the new emphasis on keeping things tight.

Going Down

Theo Walcott
While the Gunners man returned the assist for Do Prado’s own goal, Walcott suffered a miserable night back at his former club. Having seen little joy in the lone striker role, he was shifted to a wide role on the introduction of Oliver Giroud. Walcott cut a forlorn figure at the whistle and this was a far cry from the stunning display that helped see off Newcastle at the weekend.

Santi Cazorla
It’s just one assist in three matches now for the playmaker who has found himself dissolve into the background in Fantasy terms, as Walcott has come to the fore. Owners of Cazorla will surely have one eye on the double fixture in Gameweek 23 and hoping for a revival, while tonight’s showing from Walcott will perhaps do little to prompt the straight swap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd be surprised. The wall was inside the box - and although there may have been a touch outside it wasn't significant enough to affect the assist.

Hope so, looks like it deflected off a player outside the box into the wall. Motd showed it from a better angle.

On the now/later debate ... I have a feeling that there might be more FPL transfer activity on the week of deadline day than in this week, despite there being 10 days before the next PL games.

I didn't follow FISO and FPL Price Changes much in previous seasons, is the above statement a fair one?

any thoughts on last attacker, be it a mid or a striker? do you think it's better to have a front 7 that always plays + a really cheap 8th player (who always plays for his team and has some chance of points), or are you more of a rotation fan.

That's why your captaincy choice is even more important. Also, not everyone will be able to fit all of those in their team so will have to do with perhaps only 2 of them. It's your job to pick the right ones and the right time.

Berba scoring lately is giving me a headache. Was full sure i was moving to 3-5-2.

They are fine when Duff is fit and available.

for me they haven't adequately replaced Danny Murphy.

Just not sure Berba is reliable enough to be the 2nd striker in a 3-5-2 over someone like Ba or Fletcher

Marveaux frees up funds even if only for a short period, if he plays well tomoz his price will rise further. I've hot him in with another gut feeling for sterling

        Noob question:
If I make loads of transfers today and then loads more before GW 22 deadline....
Then play my wildcard at 9am on the day of GW 22 deadline.
I wont incur any points hits, right?
        Cheers
        🙂

Mata is going to cost 9.9 after tonights rises. If he does something tomorrow, he'll rise more. Playing the WC is soo tempting.

Just so i'm clear...If i play the wilcard tonight to buy some players cheaper than they will be in the coming days (eg Skerte/Aguerol), or sell players that are going to fall, can i reopen the wilcard to buy somebody who will fall in price by the end of the gameweek period who i might want but for cheaper (eg Rooney)...could make a big difference to the money side that could...

For a £4.2m defender is Naughton or Davies (Swansea) the better option?
