Our Friday night regular makes a return after the recent inconvenience brought on by internationals. This time round, our headliner is a Premier League veteran who continues to rack up the goals, while we also call upon a couple of cut-price forward alternatives who have proven superb value for money over the last few matches.

Frank Lampard

It says a lot about the displays of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard this season that Frank Lampard’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership remains under 6%. The Chelsea midfielder has already notched 12 times this term – a tally he has beaten just once in the last seven campaigns – and has offered a consistency of game time under Rafa Benitez that has earned him starts in 12 of the last 13 league fixtures.

Over that run of games, Lampard has scored nine times – bearing in mind that Mata has 10 strikes to his name all season and Hazard eight, the former West Ham man’s eye for goal has clearly remained crucial to the Blues’ fortunes; all the more critical when Demba Ba and Fernando Torres struggle to produce up top.

As Benitez looks to juggle his squad ahead of a run of four games in the next nine days, Lampard’s regular appearances in the league suggests he’s likely to get the nod at Southampton tomorrow, with a rest against United in Monday’s cup clash on the cards. With spot-kicks boosting his appeal in addition to a share of set-pieces and corners, Lampard will be confident of picking up the points at St Mary’s tomorrow against a Saints side with a single clean sheet in seven under Mauricio Pochettino. Priced at 8.5 in FPL and 8.4 in the Sky Sports game, his ability to produce has even proved immune to the rotational whims of the Blues’ interm-manager.

Jay Rodriguez

With Rickie Lambert sitting third in the FPL standings, investment in any other Southampton forward has been understandably scarce. Big things were expected from the former Burnley man when Nigel Adkins broke the club’s transfer record to bring him to St Mary’s last summer but it’s somewhat ironic that it’s taken Adkins’ departure to bring out the best in Rodriguez.

Two goals and a pair of assists in the first 22 Gameweeks were indicative of his toils, with the big-money signing struggling to nail down a first-team berth but the subsequent arrival of Mauricio Pochettino has brought Rodriguez firmly onto Fantasy radars. Handed a bench role for the Argentine’s first match in charge, he has since ousted Jason Puncheon on the right and, having started six of the following seven matches, has produced attacking returns on five of those occasions.

In stark comparison to his previous displays, Rodriguez has racked up two goals and five assists over those seven fixtures, with returns against the likes of United, City and Liverpool highlighting his potential under the new man in charge. Priced at just 5.1 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, he looks an intriguing in-form prospect ahead of a home match against Chelsea as Pochettino plots a crucial win that would help his side pull further away from the drop zone.

Andreas Weimann

Similar to Rodriguez, Weimann has also struggled in the shadow of a more prolific team mate. With Christian Benteke leaving backlines battered and bruised across the Premier League, the young Austrian has been bypassed by Fantasy managers but as Villa start to rack up the wins, Weimann is proving almost as pivotal in his side’s survival bid.

Having started each of the last six, game time looks assured and has clearly boosted his self-belief over the last few matches – attacking returns in three of the last four sums up Weimann’s new-found consistency. A goal against Arsenal and assist against Reading was followed up a goal and assist in the vital victory over QPR last time out, with Weimann also collecting the maximum bonus points as the midlanders moved seven points clear of their opponents.

Coming in at just 5.0 in FPL and 6.7 in the Sky Sports game, Weimann’s flourishing form could be set to continue against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon and, having found the net in the 3-1 win at Anfield earlier this season, the Austrian will be looking to put the Merseysiders to the sword once again.

    Suarez or Bale captain?

    It's on Suarez right now.

I had a discussion with my bro and he says Bale because Villa have everything to play for and Swansea have nothing really to motivate them.

My argument back was that Villa have a far worse defence...

Agreed. Suarez is a master and if Ciaran Clark's recent performances are anything to go by, Suarez will have a field day.

I do agree that it's in Wales and Bale might well score, but Swansea are a possession side and haven't been poor after winning the LC, just a little under par and not so clinical.

