Our pre-season projections and Rate My Team tool are almost ready to go live in the Members Area. Over the past week we’ve seen a number of significant signings, notably at the Etihad, that have delayed our first set of numbers but, with the market seemingly settled for 24-hours, we’re now very close to going live with both, albeit with perhaps a big Gareth Bale caveat on the way.

Once again this season, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by β€œProfessor” Chris Atkinson, who some of you may have got to know via last season’s ScoutCast.

The Rate My Team model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attack and defence rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

In the next day or so we will be publishing full projections for every Premier League player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. These will include short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule over those crucial budget purchases.

In addition to the Projections, the full Rate My Team tool will also be going live shortly.

This can be used in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. It includes a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also be used to build a team from scratch, analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers.

The β€œProfessor” and I will be creating some new movies explaining how the Projections and Rate My Team work in the next few days. Look out for them over the weekend and into next week.

A reminder that memberships for the coming season, giving you access to both the projections and Rate My Team tool, along with many other features, are available for the pre-season price of Β£12.50. Click here for further details, including an array of preview movies to demonstrate what’s on offer.

I'm a Liverpool fan so I'll just comment on some of our FPL prospects - for what it's worth.

    Defence:

Mignolet - Nailed on. Shot stopper and will get a bundle of clean sheets. Think he's our best option defensively.

Toure - If he manages to get playing time under Rodgers, he'd be a bargain. However I don't see this happening, confident we will sign another CB. Worth to keep on your watch list though.

    Midfield:

Sterling - In my team already. He will be used as an impact sub over the course of the season but will start the majority of the first few games so that the new boys can settle in. 5.5m = steal.

Coutinho - A bit pricey some may say but he will rake up assists and goals. Pretty adamant he will be in the top 5 midfielders for FPL this season.

    Strikers:

Sturridge - 9m for what I think is a 20 goal a season striker. Also in my team, and I expect him to get a lot of points until Luis comes back anyway.

    Stay away from:

Gerrard - 9m for Stevie is a bit fair considering he will play defensive midfield. Won't see him pushing up as much especially with Coutinho being our main force in the midfield now. Not a fpl prospect imo.

Aspas - May start the season up front but he will mainly playing on the right, from what I've seen and heard. Not really a great goal scorer/provider.

    Downing - Useless.

    Hope this helped. πŸ˜€

We will only sell to Real Madrid, for the right price. Don't believe these Arsenal rumours.

Looks like Bernard/Eriksen may be a possibility for us. If either come in cheaper than Coutinho, then they could be great FPL options. Both can get goals and provide assists.

I think he's well over-rated. Easy do well in Dutch League where he's not been so outstanding. In Danish team in WC '10 and Euro '12, a team with no big hitters you'd expect him to stand out. He didn't.

I am a liverpool supporter too and I think there is some chance of Toure starting. We have been bidding for young centre backs in the off season but the latest noises coming from BR of a back up LB and one more attacker doesn't include a CB which may suggest he is happy this season with what he has got.

Also based on his decisions at the end of last season to play Carragher over Skrtel I think there is quite a good chance that our regular CB line up will be Agger and Toure. Which makes Toure a pretty good deal at the price.

    RMT please.

    Boruc - 4.0
    Toure - Mertesacker - Nastasic - Chester - Parr
    Snodgrass - Walcott - Bale - Hazard - 4.5
    Aguero - J Rodiguez - Giroud/Lukaku/Kone

    GW2 - Hazard -> Silva
    GW3 - None
GW4 - Aguero -> RVP & Walcott downgraded to someone performing well.

I think this is a well rounded team. Boruc will do well in goal until GW12.
Only worries are Toure & Nastasic fairly sure they'll be first team but if their not this is ruined.
Not sure between Giroud/Lukaku/Kone simply down to Lukaku's game time, and the everton 3-4-3.
Any advice on areas to improve or which player to go with upfront?

I'm prob going stick with C, all depends on Suarez as I reckon Bale will actually go, A would be a good choice if Suarez doesn't go to Arsenal and I can keep Giroud and put RVP in in place of Aguero after downgrading Wally to Snoddy and that's only if need be.

Does anyone think RVP won't win the golden boot?
I mean Suarez, Negredo, Aguero all all pushing him.
Then you have dark horses like Lukaku, Giroud, Bony, Sturridge.
Plus he is an injury prone player with a new manager. If he get's injured or Man U don't play anywhere near as well as last year. 40% of players have lost their fpl season.

