Snapped up from Olympiakos towards the end of last year’s summer transfer window, Kevin Mirallas arrived at Everton on the back of an eye-catching campaign. With his final season in Greece harvesting 20 goals from 25 league games, the Belgian looked a canny acquisition by David Moyes but a role on the Toffees right flank, combined with an ongoing hamstring complaint, limited his Fantasy potential.

His classification as a forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game hardly helped either. While Marouane Fellaini benefitted from his advanced central berth behind a lone forward, Mirallas suffered as a reverse out of position performer – despite being stuck on the wing in Moyes’ preferred 4-4-1-1 system, he chipped in with six goals, five assists and 13 bonus points from 24 starts. With Moyes taking up the reins at Manchester United, however, the installation of Roberto Martinez to the Goodison hotseat may be set to promote Mirallas as a significant Fantasy performer for the season ahead.

Key Factors

  • Martinez’s penchant for a 3-4-3 formation seems tailor-made for Mirallas. With the former Wigan boss expected to field Seamus Coleman on the right of the midfield four, the Belgian looks likely to be shifted further forward, affording him greater license to thrive as an attacking prospect. While such a system would diminish Fellaini’s potential, with a move to central midfield on the cards, Mirallas should rise in the Fantasy pecking order under Martinez’s guidance.

  • Last season’s spot on the flank should now benefit Mirallas. A midfield classification across the Fantasy games may apply, affording us a real out of position prospect with a keen eye for goal. Price-wise, his debut campaign suggests a drop from last term’s initial 7.5 price tag could be on offer – Fellaini and Steven Pienaar both started the previous campaign at 6.5 and, given that Mirallas ultimately returned a total of 96 points, such a cost would be a fair reflection of his contribution last time out.

  • The hamstring issue which hampered his game time now finally seem to be behind him. Mirallas limped out of the Gameweek 11 clash with Sunderland after less than half an hour and lasted just 45 minutes of the Gameweek 16 home match with Tottenham before succumbing to the same problem. Moyes courted caution with the problem, easing him back into the Toffees first-team, but a fully-fit Mirallas started each of his side’s last 11 league games and proved an increasingly instrumental figure for the Merseysiders.

  • Further analysis of Mirallas’ form highlights a definite upturn in performance over those final few months of the season. Devoid of injury and finally accustomed to the rigours of the Premier League, he produced five goals, an assist and 13 bonus points over those final 11 fixtures, compared to a single goal and four assists across his first 16 appearances. Even if – as some suspect – Martinez begins with last season’s formation until the players get to grips with his tactics, Mirallas’ potential still looks to be strong.

  • The opening fixture list has been relatively kind to Martinez’s troops. Three of their first four home games hold plenty appeal (WBA, NEW, HUL) and with trips to Norwich and Cardiff also on their agenda, Everton face just two of last season’s top eight in the first eight Gameweeks, with a home game against Chelsea and visit to City in Gameweeks 4 and 7 respectively.

The USMNT squad for the Gold Cup will be announced on 25th June, that is before the start of the next game week. So, keep your transfers in store until you have the squad.

Is there any chance of a RMT section to stop the droves infecting regular good posts ?

Also a page linked to ALL the various FF formats out there - with league codes to leagues set up from managers .... surely winners from this site in Yahoo/Fox etc would be great publicity too and create even more banter and seasonal topics .

I remember last season on the Friday before GW1 around 30 of us replied to some lurkers RMT, he still re-posted a few pages later.

HC gives you the option of tailoring the comment section how you want it. We will not sticky rmts unless there is something special about them. We will however continue to sticky and hot topic other discussions, pre season news etc. If you are not keen on lots of rmts then just sort by sticky above.

Also any spam rmts will be removed. We do however very much encourage rmts as this site is all about sharing advice. Options there for you to avoid if you want though.

Not sure sorting by stickies really works for me as a means of bypassing RMTs. If you want to keep up with the latest conversations as and when new posts come in, sorting by date is your only option. Most of the time these conversations won't be worthy of a sticky or hot topic, which means the RMTs are pretty much forced on you.

Most other forums on t'internet encourage (or even require) posts to be posted into a section relevant to their content, so I'm not sure why FFS takes such an aversion to this approach.

To my mind it would solve so many issues if you allowed the more considered, in-depth posts to be grouped in one article and the more run of the mill/stream of consciousness stuff to be posted in another. People could dip in and out of each article as they saw fit.

This site is brilliant because of its dynamics. Can you imagine how dull an entire thread on RMT's would be? And conversly how out of control this section would be without the RMT's? Its the balance of of the cuff nonsense mixed with well thought out posts that makes this site so great.

As I said, there's nothing to stop you from dipping from one article to another. I don't see how having relevant content in a relevant place would detract from the overall experience.

So, Michu, Benteke & RVP's opening few fixtures don't look great. Given that these 3 players can score against anyone, would you still consider them when picking your squads in GW 1?

This is a classic case of whether or not you tend to go with playing the fixtures or thinking these players will inevitably be in your long term plans.

15 million buys you either Andy Carroll or Mignolet + Luis Alberto

Who will score more points?; AC or M+A

    1. From FPL points perspective (dont care if the club win or lose, fantasy points more important)
    2. From EPL club points perspective (contributions to WHM, LFC)

Taking into account luis game time of course

Don't see how, even without RVP, you'll be able to afford another big hitter in midfield.

Can anyone find an explanation of this??(or tell me that I am talking @&*#)

After at least three minutes of research I have decided that different nations often produce similar players:-BRAZIL: fast, good dribblers, creative attacking midfielders.Through the generations: zico, kaka,Oscar
-NETHERLANDS: direct wingers, tricky, serious turn of pace. TtG: crujff, robben
-PORTUGAL: talented wide men who dominate an era. TtG: eusebio, figo, Ronaldo.
-GERMANY: strong defender/midfielders who form the backbone of a side. TtG: beckenbauer, Matthaus, schweinsteiger

You are being a little selective. Brazil for example in recent years has produced some great defensive Mids. There are plenty of example of attacking German players full of flair as well... Ozil for example. There really isn't too much value in such stereotyping.

However, he is right that these nations do have a propensity for producing a supurflous number of these players.

The easiest way to understand it in my opinion is to look at switzerland. Not a great football nation, but their wingers are amongst the best. The reason is simple, every youth team and lower league team is forced to play 4-4-2 with two wide players to receive additional funding from their football body. This means that unlike our wingers, their wide players flourish and learn how to cross properly.

It is an oversimplification, but still...

There could be several reasons: youth training, style of domestic leagues, climate, even who your footballing idols are growing up.

Some people have money issues at the beginning of the season and aren't willing to pay £25m for the two best players in the league.

Because for £25m, you can get 3 Chelsea DGWers, and the little boy inside and his simian friend are not guaranteed to get you anything above 2 points each.

Problem being you're relying on both to get good returns each week, as you'll no doubt captain one.

Also, many teams will only plump for one, resulting in a more balanced squad, which may be the way to go next season, and your rank will plummet as a result.

I'm starting with Bale and maybe switching to RVP at GW5 point.... maybe 😉
