With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole” for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

Fellaini and Lambert out for Maloney and Rooney (for GW 30) ?

    it would involve a -4 hit 🙁

Already have RVP so would be doubling up. DGW mega-points in mind.

Imo, it was borderline, and Arbeola made it out to be much worse than it was. In a huge game like that, you can't give a straight red, as the player was unaware of the defender. Yellow for me.

Since most Utd fans have now gone to bed, i will admit it was only a yellow, he was going for the ball. You can see why the ref gave it, and he doesn't get all these slow mo shots. Saying that SAF response and Rio's after the game is not acceptable. People just get use to sh*t like that from him though.

If Nani gets a Red for that then the RM keeper has to go when he mistimed his clearence and punched Vid in the face. Can someone explain to me logically why one is a foul(Red) and the other just gets over looked so often?

Every decision the referee makes in these circumstances is based on intention. On first seeing this tackle, I don't believe Nani deliberately intended to hurt the player. In fact he is unaware of his presence. I think the referee should have applied a degree of leniency, common sense even and given Nani the benefit of the doubt. Oh...and I'm a Leeds fan btw.

I'm quite calm now and I have had time to think about the rape we all just saw. That ref was a total moron and he should be banned from football for life. Just plain retarded. I mean if he was gonna send Nani off for what was an attempt at controlling the ball then WHY, WHY was the RM keeper not even given a CARD when he mistimed a clearence and punched Vid in the face and almost KOed him??? Why are keepers given the freedom to Smash players in the face and never get punished???????

nah I saw the game live and remembered his 2 fisted punch to Vids head and no one said anything. Like it was fine to punch players in the head as long as he was going for the ball. If thats the case then why was Nani sent off? I wish the made refs answer questions post match and explain some of the BS they do. Obv that'll never happen cause then they wouldn't be able to FIX so many results

    Roy Keane's View

Funny to hear people saying it was deserved red card. Are these genuine opinions, or just deep rooted anti-united feeling speaking?

I was watching the game with a Notts Forest fan and a Canadian football fan with no preference for any team. They were both aghast at the refs decision and felt it was just about a yellow. In the context of the game too (not particularly dirty or bad blooded, Arbeloa didn't really over do it too much or call for a sending off) it seems an especially bizarre decision.

Speaking as a Utd fan, I'm undoubtedly biased. But every neutral I've spoken to agrees with me. On here though many are saying that it was a clear red.

    C'mon you are taking the pi$$ aren't you? 😕

Very good point on the punch. I'd forgotten about that.

Mourinhos reaction is perhaps the most telling. I don't think I've ever seen a coach leave the field of play early in reaction to a refereeing mistake in his teams favour.

Your favorite club outside Crotia is United? And here we were thinking you were an Inter fan. No wait, you're a Bayern fan.

No, wait, Suarez fan. So Liverpool fan? I'm confused. You're a fan of MULTIPLE CLUBS.

I have attended loads of my local team's matches unlike a lot of Indians
who don't bother abt their local club but will go all guns up over the club
          they support outside their country.

A goal bound effort was blocked on the line by the arm of United full back Rafael.

and Ramos fouled Evra in the box and nothing got given. The truth is the referee had several big calls to make last night and he got all of them wrong

plenty of times it has been quoted that decisions even out over a season

so those who say that when it goes in favour of your team should stick to that
      when it goes against

the ref had a shocker and it pertained to both teams

Then I went to bed and made love to my woman.