Too bad he's been piss poor for the Socceroos.

I think piss poor is a bit harsh. Seeing him play at left-back brings mixed feelings as Im happy he is in the gold shirt but not happy at how out of position he is.

I think the Porta ship has sailed but it would have been worth bringing in a few years ago so would at least have the option. My faith is in Josh Kennedy.

Predicating an offense around lob-ball and Kennedy's forehead is absolutely diabolical.

The Socceroos haven't done enough to earn my support, not by a long shot.

Rogic is the one x-factor for me. Bresc still has it but he's getting on a bit.

It appears that Porta's ship has sailed, for now, and the FFA will probably live to regret it. Bulut, Babalj or even the fabled Andy Rose are worth a shot.

It's stupid to go to Brasil with just Archie and Kennedy and, dare I say it, Brosque, as our strike force. We need someone who can score goals. The Socceroos haven't been able to do that consistently for a long, long time. Porta is the ticket. There's still time!

Must say I find it awful tiresome reading some comments lately hoping that the likes of Bale and Suarez leave the PL since it might make a couple of poxy selection dilemmas slightly easier. I don't know about you guys but i'm a football fan first, it's the reason I started playing FPL so the prospect of the Premier League losing the most exciting and entertaining footballers to watch of the past few seasons doesn't exactly appeal.

Sometimes I wonder if half the people here actually watch football, or just keep an eye on it solely for the purposes of a fantasy game.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this. I grew up in a country where football is well down on the list of popular sports. At the time I played fantasy rugby and when I moved to the city to study I made friends with a guy who introduced me to fantasy football. From here my interest in Football grew and I now appreciate the game a lot more.

I hear what you are saying but as I live so far away from the UK (and the fact that coverage times in NZ is bad and are now no longer on TV), I am somewhat divorced from the effect top players have on the league. However I can appreciate your complaint and I am appalled when people who actually live in the UK would prefer some of these top players to leave the PL for the sake of their FPL team.

From a fantasy football perspective as well I think it would be detrimental to the game to have the most expensive midfielder leave. Suddenly everyone would be able to afford the top players and this would probably lead to more template teams.

I'd chance boruc in goals every week if he's 100% in which i believe he is

    Now then lads,

Anybody care to sort out the Chelsea and City rotation dilemma.....?

So far I have Hazzard and no city coverage, which concerns me a little given citys fixtures. I just cant get my head around spending 7.5mil + on peeps that under new management I have no idea will play.

    Any pointers welcome.....

      Im going without both.

Chelseas' blank in GW3 and a trip to United in GW2 are enough to turn me off. But if you are going to get Chelsea coverage Hazard is definitely the way to go.

City's rotation makes it impossible to pick someone who is a nailed on starter. Silva and Aguero the best bets though. Kompany might be the best bet if you want SAFE City cover.

Maybe its best to wait a week before getting City coverage in because we wont know exactly who is going to start against NEW with the new signings and manager etc. You could have Hazard for GW1 with a nice fixture and trade him out for a nailed on City mid for GW2+3 when Chelsea have United away and blank

This Bale rumour popped up a question in my mind:

Do you guys think nowadays the premier league has lost its touch???
It does not have players like Henry, Ronaldo, Drogba, Bergkamp

and nowadays players like Thiago, Falcao, Cavani, Mkhitaryan, David Villa, Mario Götze, Mario Gomez all had interest from premier league clubs but instead joined other leagues!!!

    what does DZ think???

Ronaldo was the jewel in the crown of the EPL. IMO he'll be back. It's just a matter of when.

Players are generally opting for leagues other than the EPL because of what they can earn after tax (I think) but also the German Bundesliga is increasingly competitive and attractive. I'd say it's the number two league in Europe.

Ok, so I've taken all the RMT-related comments on board. I realize that the season is still over 3 weeks away, but I DO believe that getting input on selection strategies is important, and we have about 90% (or slightly more) of the info (as regards players) that we will have come opening weekend.

So all that said, and considering the new BP system and the way the fixtures have fallen, I've put together the following squad selection. I'd like to hear what our DZ stalwarts have to say.

