Our Friday night regular makes a return after the recent inconvenience brought on by internationals. This time round, our headliner is a Premier League veteran who continues to rack up the goals, while we also call upon a couple of cut-price forward alternatives who have proven superb value for money over the last few matches.

Frank Lampard

It says a lot about the displays of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard this season that Frank Lampard’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership remains under 6%. The Chelsea midfielder has already notched 12 times this term – a tally he has beaten just once in the last seven campaigns – and has offered a consistency of game time under Rafa Benitez that has earned him starts in 12 of the last 13 league fixtures.

Over that run of games, Lampard has scored nine times – bearing in mind that Mata has 10 strikes to his name all season and Hazard eight, the former West Ham man’s eye for goal has clearly remained crucial to the Blues’ fortunes; all the more critical when Demba Ba and Fernando Torres struggle to produce up top.

As Benitez looks to juggle his squad ahead of a run of four games in the next nine days, Lampard’s regular appearances in the league suggests he’s likely to get the nod at Southampton tomorrow, with a rest against United in Monday’s cup clash on the cards. With spot-kicks boosting his appeal in addition to a share of set-pieces and corners, Lampard will be confident of picking up the points at St Mary’s tomorrow against a Saints side with a single clean sheet in seven under Mauricio Pochettino. Priced at 8.5 in FPL and 8.4 in the Sky Sports game, his ability to produce has even proved immune to the rotational whims of the Blues’ interm-manager.

Jay Rodriguez

With Rickie Lambert sitting third in the FPL standings, investment in any other Southampton forward has been understandably scarce. Big things were expected from the former Burnley man when Nigel Adkins broke the club’s transfer record to bring him to St Mary’s last summer but it’s somewhat ironic that it’s taken Adkins’ departure to bring out the best in Rodriguez.

Two goals and a pair of assists in the first 22 Gameweeks were indicative of his toils, with the big-money signing struggling to nail down a first-team berth but the subsequent arrival of Mauricio Pochettino has brought Rodriguez firmly onto Fantasy radars. Handed a bench role for the Argentine’s first match in charge, he has since ousted Jason Puncheon on the right and, having started six of the following seven matches, has produced attacking returns on five of those occasions.

In stark comparison to his previous displays, Rodriguez has racked up two goals and five assists over those seven fixtures, with returns against the likes of United, City and Liverpool highlighting his potential under the new man in charge. Priced at just 5.1 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, he looks an intriguing in-form prospect ahead of a home match against Chelsea as Pochettino plots a crucial win that would help his side pull further away from the drop zone.

Andreas Weimann

Similar to Rodriguez, Weimann has also struggled in the shadow of a more prolific team mate. With Christian Benteke leaving backlines battered and bruised across the Premier League, the young Austrian has been bypassed by Fantasy managers but as Villa start to rack up the wins, Weimann is proving almost as pivotal in his side’s survival bid.

Having started each of the last six, game time looks assured and has clearly boosted his self-belief over the last few matches – attacking returns in three of the last four sums up Weimann’s new-found consistency. A goal against Arsenal and assist against Reading was followed up a goal and assist in the vital victory over QPR last time out, with Weimann also collecting the maximum bonus points as the midlanders moved seven points clear of their opponents.

Coming in at just 5.0 in FPL and 6.7 in the Sky Sports game, Weimann’s flourishing form could be set to continue against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon and, having found the net in the 3-1 win at Anfield earlier this season, the Austrian will be looking to put the Merseysiders to the sword once again.

so basically Giroud is getting way more chances/attempts but not delivering the goods...so maybe Giroud is due some positive regression and Berb is due some negative regression due to lack of chances?

Don't like the dismissive nature of some posters on here, not naming names...but stop telling people their moves are shite just because you don't agree with them.

Seen some people get told off for taking punts on players with good fixtures this week, wait and see, wait and see, then make your judgement...but not before.

There is a bit of a group mentality on here at times, and it's nobody's fault, just everyone's opinion forms together to make one single correct answer to a specific problem, when in fact there are many different options and strategies to take, that might be a lot better.

Fighting against the criticism and keeping faith in your judgement is a must if you use this site.

for sure, I just don't like when it becomes a bit like disdainful...like when someone says a punt on a striker is a 'rubbish move' or something. Well what if he scores a hat-trick?? Obviously the punt is taken in the hope it's a calculated gamble. There should be open mindedness about it, even if it's a move you wouldn't do yourself. 🙂

It's fine, I'm an idiot for taking Walcott out this week, so I'm told, but it's part of my plan, so I'm not too bothered.

I think the satisfaction comes when your punt does well and all of a sudden, everyone is talking him up.

          4/5

I enjoyed it, I'm terrible for remember how much I enjoyed movies at the time though. For me I found it fascinating as I absolutely adore Joy division and new order. I found it compelling and gripping at times and I like many others am a little obsessed with Ian Curtis. So the fact that it delved into his emotional background intrigued me. It was chilling at times knowing where the story was leading and the tragic nature of his short life. It felt also that it removed the illusion a little by showing how mundane his life was and how the strangely wonderful music they were making was a million miles away from their own reality. Felt like an escape from it. In conclusion, I highly recommend it if you are a joy division fan and enthralled by Ian Curtis as a person/enigma.

God, I sound like a right pompous critic here... 😆

Good review! I've heard good things, but was concerned that it could get a bit too arty and try to be a bit too cool. So I like that it tells the real tale and kinda doesn't try and sugarcoat anything. I'll watch it this weekend for sure, as it's been on my to watch list for far too long. I always forget how good Joy Division were too, so it'll inspire me to dig my old CDs out as well.

RVP because if he plays--and i am thinking he will--he has a good chance to get points. If he starts he should get 60 mins at least right? Time enough to score/assist... vs sunderland

Okay so do we think RVP is likely to see any minutes? Squad is bad shape this week, putting the armband on Suarez and hoping he scores 5 goals.

      Not a bad idea.

I am struggling with my team a bit this week. Suarez is one of my few players not giving me concern.

    Noob question.

Please help lads (and don't laugh):

How does the CHE-MUN match affect the DGW 33?
Whoever qualifies misses their dgw33? Do MCI miss gw33 anyway?

Who ever loses will miss their weekend fixture, so the team they play at the weekend(Stoke or Spuds) will have a blank. Citeh have 1 GW33 fixture in midweek(WIG)

Hey...got a tip for a horse in the Grand National from a somewhat reliable source (from someone who supposedly knows a stable employee). I've been told that if Soll actually gets into the race, he'll absolutely canter clear from two out and demolish the lot.

So I keep moving to get rid of KAGAWA after dumb kneejerk last GW. Plan is to do him and Sess out for -4 to Cazorla....

    But something keeps stopping me.

Is it just irrational and should I ignore it?

Since Fellaini is suspended, and managers are shipping him out (-ve sign), do you think Osman will be a good replacement for dgw impact?

I have strong doubt about it now dont know why. Not playin for 2 weeks and come back just in time for DGW makes me edgy that thats require a lot of merit to be in the 11. Worst if he plays only 1 of the 2. Plus the transfer story going on of late im bit jitter.
