The Premier League have this afternoon confirmed both Chelsea and Aston Villa will now start the season with a double Gameweek 1. With the Blues set to face Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup Final on Friday August 30, their home game against Villa, which was initially scheduled for Saturday August 30, has now been shifted to Wednesday August 21.

This news is set to bring the Blues assets firmly onto our Fantasy radars, bearing in mind Jose Mourinho’s side also entertain Hull City on the opening weekend of the new season. Huge investment is now expected to come Chelsea’s way, though Fantasy managers will be mulling over a couple of recent Mourinho comments as they assess just who to splash their budgets on.

The Blues boss admitted Spain’s match in Ecuador, which takes place on August 14, may be a factor in his line-up for the Tigers fixture – something to consider when assessing the likes of Juan Mata, Cesar Azpilicueta and Fernando Torres for our starting XI:

“The players who go for their national teams two days before the opening of the Premier League, it depends a lot on that. Some have to go to Ecuador and come back and arrive in London on Saturday without having slept after a 15-hour flight to train on Saturday morning. If a player plays for England on Wednesday against Scotland, plays for 45 minutes at Wembley and then an hour after the game he is at home in Cobham sleeping, he is in a better condition to play. The team will be decided game after game and week after week. I will have to think about two or three matches at the same time.”

Only yesterday, Mourinho also revealed he will be a little more cautious with Frank Lampard’s game time this term. As mentioned in this morning’s Friendlies Round Up, the veteran midfielder is unlikely to one of the “untouchables†this time around as his manager looks to rest him more often.

The comments perhaps strengthen Eden Hazard’s prospects as the Belgian looks to replicate his start to the previous season, which produced double figures in both his double Gameweek 1 appearances. While loading up on Chelsea looks a viable tactic, a trip to United in Gameweek 2, followed by a blank fixture the following week, also has to be factored into the equation.

For Villa, though, the appeal of a double is significantly lessened, bearing in mind they travel to Arsenal prior to the Stamford Bridge showdown – those eyeing up Christian Benteke, for example, may be a little cautious given the fixtures, though the uncertainty surrounding the Chelsea forwards certainly indicates the Belgian looks the most nailed-on of any double Gameweek frontline option.

We’ll have more on the two sides in upcoming Scouting the Doubles articles – for now, though, this is just a heads-up.

Well I think everyone's rate my teams (inclduing mine!) can pretty much go out of the window, this double has thrown a spanner in the works. Not a fan of the United game in the mix, and the blank 3rd week in, so not sure what to do

Are people going to put in the max players (obviously for the max point coverage) but than risk benching huge assets for the blank? What is the general consensus?

Lukaku and Hazard - Lukaku can be transferred pretty easily and I don't mind a player of Hazard's quality playing United.

think i have solved my problem. i dont want to ditch aguero or giroud for lukaku so what about starting with lampard and hazard then simply:

GW2: Lampard --> mirallas (WBA home)
GW3: Hazard --> Walcott (TOT home) or Silva (Hull home)

    Migs - 4.0
    Luiz - Coleman - Clyne - M Turner - Chester
    Hazard - Lampard - Bale - Snodgrass - Thomas
    Aguero - Giroud - JRod

That's true, their options are stacking up a bit. If I go with him its out of fear; if I don't it's also out of fear. 🙂

But I'd rather have him sat in my team in case I miss the FPL jersey swap 😉

As much as I really rate Luiz, it has got me thinking is he likely to play both DGW games considering he has had a shorter summer than most (Confed Cup) and has a friendly 3 days before the start of the season. With Terry/Cahill/Ivanovic all capable of playing CB is there a chance he mayat least get rested for the first game?

this is the trouble with DGWs especially ones this early

you can ruin a nicely set-up team by going all in for DGW, but by the same token, if you don't go all in you run the risk of being left behind.

I think last season I had Ivan, Lamps and Torres and took a hit GW2.

Not sure you'll get a juicier DGW than Chelsea at home against Hull and Villa. I'd make the most of it.

WC for week 2 isn't so bad anyway. At least you can get on the knee-jerk price rises, and you can trade all of your players without sacrificing any built up value.

Look at this team if Rooney goes...

    Mignolet, Lewis
    Luiz, Dawson, Alcaraz, Parr, Turner
    Bale, Hazard, Silva, Snodgrass, Thomas
    Rooney, Giroud, Rodriguez

It's just perfectly primed. Luiz + Rooney > Zabaleta + Aguero GW 3.

The Tottenham one. I'm convinced he'll start. Kaboul is coming off a ridiculously injury hit season. Dawson was also club captain and played well at the end of last season. Can't see him being dropped.

They don't really play the same position...

I'd say it goes something like this:

Oscar, Lampard fighting for a spot
Ramires, Essien fighting for a spot
Hazard, Moses, Schurrle, Mata fighting for 2 spots

    Is Bale worthit? (again)

    Hi Guys,

I'm a new member of FFS but I've played two seasons of FPL, so I'm still inexperienced. I've been lurking since the 15th and only changed my team a million times after taking into account all the information that has been put forward.

I'm trying to figure out if I've missed something with regards to the new BPS. Originally i thought Bale was a must have based on last season's performance and on favourable fixtures. However, using the statistics given on the FPL site, Bale would have finished 17th overall last year based on new BPS.

Have i misinterpreted the stats, misunderstood the new BPS or is the reality that the new rules have a massive impact on all areas on the game and on many individuals?

Feedback and explanations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Terry worth a punt instead of Luiz (0,5 cheaper)? Is Terry gonna be the captain this season?

think there are little positives for terry this season apart from the obvious crazy goal threat he carries lately. main one was mourinho's comments on ivanovic being seen more as a right back this season. a more minor one which wont do him any harm is not being an international footballer any more.

as for your q i'd probbaly still feel safer with luiz in my team minutes wise, he's physically so impressive.

The dilemna is that if Bale doesn't hurry up and Rooney does go to Chelsea

Squads that want 4 Chelsea will need to decide to go with or without Bale and won't be able to change their mind.
