As the season unwinds over the final two months, the goalkeeper position for many Premier League outfits continues to prove volatile. With injuries and poor form blighting most top-flight sides between the sticks, few stoppers have afforded a consistency of game time quite like Jussi Jaaskelainen. The West Ham number one is one of just four goalkeepers – along with Simon Mignolet, Asmir Begovic and Joe Hart – to start every game for his club so far and as the only member of that quartet with a double Gameweek on his hands, the Fin makes his way onto Fantasy radars.

As a result of his guaranteed game time, it’s no surprise to learn Jaaskelainen is the second most popular stopper in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, with an ownership of 18% bettered only by Begovic’s 24%. There’s no doubt the Hammers’ start played a part in quickly acquiring new suitors; three clean sheets in the opening four Gameweeks highlighted his cut-price potential, with Villa, Fulham and Norwich all repelled in rapid succession. By the time Gameweek 11 was done and dusted, Jaaskelainen had also helped nullify the threat of City and Newcastle – five clean sheets by early November saw an initial FPL price of 4.5 climb to 5.0.

The next few months were tough on Allardyce’s side, though. A brutal schedule resulted in a loss of form which saw defensive returns hard to come by – the next 14 Gameweeks harvested just a single clean sheet (away to West Brom) and, having peaked at 5.3, Jaaskelainen began to shed owners. Nevertheless, a recent defensive revival has resulted in a couple of clean sheets in the last five (SWA, sto) and with doubts over the likes of Kevin Nolan, Mark Noble and Joe Cole, it seems that Allardyce is prepared to keep things tight and simply grind out results to clinch his side’s survival.

From here on in, Jaaskelainen has an enticing run of home games which is sure to earn him further investment. Factoring in his double Gameweek 33, the remaining Upton Park schedule reads (WBA, sot & MUN, WIG, NEW, RDG), leaving just three fixtures as problematic – Gameweeks 32, 35 and 37, where the Hammers travel to Liverpool, City and Everton respectively. For those already holding Begovic, this works perfectly – Stoke entertain Villa, Norwich and Tottenham over those matches. Although Norwich, Reading, QPR and Newcastle also look rotation alternatives for the Hammers stopper, all but QPR currently have question marks over their number one spot.

With 109 points accrued thus far, Jaaskelainen sits fifth in the FPL keeper standings and first in the West Ham pecking order with 10 matches remaining. Granted, he may be pricier than his defensive team mates but the Fin’s saves consistently boost his appeal – a total of 118 edges Mignolet into second and sums up his importance to the Hammers’ cause. With George McCartney returning to fitness, question marks now hang over the full-back berths and with Allardyce subbing off James Collins for James Tomkins with 30 minutes remaining of the last league game against Chelsea, only Winston Reid seems to vie with Jaaskelainen for security of starts. Sitting 23 points behind his keeper, though, the Kiwi makes a far less persuasive case by comparison.

Argh walcott's giving me a headache. If I keep him I need to remove puncheon (to Maloney) but that would leave me no arsenal coverage. If I also get Cazorla in I will have a benching headache.

Theo's injury is such a headache...

    ddg (bunn)
    baines clark cueller (davies harte)
    michu bale maloney theo (sissoko)
    rvp sturridge benteke

have 2FT and 3.3m...here is what i am thinking:
    gw31: harte + theo >> mertesacker + cazorla
    gw32: save FT
    gw33: michu + benteke >> fellaini + berb

will leave me with 2 Ars, 2 Eve and 1 Ful for the dgw. already have 2 for manu coverage if they have a dgw. If chel end up having a dgw, will do sturridge >> ba (-4).

    Problems with this plan:
    - I wanted 3 ars dgw players and the theo >> santi FT seems a sideways move
    - cant afford chel mid if they have a dgw
    - mertesacker might get rotated so wanted to wait on ars def till gw33

Let me know if anyone has better ideas...go!

Why no Giroud love round these parts

main striker , with Reading , west brom and Dgw , 3 out 4 at home , only 7.5m

    team is

    Bego (fed)

    Rafael , Enrique , Davies (Saylor,Pearce)

Mata , bale , theo , carzola (Sissoko)

    Suarez , Sturridge , benteke

This week am doing benteke - Giroud (c)

He remains rather goal shy, just with potentially worse service.

On the positive side Arsenal will play with more width. (without Walcott)

This may improve possession and chances created.

If Giroud is more nailed on for a striker playing for an elite team that scores highly at home and has a double home DGW. Incredible value for money.

Personally if I was Wenger, I'd try Gervinho or Podolski as striker sooner rather than later.

Surely if he's back for the double, then we'll get news of it in the presser before the double. Having him benched for 2 GW's isn't advisable imo, with lots of rotation happening elsewhere!

People can just buy him back then, not to mention he's going to keep falling in price.

Get him back than? that is -4 for most people considering the amount of transfers going on. And personally I have a decent bench for next week, so really not fussed if he would only miss 2 weeks.

To wait for the presser I mean, that there might be more specific info. Geoff is good but not always 100% correct, the timetable could be inflated.

Yeah. I don't get it. Totally unnecessary. Nobody is calling themselves the oracle, you're just passing on someone else's tweet. All a bit odd.

Most common phenomenon in a casino...

            You win
            You lose
            You win
            You win
            You win
            Big risk getting carried away
            Lose everything

IF Theo is ruled out for DGW, who do people plan to replace him with?

One option could be go budget bench option and get Giroud

One could punt on the Ox, or triple on Chelsea mid (Mata, Lamps AND Hazard), or get a United mid

      DAMN YOU THEO

Thoughts please on how to raise funds for Walcott to Carzola. I am thinking either.

      a) Snoddy to Maloney

      or

      b) Sturridge to Berba.

      What do you think? Cheers

        a) could work, but given Snoddy is an away performer who plays Wigan away, I'd say hold one more week

        b) Could work if you have Suarez

Yep I have Suarez. Still not ideal as Liverpool are at Villa park. I just don't want to go into the Reading game without an Arsenal player.

Leaning towards getting Berbs in, to be honest.

Not sure I see it as that clear cut to be honest. Maloney is really only one notch above a bench player. Berba is Berba.

is Hal Robson Kanu worth a punt?

i feel that he is in great form and should have a cemented place under Adkins – he would be a great differential to and only at 4.2 is very appealing.

I know I should go with Townsend but from a Reading fan and the extra money would be nice…..

can some1 convince me im not mad???
