When Reading clinched promotion to the Premier League last season, Ian Harte was immediately pencilled in by many Fantasy managers as a cut-price defensive option for the following campaign. With set-pieces and spot-kicks in his locker, the veteran’s four goals and eight assists from 32 appearances last time out were indicative of his potential for the Royals but Nicky Shorey’s return to the Madejski quickly scuppered the best-laid plans.

Despite starting the opening three Gameweeks of the season, Harte was shifted to the bench in favour of Shorey after back-to-back hammerings at the hands of Chelsea and Tottenham prompted Brian McDermott into a defensive re-think. As the season progressed, Shorey looked nailed-on and, handed a share of free-kicks and corners, afforded us the Reading budget option Harte was supposed to have been.

Come Gameweek 18, though, McDermott’s tinkering brought Harte back into the equation. Having shipped nine goals in their previous two home games, the Reading boss shifted from a 4-4-2 to a 4-4-1-1 and this time it was Shorey’s turn to slip out the picture – a narrow 1-0 loss at City was followed by back-to-back clean sheets at the Madejski as McDermott’s decision to tighten up paid off handsomely.

Back on set-pieces once again, Harte also supplied an assist against Spurs and has averaged four points per game since his return to first-team action – with his appeal also supplemented by a 3.8 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag, the left-back once again enters our thoughts ahead of a run of three crucial home games in the next four.

While the upcoming visit of Chelsea is likely to deter most, McDermott’s side then play host to Sunderland and Wigan in the following three in addition to a trip to Stoke. With three wins in their last four, including a couple of comeback triumphs against West Brom and Newcastle, Reading have suddenly found their form and shown a fighting spirit that has defied the many doubters who had already consigned them to next season’s Championship.

Now just a point from safety, these next few matches will be crucial to their hopes of survival and will be earmarked by McDermott as a definite source of points – the schedule is set to turn nasty around Gameweek 28, with trips to Everton, United and Arsenal highlighting the task at hand. Although Harte was omitted from Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United – with Shorey returning to the side once again – like fellow Royals budget option, Alex Pearce, it’s thought that this was simply a cup rotation tactic in light of two league games within the next week.

Fantasy managers can sit back and watch for the teamsheet against Chelsea: should Harte be re-installed in the starting line-up for Wednesday’s clash, he could be primed to finally vindicate that collective show of faith he initially received last summer and looks a definite cut-price prospect for our backlines over the short-term, at the very least.

Giroud could be a neat little differential over the next 4 GWs, as he's hit some form and seems to have fought his way back into the startin XI.

Just worked out that if Michu was classified as a striker this season, he'd have 20 less points and be just behind Lambert in the forward rankings on 110.

Don't know where i'm going with this.. but yeah, there you go.

Are you counting both the less points for goals as well as clean sheets?

There isn't enough to suggest he should be classified as a striker next year. For 80% of the games he has played behind a striker, so he should remain classified as midfielder. He will priced at 9.5m next year, though.

I think it's pretty certain that he will be changed to a striker next year. Looks to be on course for 20+ prem goals. Also i would say the figure is less than 60%. Yes, counting CS points too.

    Gerrard Michu Lampard Bale Johnson
    RVP Sturridge (Pog)

    But now it is:

    Mignolet (Bunn)
    Zabaleta Rafael Davies (Bertrand, Harte)

I think now that Theo signed AW will ignore his wish to play up front or just let him play there for 15 minutes per game. So yes, I think Giroud will play.
As for Azpi, common opinion seams to be that he will play and Cahil will be dropped.

Swansea and Fellaini have some of worst fixtures from now until the end of the season; there are few teams with a worse collection. With Michu having 8.0m selling value, and Fellaini having a 7.7m pricetag, i think there may be better options around.

Cleverley looks dangerous going forward these days, and had an assist last week. He sat during the cup, so is surely nailed for a start.

Nani was my other thought for a big differential this week. I can see Uniteds mid containing Carrick, Cleverley and Nani this week.

I hate it I really do, but I want a bigger piece of them. To just have RVP from the top team in the league, and as of right now, have absolutely no City players, is a) stupid and b) blasphemic to me.

Rafael or DDG might be safer than a United mid though.

this is a good feeling, Krohn-delhi may be the biggest FF buzz I've ever had. But for me, it's the felling of having player that no one in ML has who explodes that week. Theo v Newcastle was a prime example. I was starting to lose hope of getting to the top of my ML, then that happened and propelled me back into it.

Do you think the Aguero + Fellaini combo will be more potent? I'm worried about Fellaini playing deep and Cisse majorly picking up form with Newcastle as a whole climbing the table. Also think Silva will grab a few goals from here on out.

I'd rather out my money on Aguero + Fellaini instead of Cisse + Silva. Fellaini won't necessarily play deep. I think he should be back on his own position now.

So did Torres get 90 minutes in the cup match? And if so, is the general feeling that Ba will get the 90 v Reading this week?

yed and no, torres will come on around 80. I would love to see Rafa get the sack and prove to us all once and for all that Roman Abramovich and Chelsea are a complete and utter joke 🙂

I'd say it needs a little more in defense but apart from that looks good. Anyway to get somebody like Zab for say O'Brien?

I can see your short of cash.
In which case I would forget about Ba and concentrate on nailed on starters.
Downgrade him and upgrade that defence
