A goalless draw at Anfield last Sunday will afford West Ham a degree of confidence heading into their upcoming pair of fixtures. After a dire winter period, Sam Allardyce has steadied the ship and with seven points taken from the last four league matches, has all but secured top-flight survival ahead of back-to-back clashes with Southampton and United:

The Prospects

There’s no denying the Hammers face a tough time over the double. In the first few months of the season, a trip to Southampton would have held considerable appeal but the Saints have picked up in performance and since the installation of Mauricio Pochettino as manager, have already beaten City, Liverpool and Chelsea at St Mary’s. Southampton have scored at least twice in three of their last four at home, though with clean sheets in two of their last three road trips, West Ham will be hopeful of further defensive returns. Going forward, though, Allardyce’s side have been abysmal on their travels – a mere away nine goals scored all season, with blanks in eight of their 16 fixtures, they have scored more than once on a single occasion. Given that Southampton have conceded just twice in their last four Gameweeks, the visitors have a tricky task on their hands.

Allardyce’s side then entertain United at Upton Park the following Wednesday. While the Hammers have struggled to find the net on the road, they’ll be buoyed by the fact they have scored in all but one of their 15 home fixtures thus far and have tasted defeat just four times in front of their own supporters. With six clean sheets in seven, though, United will offer a stubborn resistance and will be hoping to improve a record which has seen them score just once in each of their last three – bearing in mind the Hammers have just one home clean sheet since Gameweek 10, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have reason for optimism, then.

The Likely Lads

Up to third in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper standings, Jussi Jaaskelainen’s save points have been crucial to his season. The 5.1 priced Fin has supplemented his nine clean sheets with 130 saves – more than any other keeper – and is subsequently the Hammers’ top scoring FPL player thus far, 14 points ahead of Kevin Nolan.

Two goals and three assist highlight the attacking potential ofJoey O’Brien. The full-back has also chipped in with 10 bonus points and, while he’s more expensive than Guy Demel (4.6 to 4.0) offers the best prospect of points at both ends of the pitch.

The exploits that harvested five goals in the first 11 Gameweeks have long since evaporated but Kevin Nolan cannot be dismissed from our thinking. Having returned from a recent foot problem, his presence will be crucial to the Hammers’ midfield and with Mark Noble missing out again due to a shoulder problem, his offensive threat is needed more than ever as Allardyce looks to hit the magic 40 point mark.

Ineligible for last weekend’s trip to parent club Liverpool, Andy Carroll will be hoping to continue a series of crucial home performances which have racked up the returns in recent games. The 8.2 priced on-loan forward has scored in each of his last three at Upton Park; over those matches, he has notched four of his side’s six goals and has also earned six bonus points. Carroll will also be on spot-kicks in Noble’s absence, as shown by the Gameweek 27 home game against Spurs.

Cheeky Punt

Looking at his recent Fantasy returns, Matt Jarvis has hardly made the most persuasive case for our double Gameweek consideration. Although he’s failed to produce since Gameweek 16, the former Wolves man has, nevertheless, provided a potent source of creativity of late which his team mates have yet to take advantage of – his stats in the members section for the last four attest to that. Fielded on the left of the front three, his delivery from the flank has definite potential and priced at 5.5 with a 0.3% ownership, he’s a differential punt worth mulling over.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Was planning to take a hit and now my rival has taken one, I am tempted to do another. What would you do? 0.8 in the bank.

    Jussi (Rudd)
    Zabs Evra Rafael (Davies, Demel)
    Wally Santi Hazard Fellaini (Sissoko)
    RVP Berba Benteke

mainly I was tempted to try and get some Liv coverage as he has Suarez and Coutinho. Alternatively swapping in Giroud for Benteke but Benteke has been my standout performer recently. I don't want to leave the team too mangled for the coming weeks either I suppose. Cheers everyone!

To all the people that believe Rafael will be 'rested' or 'rotated' to deal with Stoke's physicality, do you have an explanation as to why he wasn't 'rested' or 'rotated' in other games against physical teams this season?

J Evans bound to play both, and is a huge threat from set peices. Rafael flatters to decieve and is living off a wonder goals versus Pool and QPR. Against West Ham and Stoke I expect United to score a few from set peices and J Evans is always there or there abouts.

how is J Evans bound to play both when he's just back from injury as well? Rafael might not be as big a goal threat but he spends far more time going forward than J Evans and as a result is more likely to chip in with some points. He seems to have quite a good understanding with RVP from the games I've seen.

If it's about risk, Evans is the riskier pick, I think.

Rafael did not look sharp enough against city and has just come back from injury. And 2 starts against 2 of the most physical sides in the league away from home in a space of 3 days looks unlikely to me.

What's the consensus on hits for DDG, Juusi, Koscielney or Sagna?

I'm thinking of doing Szczesney >DDG/Juusi and Harte (I have Wilson but he's a doubt and Martin away to Arsenal) > Sagna, both for a hit.

yeah hit that button on ddg n sagna, you only need one CS to pay each back, and chances are keeper saves and extra game will pay most of it back.

I'm trying to work it out and if you have a playing keeper, I wouldn't take a hit I don't think. Bego should be on for 1-3 points, meaning DDG needs a clean sheet just for you to break even.

Reposting for more ideas. (Thanks Trigg, MJ, Dogba and Lawro for your reply previously)

PICK YOUR BEST COMBO. (With slight consideration of GW36 DGW)

          A)
          Evra-Zabaleta-Clyne
          Walcott

          B)
          Evra-Clichy-Rangel
          Walcott

          C)
          Rafael-Zabaleta-Rangel
          Walcott

          D)
          Evra-Zabaleta-Rangel
          Gervinho

(Walcott/Gervinho are for GW33 only. Evra/Rafael for longer term)
Baines is in all options ABCD.

          DE GEA Robles
          Zabaleta Samba Davies Wilkinson Pearce
          CAZORLA WALCOTT FELLAINI Hazard Snodgrass
          RVP Suarez Lambert

          0.0 in bank

I already did Sissoko to Fellaini with FT. What should I do next? Samba to Sagna looks the obvious choice but I'm tempted to get Koscelny instead...

So the example given to back up claims about Rafael not starting both games is that he was taken off after 30 mins against Reading when they were struggling to cope with their physicality.

While it's true to say they were struggling to cope with their physicality from corners, it's false to suggest that Rafael was taken off because he was lacking physicality.

In fact, it was the opposite, he was getting so stuck in that he looked like he was going to get sent off. So when Fergie saw he was on a yellow and knowing the lad was young and inexperienced, he took him off to prevent a red card and ensure Man utd kept a foothold in a game they looked like messing up in.

The other way you can look at that is that it highlights how valuable Fergie sees Rafael, that he couldn't face him getting a red card and missing some games.

              rotation with who though?

              As I've pointed out

He has 3 CBs available right now...and one natural RB...why would he play all 3 CBs and drop the RB?

Rafael, in contrast to a few others, has 90 mins under his belt against City and is very much back. The same cannot be said for Evans (who may not be ready for two games) perhaps nor can it be said about Vidic or Smalling.

He likes to play Jones/Smalling at RB for no good reason from time to time. This is the reason why I think it may happen since the games are just 3 days apart. If ur convinced on ur theory you should go ahead n buy him.

Hello boys and tom boys. Im thinking, maybe I step back a bit and try to really jump up the league. How about, Suarez as captain away to reading? Risky and a bit strange, I'm at about 8,500 and want to sneak under the radar with an inspiring captain choice. What would you guys choose if money no object? Or is everyone just going for Santi?
