The FA have this afternoon announced Luis Suarez will be banned for 10 games following Sunday’s biting incident with Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield. Suarez had accepted a violent misconduct charge yesterday but had argued against this being extended beyond the standard three matches – an Independent Regulatory Commission met earlier today and has subsequently added a further seven games onto the standard suspension.

The FA have confirmed Suarez has until midday this coming Friday to appeal the additional seven matches, though, while in a statement on the club’s official website, managing director Ian Ayre would only say:

“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision. We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”

Unless he successfully appeals, then, this means Suarez will play no further part in the current domestic campaign and brings a bitter end to a season that has seen him flourish under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The Uruguayan is second only to Robin Van Persie for goals scored, with 23 strikes to the United forward’s 24 – the Golden Boot now looks safe for Van Persie, with Gareth Bale (18) his nearest challenger now.

While the Dutchman’s game time over the remainder of the season is perhaps in question by some – given that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have the title sewn up – Suarez’s absence for the first six games of next season merely heightens Van Persie’s importance to our Fantasy squads when 2013/14 gets underway. For Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge will now be afforded the chance to lead the line over the final four fixtures this term and the first six games next time round – the Reds’ remaining matches hands them trips to Newcastle and Fulham, in addition to home showdowns with Everton and QPR.

Indeed, the clash with Harry Redknapp’s side makes Sturridge a viable captaincy contender and at just 6.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) right now, is a more than budget-friendly alternative for those Fantasy managers shopping around for a Suarez replacement. With a double Gameweek 36 for six other sides, though, plenty will be looking elsewhere as our three man frontlines are quickly restructured for the final sprint over the last few matches.

Haha yes, plenty of hypocrites regarding Suarez. I think they're scared they will be thought of as amoral and branded a racist or a cannibal apologist if they transfer him in. It's FPL, just because he is in your team doesn't mean that you are showing him your solidarity. It's points at the end of the day, I'd rather leech his points haul if he's going to perform well and improve my rank!

I think ignoring a player for moral principles in a game where points total is the name of main objective, is moronic. It's like people are trying to prove to other people they don't know and haven't met on an Internet forum that they have some sort of moral compass, and in doing so, they're shooting themselves in the foot in a game that ultimately means nothing.

    @ Daisy BFCF

Just to set things clear I have no problems with Suarez the racist(as I think it may be because of his upbringing and low intelligence, a la some southern people from the USA and even in my country- who dont mean any harm by racist comments) and the fighter who gets bad fouls(just showes that he takes it seriously).

I really hate the diver in him much more and think there should be bigger bans for what he has done in these cases, and thus feel no sympathy when he gets the hammer otherwise.

I also think that 10 games is totally fine as last time he got 7 for biting so it had to be more than that.

thats fair enough, i find the racism issues a problem. the fouling, biting, diving, swearing etc a bit of a null point, its really not the end of the world. Fellaini probably has a worse wrap sheet fouls wise this season but doesnt get the headlines. Bale and even Phil Neville have been booked for diving this season... and i know im in the minority but i think its a mountain over a molehill regarding the bite. im not a liverpool fan, (im a bristol city fan, my avatar is scott murray not luis suarez like people have thoguht before) but i have a problem with the 'i hate suarez' brigade. its all good fun tho here seeing everyones opinions!

I dont think he is a racist though, like we here in my country use the n word a lot, especially older people. But very few of us actually have a problem with people just because of their colour. It is just the vocabulary people have been raised with.

Bale for me. I think he is just out of his world. I would not like to see Suarez win it due to my basketball ties as there it is very very unprecedented if someone from a team with not even a chance at the title would get a player to win MVP. I think it should be top 4-5 teams.

I think Michy would be in there as well if wins would not matter.

Please pick one of these combinations:

    a) Mert - Walker - Sess - Hazard

    b) Dawson - Zabaleta - Hazard - Arteta

    c) Sagna - Kompany - Silva - Dembele

    d) Kompany - Dawson - Hazard - Fellaini

    My views:
After this week it becomes vital to have arsenal players because of they have something to play for.

I have a 5th spot in my midfield currently held by Fellaini that is causing me problems. I don't know whether to keep or sell him as there are many in his price bracket out performing him.