      I'd go Suarez.

Playing against a weaker team defence/team. Yes they have everything to play for but they have still been conceding goals. 2 goals conceded last time out at home vs. QPR for example.

      Swansea don't concede many.

        Great point.

Bale has played 45 mins in Scotland a week ago, and tomorrow will be his second game at the Liberty this week.

Meanwhile Suarez played twice in South America over the last week.

Completely confirmed my captaincy choice, Bale FTW.

Many managers have suggested it takes a minimum of 3 days to recover fully. They will be able to play but it wont be at full power. I think we could have another bore fest vs Sunderland 1-0 for united with a lot of energy saving going on.

Not worth taking a hit to replace a 5th midfielder when you have players coming in who will start.

Only a small chance a 5th midfielder scores points for you, risk outweighs reward for me.

RVP (c) Crazy talk? If you think he will play, then gotta be a good choice for armband right?

Suarez or Bale otherwise... strangely reluctant in both cases... Villa and Swansea could both put up good fights...

RVP is always a good choice for the armband...

unless you think his season is over.

the man does like to score goals though, eh?

And Ferguson saying about him scoring 3 goals for Holland - maybe he thinks hes back on a run and needs to be on the pitch to keep doing it?

Personally I can't decide bewteen the three you mentioned, and Santi C.... I can see all of them doing well this week.

      Depends how differential.

If you know your rival plans to captain Suarez, captaining Bale is a good shout, on the other hand, if you are just guessing and are considering putting the armband on a total punt, then no.

Here's why Bale is the best captain pick for me this week.

Bale played 45 mins in Scotland a week ago, and tomorrow will be his second game at the Liberty this week.

Meanwhile Suarez played twice in South America over the last week.

Furthermore, Lennon is back from injury, so there will be a lot more space created for Lennon to utilise. It's no coincidence Bale hasn't scored in the two games he's missed. Normal service to be resumed tomorrow.

I know a Welsh welcome mat will be given to Bale and he will be welcomed on it with passion.

Haha sorry, I did reply to you above but was very far up the page so thought it wouldn't get seen.

Wasn't trying to steal any ideas just putting together all the reasons I think Bale is a slightly better choice. 🙂

Good good, just checking, can never be to sure on the internet where you have no idea of context 🙂

Ye, Santi is a good punt this week, could easily return a huge score, could easily return 2, slightly more risk, but perhaps more reward.

    I knee-jerked big time!!!
I just used my WC, could not wait for GW33...

here's what I have chosen so far (SUGGESTIONS WELCOME)

    Ddg-Boruc
    Azpi-J.Enrique-Baines-Merts-Demel
    Caz-Bale-Mata-Lampard-Townsend
    Berba-Suarez-Benteke

    ANY GOOD IDEAS?

Get a couple more DGW players.

Benteke -> Giroud for example. Enrique to Reither perhaps?

The idea was to keep J.Enrique for gw32 (WHU home), then downgrade him to reither or someone so I can fit Roon or rvp up front for DGW...

How about DDG -> Someone cheaper? (who?)

I'd keep DDG, especially if United have the double, he's the best option around.

Think I'd prefer Reither for QPR, new, than Enrique with avl, WHAM. Fulham got good defensive form and Reither has been great going forward recently.

      Strong squad.

I think I personally would have just gone Giroud instead of Berbatov in terms of fixtures. Note sure why people think he's nailed on to score past QPR, they've been much better at the back lately, Arsenal have the better DGW fixtures imo.

EXACTLY my thought. But Giroud means (having also Caz-Merts) that i'll have reached the 3player ARS limit, hence no walcott for dgw...

I don't want to sway your judgement too much (it's all opinion after all) but Walcott had gone off the boil before his knock, hence me moving him out this week. You'd have more to gain with Giroud in for the next 4 fixtures than Walcott in for just the DGW.
