Gareth Bale has handed Tottenham and his legion of Fantasy managers a major scare this evening having sustained an ankle injury in their Europa League tie. The Welshman turned his ankle late on in the 2-2 draw with FC Basel which resulted in him being stretchered from the field.
Right now, we have no confirmation on the severity of the injury with Andre Villas-Boas offering this vague prognosis post-match:
“He rolled on his ankle, at the moment there is a lot of pain, but hopefully not as bad as it could have been.”
Early reports also suggest that the Spurs boss confirmed that the injury will be assessed fully in the next 24-hours with sources stating that he expects the player “to miss no more than two matches”.
Bale looks set to sit out the encounter with Everton this weekend and, with a blank fixture looming in Gameweek 33, suddenly his Fantasy owners will be surely be considering selling on a player who, in the last two months, has looked simply unstoppable.
Bale has scored eight goals in his last eight league starts, leading to a huge level of investment in the Fantasy Premier League game which has seen his price rise from 9.8 to 10.9. Now, with the possibility of an absence for the next two Gameweeks and beyond, we could see a dramatic shift in that trend as Bale is sacrificed to make way for assets set to enjoy two fixtures in Gameweek 33.
We now wait on further updates from White Hart Lane.
