Christian Benteke inspires a superb display of attacking football from Villa that blows away a bewildered Black Cats, dragging them into the relegation scrap as Stephane Sessegnon sees red. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s events.

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A stunning hat-trick from the hugely impressive Belgian forever scribed his name in Villa folklore and left his faithful Fantasy owners beaming. Benteke has arguably been the signing of the season, registering 18 goals that have almost single-handedly kept Villa afloat. His consistency in a struggling side is quite extraordinary: Benteke has now struck 13 goals in his last 15 league starts, returning incredible value having started the season priced at just 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Matt Lowton
While Benteke will, quite rightly, take the plaudits, Lowton’s recent performances from right-back deserve recognition. Tonight’s assist was his third in six league matches, a spell which also brought that stunning strike in the 3-1 win at Stoke. Villa’s survival this season will assure Lowton of a place on our pre-season watchlist for next term.

Gabby Agbonlahor
Whilst, inevitably playing second fiddle to the mighty Benteke, Agbonlahor has produced some stunning recent form that have boosted Villa and directly translated into hefty Fantasy profit. Tonight’s goal and brace of assists ensured that Agbonlahor has returned attacking points in five of his last six starts, with four goals and three assists in that spell.

Going Down

Stephane Sessegnon
A straight red for violent conduct brought the Benin international’s recent run of form to an abrupt end and was perhaps the biggest blow to Sunderland on a miserable evening. The spark in Sunderland’s recent revival under Paolo Di Canio, unless there is a successful appeal, Sessegnon will miss the remainder of the season. His Fantasy owners will now be pushed to get rid to swap for double Gamweek assets, while Di Canio will have to hope that he has the attacking resources to compensate for the loss.

Simon Mignolet
Di Canio’s rearguard simply had no answer to the pace and industry of Villa’s flanking forwards, whilst they buckled under the presence of Benteke. Having kept back-to-back clean sheets, tonight’s damaging defeat is ill-timed. Sunderland could yet be lured into the relegation scrap, although with home fixtures against Stoke and Southampton to come, Mignolet and his defence have the opportunity to rediscover their resolve.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    I have this team with a 4 point hit and 1.1m in the bank.

    Foster
    Zab Sagna Enrique
    Mata Michu Maloney Bale
    Tevez Kone RVP

    Should I take another hit for Enrique to Vertonghen?

            Have considered it. Most teams around me have rvp though so if lots sell him he's a differential and no-one does then I have a considerable risk. Sure I'd have shipped him otherwise....

                  and again if rvp starts this one also it is very probable that he's not gonna start the rest two!!!

      if u take a 12 point hit(if u have 1 FT) your team could become great for the dgw:

      1) de gea -> hart
      2) caz -> mata/hazard

    how do these transfers sound

    Fabianski -> Harte
    Gerrard -> Michu
    for -4

    leaving me with:

    Harte
    Davies, Baines, Demel (Harte, Wilson)
    Fellaini, Mata, Michu, Bale, Walcott
    Lukaku, Tevez, (Berbatov)

    Reason i went with Michu is due to me sitting at the top of money league and covering rivals.

    for TorresMagic, here's a list of belgians: fellaini, lukaku, mirallas, hazard, benteke, kompany, vert, verm, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Balotelli’s girlfriend. Special thanks to Snake for the last two 😆

    Missed out on the April prize in the Sky game thanks to choosing Sess instead of Benteke last night. That would have left me 5 points shy in the end, so either Benteke not being subbed off and scoring another goal, Fellaini not missing that sitter or Ivanovic not being benched would have been the final straw.

    The red card let me down gently I think 🙂

    If Special One returns to Stamford Bridge in the summer, I can see him immediately recalling Lukaku and building the team around him. Just like he did with Drogba.

    How much do you think Lukaku will be start of next season?

    GW1 front lines will be a mixture of Lukaku - Benteke - Lambert - RVP - Suarez (if still at Liverpool)

          It's easy to play well when you're playing for a small club with low expectations. It's a whole different matter playing for a big club.

          There's a reason why Sturridge flopped at big clubs like City and Chelsea but played well for mid table clubs like Bolton and Pool.

        I don't think it's that far fetched, their current strikers are hardly in blistering form. They could of course sign someone like Falcao though.

    Just looking at the table and it seems Wigan really have to win the next two to stand a good chance of survival. Swansea and WBA are arguably two of the best teams to face at this stage of the season and their defence will be depleted.

    After that game they play Arsenal, meaning they could already be relegated come GW38.

    It's really all or nothing for Wigan in GW36. An added incentive to get their attackers. But why am I so reluctant to sell Fellaini for Maloney and double him up with Kone?

      Agreed Tinkamon.......I reckon the Cup might play second fiddle, which is a massive shame, because they could give City a decent game.

      A second string Wigan against a first team City will get hammered. I'm keeping clear of Wigan now.....too many games in too short a time, with too many injuires....could be 1 & 2 all over the place 😯

      They should certainly beat West Brom at home and given some luck they can beat Swansea. Game on after that. The Cup Final is a massive distraction mind you.

    Help please everyone, so I have 22 points to catch up on the guy winning the league at the moment so thinking of drastic tactics for this GW.

    -8 points
    Le Fondre -> Kone
    Remy -> Lukaku
    RVP -> Aguero

    or

    Remy – > Lukaku
    RVP – > Tevez
    Davies – Silva

    Opinions?

    With Arsenal playing qpr, wigan and newcastle in their last 3 games, it's hard to do Cazorla to Mata, particularly as Caz is nailed on and Mata isn't. I'm really not sure about that transfer.
