With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole†for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

Ok. I think I'm going to take the armband off Ronaldo. I reckon Yilmaz and Messi should both be able to at least match him on day 3, with Kroos and Isco as back-up on day 4 if needed.

So who should I give a chance to tonight:

    Vidal or Feghouli?

    Team for gw29:

    bunn (ddg)
    harte cueller davies
    michu bale
    sturridge

non players: wally fellaini maloney rvp giroud baines onouha....have 2FT and 2.3m...not if and when to get suarez...this week and have two lpool strikers or in gw30 at a higher cost

    A: giroud + maloney/fellaini + onouha/baines >> benteke + sissoko + debuchy
    B: giroud + maloney/fellaini + onouha/baines >> suarez + sissoko + debuchy
    C: giroud + sturridge + maloney >> suarez + benteke + sissoko

Currently leaning on option A with a view to get suarez in gw30 at a higher cost though. Problem with C is that it doesn't make sense to get rid of a playing player this week (i.e. sturridge)

    thoughts?

            studge > rvp: approx 6.4
            suarez > rooney: approx 1.2
            suarez > rvp: approx 1.1

Ok, it's obviously a sincerely held belief and I'm not looking to wind you up, I would ask why the referee disallowed Higuain's goal in the first half though. That was an extremely marginal decision and I don't think there would have been nearly as much uproar had that been allowed.

Still have RVP and wont sell now that they are out of CL. Next game (GW30) is Reading at home.

What should I do with the below. Have 2 FT and 0.1 in the bank.

    Reina - MIgnolet
    ZABALETA - EVANS - Davies - Wilkinson - Pearce
    MATA - Bale - WALCOTT - Snodgrass - Michu
    RVP - Sturridge - Lambert

I was thinking of getting rid of Evans and Mata. For United defensive cover, I can do Mig/Reina to DDG. Sturridge is obviously the big question mark...

I am a strong believer in less is more in terms of FPL and this week in partcular:

    1. This week will be a low scoring round by virtue of number of games played,

    2. Should a player explode (I.e. LukAku/ Benteke) it won't hurt non owners that much as the total points scored in the GW will be low.

    3. People will be taking hits to field 9+ players for sub standard FPL players who will maybe get a net gain of say 2/3 points.

    4. People will take hits to transfer out these players they got in for this GW.

    5. No real player scares me this GW by not owning them (maybe Bale/Suarez aside),but for the others I don't feel scared of say not owning say Cisse, Michu.

Anyone got another take on this?
    Cheers.

    GW31 vs Newcastle (Weekend)
    GW32 vs Man Utd (Monday)
GW33 vs West Brom (Monday) or possible FA Cup (Weekend)

City vs Wigan .. looks possible only in GW29/GW31 midweek .. any date after GW33 may not be accepted by Man City as they will have 2 BPL games pending and 12+ points to catch Man Utd..

i also think it'll be in GW31 midweek, like 3/8/13 (Wed)..who are they to say "hey, we wouldn't want it to be in midweek before the derby".. but like TW said, pure speculation/guesswork here.

yeah.. pure speculation.. if they don't want to play before derby.. it leaves them with 7 BPL games & FA cup semis (possibly) to play in 5 weeks.. tiring!

GW31 will be earmarked for FA Cup replays. Not that I think ManC will need one, but this will mean that we won't hear until after the weekend.

thoughts on a rvp/rooney suarez studge frontline?

or should one of the pool strikers become one of lambert/benteke/lukaku/tevez?

my front 3 atm is suarez studge and cisse. not sure which one out of cisse/studge to ditch next week for RVP.

i think the idea of having both Liv strikers is not bad generally, however the trick is when to let go one of them (Studge probably) for any DGW players like g-ru or kun.

I still can't understand why Nani started over Rooney in the bloody first place - for god sake he hardly kicked a ball all season and Saf decided to put neno in in initeds biggest game of the year - Nani has been a liability for some time now and this proved the case again last night - don't give me tactics it's clear to me that Saf still holds a grudge since Rooney handed in his notice ,

I actually thought Nani played quite well, carried the ball forwards looking to take on defenders and assisted Evra in keeping Di Maria quiet for when he was on.

I'm not saying that Nani didn't play well but I'm baffled by some of fergies decisions at times and I was frustrated to hear Rooney benched last night for Nani - if you were looking for form surely that was Kagawa and I also feel that saf hasn't been getting as much out of Rvp as Wenger did . I am a Utd supporter.

I can field 11, but i think a couple are none starters...

    Mignolet
    R Martin Clyne Enrique Wilson
    Puncheon Michu Sissoko(vc)
    Sturridge Fletcher Lambert (c)

    Bench: Jaask, Luiz, Mata, Walcott.

All set? I have done my free transfer for Noble > Sissoko (earlyi know but im going away until sunday tonight!)

SAF choice was understandable. SAF made the choice to leave the ball to real. So they need very quick player in the wing (sorry for my english i'm french...)

It's hard explaining football to people like Forca who can't play it, don't really watch it, and don't understand football strategy....

Let Jose Mourinho help you understand it:

Does anyone remember Higuain's harshly disallowed goal that would have put Madrid a goal up? That seems to have been completely overlooked.