10 games? Complete joke. What's the difference between biting someone on the arm and head butting someone in the face? If you did either outside a pub you would get the same punishment. How many games was Fellaini banned for..3..4?
Way over the top. Suarez has been punished heavily because of who he is. It should have been 6 games maximum.

How many headbutts we see in games? about 5 a la Fellaini, not Zidane? How many bites do you see? It is just what the game accepts, I would ban every dive with a full season out as I think it would be correct, but that just wont happen because of what the game is like.

Yeah but this ban is for a violent incident. His previous ban was for something different..racist remarks. It shouldn't be cumulative. He hasn't been violent other than that incident in Holland. All/ most of his YCs are for being moany/ petulant on the pitch.....that shouldn't count against him when dweciding this ban.

Who's the Liverpool executive? Brian Barwick isn't with the FA anymore, and if he didn't mention a Liverpool executive that makes him a "noob'' which is in my opinion a derogatory, disrespectful label to give a man laboured with the pressures that Benitez is? Name calling isn't the answer.

It will be interesting now to see what happens at Liverpool over the summer. They have Carroll and Sturridge (their only strikers) Will they keep Carroll now to cover for Suarez for a while? Or will they sign another striker for loads of money? If that happens I think it might complicate things.

If they intend on keeping Suarez then surely he will remain their main striker. But him missing 6 games means they cannot really gamble and have a poor start again. So do they dip into the transfer market and sign a striker close to Suarez's quality? And if they do, will that make things complicated when Suarez returns?

I agree but is Sturridge not the striker they are slowly developing to play alongside Suarez?

What I'm getting at is...if they signed someone who plays the Suarez role, what do they do with Sturridge? And when Suarez gets back, does that not disrupt their game?

i think they have to set up as if theyre without him full stop. therefore bring in another striker a la Higuain, Falcoa, Lewandoski (i know they probbaly wouldnt go there but anyway) and then when Suarez is back he can play off them. thats if they are serious about challenging for fourth

I agree that any striker of that stature would improve their chances tenfold. But what I'm trying to address is won't it complicate things if they sign someone similar to Suarez? If Suarez was available they'd be buying better players to play around him and keep him as the focal point. But now with the ban you get the impression they might have to act quick to make sure their season isn't a failure 6 games in.

So they might have to splash out on someone who could be a new 'focal point' of the attack. Whilst that is a great move in theory, won't it affect how Suarez plays if he is no longer the focal point?

the need a goal scorer. a last man style player. van nistleroy mould. Higuain or Lewandowski, Villa, Chicarito, a player of that style, different to Suarez and able to play together

I don't get this post at all. Liverpool want to return to the top 4. Are you saying they should try to do this with only two strikers on the books? Is it a problem having Tevez, Aguero and Dzeko at City or Rooney, RvP, Hernandez and Wellbeck at Utd? Why 1 rule for Liverpool?

I know I'm not making complete sense here but what I'm trying to say is that Suarez works so well as the focal point of the attack. If they buy someone to fill the 'Suarez' role for a while, what do they do when he comes back? I know obviously having better players can never be a bad thing but it can disrupt the balance of the team if you have players that are too similar. You can't really replace Suarez.

I still don't follow. They wouldn't buy someone just to fill 6 games. It's only 6 games. Suarez is on a long term contract, as would anyone they sign. They will just look for players that take them towards whatever squad Rodgers is after. These 6 games will have no impact on this.

What Man.City players are you fielding for DGW36?

I currently have Clichy, and I'm considering the following this week:
    1) RVP -> Tevez
    2) Begovic -> Hart (-4)

Not so sure on that last one, but pretty sure RVP is leaving.

I was going to go with Nastasic as my City defender. I feel like he is pretty close to Kompany and Zabaleta in terms of surety of starts. Is Richards a genuine factor (not to bring in but to be concerned about coming in on rotation)? Clichy's start seems very shaky to me, is that not the case?

What would a good manager do? I've got Lewandowski on my bench. Do I bring him in for either Ozil, Di Maria, Ramos or Varane or do I keep him exactly where he is? The latter this may sound silly to most but I reckon Madrid will go through reasonably comfortably (Dortmond isn't in Munich you know).

      If it helps..

42% - Robert Lewandowski has been directly involved in 42% of Dortmund’s goals in the CL this season (six goals, two assists). Danger.
