With most of the press conferences taking place yesterday, only a handful of managers faced the media today. Sir Alex Ferguson rolled out a handy injury update, though, with news that Nani, Paul Scholes and Phil Jones have all returned to training – just in time to boost his squad options ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Sunderland and Monday’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea:

Indeed, Ferguson made a point of praising Van Persie’s performances over the past fortnight. The Dutchman had failed to notch in his last seven in all competition for United but returned to scoring ways for his country, much to the delight of his manager:

“[Van Persie scoring] was the most pleasing thing about the break for me actually. He got the three goals for Holland. It’s the same with all strikers. When they hit that little dry spell, they’re hoping to get out of it as quickly as they can. Hopefully, those goals for Holland will help him to do that. His form has not changed, that’s the most important thing, but the goals will certainly help and there’s no question about that.”

The newspapers are starting to roll out their predicted line-ups for the weekend and the Chelsea FA Cup game is clearly having an effect. According to the Guardian, for example, Van Persie won’t be in United’s starting XI for the Sunderland match. They also have omitted Wayne Rooney and went with a front three of Nani, Javier Hernandez and Antonio Valencia – that’s despite Ferguson specifically mentioning late flights back for the latter two in the press conference.

Elsewhere, David Moyes has revealed he could be set to welcome back a couple of key defensive options as Everton prepare for a physical battle with Stoke at Goodison. Phil Jagielka and Tim Howard are both progressing from respective ankle and back injuries and may feature in tomorrow evening’s home encounter; potentially damaging news for Jonny Heitinga and Jan Mucha’s first-team chances.

On the other side of Merseyside, Brendan Rodgers has also been briefing the media. The Liverpool boss welcomes back Jamie Carragher, who missed the previous clash with Southampton due to a shin problem – Rodgers spoke of the defender’s imminent retirement and certainly, given the comments below, it’s fair to say there’s every chance Carragher will be ousting Martin Skrtel at Villa on Sunday as the Reds looks to avenge the 3-1 Gameweek 17 defeat at the hands of Paul Lambert’s side:

“You see his experience and how he leads the line, and when you’re playing as a defender you need someone who is vocal in there who can organise the line. He does that remarkably well. He’s got eight games left and let’s not write him off yet. He’s still fit and strong. We missed his leadership qualities at Southampton and he’ll come back into the squad for the weekend.”

Liverpool have just posted images from the training ground to feed those who support the “bib theory”. They show Jonjo Shelvey sharing the same yellow bib colour as Luis Suarez, Glen Johnson, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Dan Agger: both Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho are in white, however. Make of that what you will.

Over at the Emirates, Arsenal have released pictures from this morning’s training session. There’s more “bib theory” fun to be had here. Gervinho and Nacho Monreal were both pictured in the same side as Santi Cazorla – while Monreal’s inclusion in the first XI would be no surprise, given Kieran Gibbs’ illness, the Ivorian’s potential inclusion would perhaps raise eyebrows, particularly as he has failed to start a league match since Gameweek 18. Intriguingly, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also appeared to line up with Cazorla, though Lukas Podolski was on the opposite side – granted, it may just be coincidental, but it’s given us something to mull over ahead of tomorrow’s match with Reading, as Arsene Wenger looks to replace the injured Theo Walcott.

Finally, an article published on the West Ham website earlier today suggest Kevin Nolan “could also be back in contention with his broken toe recovering sufficiently for him to return to training”. While Sam Allardyce failed to mention his skipper’s potential comeback during yesterday’s press conference, Nolan’s availability would be a huge boost for the Hammers’ home clash with West Brom tomorrow – with a double Gameweek 33 on the horizon, his popularity could be set for an upturn should be manage to recover for the Baggies clash.

I think we've sufficiently shuffled the FPL deck here. Teams and templates are more varied now than ever this season and will continue to be it seems.

So many Captain shouts this week. I think it has to be Suarez as Villa has shown us absolutely nothing in terms of defense. But Cazorla, Mata, Bale, RVP, Berbs...all very good shouts as well.