    Mannone / Boruc
    Toure / Sagna / Coleman / Chester / Parr
    Bale / Walcott / Silva / Coutinho / Wanyama
    Giroud / Sturridge / Anelka

Keepers are dicey to say the least, but rotation looks decent assuming Mannone nails down the starting role. I would be mainly playing a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 depending on the SOT/WBA fixtures, so Chester/Parr would only come into play when one of Toure/Sagna/Coleman has an awful fixture.

Previous iterations have had double Citeh coverage but, given the question marks around Negredo/Jovetic and Aguero's 11m cost, doubling up on Liverpool seems to make more sense.

It is a truly STACKED midfield, especially given what the pundits say about my "cheapie" in Wanyama; while the two week-in week-out forwards have ability and fixtures and Anelka has proven his ability in the Prem in the past.

I personally think the balance is good in terms of points potential and fixtures, and I haven't left myself with an uber defence (a tactic I don't really like given the points potential of players like Toure/Sagna/Coleman).

But I submit my thoughts to the collective scrutiny of the community. Do we see any glaring holes?

Not a bad team, you have three Arsenal players in there which I personally wouldn't do, especially with Sagna. Don't really like the forward line with Anelka, would try to upgrade him to Kone/Berba/Lambert

thanks, PG. i hear you about upgrading Anelka, but the problem is that you're talking about taking 1.5m out of my budget somewhere. Given that I'm not budging on my defensive budget, can you make a case that upgrading Anelka (remember, whoever is in that spot will rotate with Wanyama) is worth losing one of Silva/Walcott/Bale/Coutinho?

I like it, seems very versatile as in you can change your formation easily depending on the form of Anelka and Wanyamamama...You don't have any United players, but in my opinion, United won't be the team we're accustomed to and I don't see RVP doing alllll that much

for sure, was the first defender in my team for now. If we hear something about Pellegrini playing 5 at the back than he should be nailed on

Cheers lads. Think I'll go with Mert since he seems most nailed on (over Nastasic among others).

Don't see Aguero in many teams. expensive but could almost match RVP if consistent. he'll be heavily relied upon now and should be on pk's, and frees. would be nice to use that extra 3.0

I dont think he will be on free kicks (Silva, Milner, Navas, Kolorov, Toure). I dont think he will be on Penalties either (Negredo)

He's in quite a few teams here actually (including mine :D) as I think he is the safest and best City coverage for the time being

I had him in my team for a long time (many without RVP have Aguero). Although I've recently worked out I could save 3m by having Giroud + Silva over Aguero + Walcot.

Got a decent phone, might join the gym, problem is the seasons on the door and a massive big screen of football on a weekend with a pint of Carling is much more appealing by far, I think I'll join one and start going in the week, I'm 39 next month and everythings go pear shaped but I'm happy :D....................as long as the Pool have a good season.

? he is first choice on pk's now with Mario gone.

And he will get plenty of free kick opportunity although that will be shared quite heavily.

I've been looking at Lampard but ended up putting in Hazard, he probably will play more under Mourinho but can't say if he's a nailed on or not, I think I'm still wary and scared from the Rafa rotation system.

      Mata AND Hazard? Why?

Mata will probably be rested after the Spain international just prior to the season kick-off anyway.

Hazard is pretty much a lock, IMO. He'll thrive under Mourinho and he could make some noise in GW2 v United, I reckon.

as things stand (assuming no new signings etc.)

    is the frontline of
    Lukaku Giroud Sturridge
    good?

I mean they will all be the main striker for the team, and they are all cheaper option than the midfield.
and you get 3 of the top 5 teams (or top6//7) striker.

surely it is a god deal?

I've my own doubts on all the three of them!
Lukaku- not nailed on as yet(as per my reckoning!),
Giroud- Value but not sold on him. Think he should still prove his worth and
Sturridge- Looks decent but just watch for his injury.
      Personal opinions though.
      Hope it helps. Cheers!

If Chelsea don't have a DGW in GW1. Considering spain's friendly and mourinho's comments. how will chelsea lineup? (torres and mata out)

    cech
    ivanovic luiz terry cole

    lamps ramires

    shurrle oscar hazard

    lukaku

Will lukaku start before ba? will ramires start as a DM or does out of position Luiz and mou's favorite essien have something to say about it? Will terry return to be regular as cahill watches from the bench? will apiz nailed on and ivanovic used as a CB or benched?

I know we have to wait for the pre-season to unfold, but does anyone has a informed guess?
