United extend the gap over City to 15 points but Reading limit the league leaders to a solitary Wayne Rooney strike at Old Trafford. Rotation at the back and another blank from Robin Van Persie leaves most Fantasy managers frustrated, though:

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
An avalanche of goals was expected this evening but it was down to the former Everton man to prove the difference. Rooney took his tally to five in the last six and with a couple of assists also thrown in over that period, he’s proving key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at a time where many other attacking options are failing to flourish.

David De Gea
While Sir Alex Ferguson made changes aplenty in the back-four, the Spaniard was handed a fourteenth successive start as United made it five clean sheets on the spin. Drafted in by almost 30,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers last week, De Gea’s consistency of game time looks set to keep the bandwagon rolling over the international break.

Going Down

Robin Van Persie
Saturday’s results were bad enough from a Fantasy perspective before this evening’s match at Old Trafford. Van Persie was heavily backed to deliver but his poor form continued with another blank stretching his run to a single goal in six – runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll and most captained in the FPL game, his failure could prove significant in many a mini league if the likes of Gareth Bale or Juan Mata can produce tomorrow.

Ian Harte
The left-back dropped to the bench for this evening’s visit to Old Trafford, ending a run of 12 consecutive starts for the Royals. While it’s likely that Reading will have a new manager in place by the time they travel to Arsenal in a fortnight’s time, his omission will be a concern, with Nicky Shorey looking back in the mix again.

Adam Le Fondre
Again, it’s perhaps misleading to look too much into Reading’s line-up, with Eamonn Dolan surely set to step aside for a full-time boss before the end of the international break. Despite scoring twice the number of goals than any Royals team mate this season, Le Fondre was afforded just 20 minutes off the bench at Old Trafford as Noel Hunt led the line. With Pavel Pogrebnyak now set to return from a three-game suspension, his chances of securing a regular role look further diminished.

United Back-Four Rotation
Ferguson’s decision to freshen up his back-four proved hugely frustrating to Fantasy managers. Only one player – Nemanja Vidic – kept his place from the side that line up against Norwich in the previous Gameweek; all the more annoying given the Red Devils delivered yet another clean sheet. It remains to be seen just how much more tinkering is on the cards but when the likes of Patrice Evra is rested to the bench for just the second time this term, it’s clear Ferguson has no qualms in utilising his squad options at the back.

The Bap Chap Bonus Predictions

Re-produced with kind permission from the man himself…

Villa 3 QPR 2 – Weimann 3, Agbonlahor 2, Jenas 1 (in the mix Benteke, Lowton)
Southampton 3 Liverpool 1 – Lambert 3, Rodriguez 2, Schneiderlin 1
Stoke 0 West Brom 0 – Odemwingie 3, N’Zonzi 2, Ridgewell 1 (in the mix Shawcross)
Swansea 0 Arsenal 2 – Monreal 3, Gervinho 2, Jenkinson 1 (in the mix Cazorla)
Everton 2 Man City 0 – Osman 3, Fellaini 2, Mucha 1 (in the mix Baines, Coleman)
Man United 1 Reading 0 – Rooney 3, Ferdinand 2, Giggs 1 (in the mix Smalling)

Dbl GWs often disappoint don't you think? All that planning and shifting in multiple players, it usually only works out for the minority - whom I have very rarely been among. Need to remind myself that Ars are playing an Everton team who are strong. We might be dependent on Wally/Cazorla to put in a big score against Nor.

Given which info? The stats were equally with Rooney and the value of Rooney was there for all to see, not to mention his differential value. The form was also with Rooney.

Nah... look at the goal... very lucky.

Look at RVP's stats over the season. yes, he's gone through a dip but history would suggest he'd get out of it.

He will need some back up from his team though.

I knew you could never resist bringing it up since you were banging on about Rooney all week.

Do you feel totally vindicated though? From where I was looking neither Rooney nor RVP justified a pick this week, so it just came down to luck.

Well I personally believed I was talking some sense with the Rooney vs RVP debate. They are so equal when they play together. But Rooney had the form and was cheaper so it felt right to buy him. 13.7 is a lot to pay for a guy who is off form and not really the stand out captain pick anymore week in week out.

Exactly. To sit and try to say 'I told you so' is embarrassing given Rooney's performance and the manner of the goal. Neither striker had any service today.

But that's not the point. He was still equally as threatening as RVP for less money, so he just continued doing what he's been doing all season. I think Man Utd just held on for that 1-0 in the end because they're knackered. Rooney still did the business, they would have attacked more if it wasn't for his goal.

It probably IS the point because had Rvp scored from the deflection instead of Rooney, you wouldn't be making any of the points you currently are as Rvp would've out scored Rooney and there'd be none of this gloating

So Rooney (c) saved my ass today. On another note, which transfer looks best

Within the next month or so, I can see United coverage being a pain. If we beat Chelsea, once the league is won Fergie will prioritise the cup, therefore many of our big guns could start to miss league games

    Hernandez FTW

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

That said, on today's performance, I can't see Evra or Rafa being dropped again.

hmm Jenks at 4 looks tempting, but look at Monreal's PPG. The only problem is, there are no DGW mids for 5.8 who are worth owning

yes, but so far he looks to be a great pick. But I'm not sure Zaba or Rafael are worth shipping for him, If i sell Pearce it forces me to take a West Ham mid or Carrick over and Everton mid.

Lame GW so far for me. I hope GSP beating the life out of Nick Diaz makes up for it.

I have 2 FT's. Should I just do one each week so I still have both remaining for GW33?

Also is it best to use FT's to bring in Arsenal/Everton players or look for strong SGW players?

Arsenal with decent enough fixtures before 33 to start picking now. Good for single and the double itself.

A friend of mine sent it to me a while ago. I'd not heard of this artist previously, but thought it would be something you'd find interesting.

None of Carrick, Cleverley and Anderson are worthwhile FPL players and Ramsey is a turd.

Noble 🙂 I am considering him for a second, 4pts quaranteed. Could get a surprise pen or an assist from a set piece or a corner.

Looks like my members cup tie is coming down to

    Me :- Mata and Bale + 6pts

Opponent :- Bunn, Sissoko and Sessegnon

Could be tight though Bunn and Sessegnon will hopefully cancel each other out