Going to be a fun ride.

    Evening guys.

Been away for a while so I'm pretty out of the loop. Got 2ft's. Would you do
    a) theo+Michu --> santi + maloney
    b) Sissoko + Michu--> santi + maloney

Oh wait... So basically would you keep Theo or Sissoko?

I kept Sissoko. Walcott is likely to be out next week as well, so you'll have time to bring him in for DGW and final run. Get points now.

Personally, I'd hold on to Michu, just this week and save your FT for the coming GWs and DGW. Regardless of form, I'd still think Michu has as good, if not better, a chance to give you higher return than Maloney this week.

      Ship Michu after this GW.

Not if you save a FT this week. If Theo were out only this week, then I could live with it. But 2 weeks, falling price. Nothing wrong with getting a 2 week punt on Caz for points.

Hmm... Just can't save. I want Caz. Defo. But i don't have the funds for a straight swap.

I fear I'm loosing the plot at the end here...

William hill's goal scoring odds for Man Utd strikers:

    van P 11/4
    Hernandez 7/2
    Rooney 4/1
    Webeck 5/1
    Kagawa 6/1

haha, tough one. So you'd be keeping Walcott? I think Caz is essential the next 2 weeks. Walcott will be out and Arse will be gunning.

Keep Begs for now as Stoke don't have the worst schedule right now. United has City next week and I think we're going to see de Gea rested/rotated.

Don't take a hit and do:
Theo to Caz and Lambert to Berbs

I will know whether he would have known the line up by 11:30 which, after all, was his question.

Has anyone else started thinking about what to do with their team and find that they have lost a bit of enthusiasm for it after the long break? Maybe its just the fact that I haven't a clue what to do with my team though!

Anyone else in the same boat?

The opposite. Can't wait to make amends to my miserable past weeks in FPL.
Must pick up in form now.

Actually I think its just more the fact i'm clueless as to what to do with my team 🙂

        Toying with Michu & Walcott -> Maloney & Cazorla (c) for a 4 pointer..

Have expended three transfers and a -8 hit to get Santi, Mert and Kone in place for Harte, Sturridge and Mata. But I like taking hits. And his break has been so long.
Next year! That will be different! No hits next year 😉

There's no doubt that the break has been a big downer. Personally, I'm determined to push up and try to break the 2000 before the season ends. I think the DGW's will revive a lot of folk too.

I find it so much harder to keep a high rank as the season draws to an end comparing to how easy it was for me to start the last two seasons well and soon get into the top 5k or so.
Between Xmas and GW 38 last season I relentlessly slipped down the ranks from 1500s to 20,000+ and there was no stopping me going down. This year it seems like I'm repeating the pattern.
So I think now is really when it takes a skillful manager to keep or advance your rank.
Just hope the DGWs will let me reverse that fate climb back up the ranks...

This is just what's happened to me. Also very out of it. And my rank now doesn't allow this. (He sais feeling disappointed in himself)

Are big hits ever worth it ?
    Szczesny/Bunn
    Zabaleta/Agger/Sagna (Shaw/Wilkinson)
    Bale/Coutinho/Sissoko/Marveaux (Walcott)
    Rooney/Suarez/Kone
    Thinking about -
    Jaaskelainen >> Szczesny
    Baines >> Wilkinson
    Cazorla >> Walcott
    Giroud >> Suarez
    Thoughts ?

Is Snodgrass available for Scotland in the WCQ game vs Croatia in June?

He was sent off with 2 yellows, so thats 1 game match ban that was done vs Serbia?

I'm probably gonna go to the match just to see all the FPL players they have: Martin, Snod, Maloney, McArthur, Adam, Dorrans, Caldwell, Morisson...

TBH i don't really get how they can be that bad 🙁

No Gunners coverage for this week or the forthcoming double...I'd probably sort that and with 3.1 you could do anything.
