Romelu Lukaku is rested to the bench as Fernando Torres leads the line in the first match of Chelsea’s double. Oscar proves his differential status by grabbing the opener from his role in “the hole”, while Roberto Soldado opens his Tottenham account with a coolly-converted spot-kick at Selhurst Park.

The Game Changer

While Chelsea eased past Hull at the Bridge, Tottenham’s narrow victory came courtesy of their summer signing from Valencia. Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolled up to Palace without last term’s talisman Gareth Bale and with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Christian Benteke, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge opening their accounts on Saturday, Roberto Soldado’s 15% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners were desperate for a response from their 9.5 investment.

The Spaniard may have looked sluggish but eventually delivered thanks to a smartly converted spot-kick. His manager duly admitted post-match that Soldado’s still lacks “sharpness”. Despite this, the numbers suggest good things to come: Soldado had more shots on target and created more goalscoring opportunities than any Spurs player.

A guaranteed starter, whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, he now sets his sights on a run of four home fixtures (SWA, NOR, WHM, HUL) and also has trips to Cardiff and Villa in the next eight Gameweeks.

For those eyeing up an exit route for Romelu Lukaku or who simply cannot stomach shelling out 14.0 for Van Persie, Soldado certainly presents an option if he can, as Villas-Boas’ suggests, sharpen up in the weeks to come. Conceivably, he could even become an armband contender over Tottenham’s favourable run.

The Underused

Oscar went into today’s clash firmly in the shadow of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in terms of FPL ownership. Typically, however, he stepped up to deliver and outscore both. Moved to the role in “the hole” behind Fernando Torres, the Brazilian – with less than 5% ownership – continued the form that saw him score in three of his last five starts in 2012/13 by poking home the opener at the Bridge.

Mourinho has already suggested he is likely to field the playmaking skills of Oscar centrally more often this season but with Mata warming the bench for the entire match, there’s every possibility the Brazilian could be ousted from the XI for Wednesday’s game with Villa, with Jose giving the Spaniard a run-out. Furthermore, the introduction of Marco Van Ginkel and subsequent shift to a 4-3-3 merely compounds the potential headache we could face this season, with Chelsea’s midfield boasting an embarrassment of riches.

The Selection Poser

Jose Mourinho’s first teamsheet of the season has already signposted the Fantasy frustration we can expect up front for Chelsea over the upcoming campaign. Romelu Lukaku was the Blues form player over the summer, racking up five goals and a pair of assist across the pre-season fixtures, and was anticipated by many to get the nod as Mourinho welcomed Hull to the Bridge. Instead, it was Fernando Torres who led the line against the Tigers, earning an assist for Lampard’s stunning dead ball strike after being fouled, before making way for the Belgian on 75 minutes.

Today’s XI will, at least, afford Lukaku’s owners a fair degree of optimism ahead of the midweek visit of Villa. Surely he will now return to the starting line-up on Wednesday against Paul Lambert’s side but with a trip to United and a blank Gameweek 3, it seems the exodus is already underway.

Planned to have Hazard Oscar RVP Welbeck for the gameweek 2 match between MU vs Chelsea. Yes or No?

      That would be ridiculous.

First, chelsea have utd, blank, spurs, fulham derby, everton. Only Fulham at home.

Second, Danny wellbeck is danny wellbeck.

Third. United have chelsea, liverpool, palace, man city.

      Posted this earlier today.

There was some mild concern amonst saints fans that Osvaldo might disrupt the current fairytail that is Rickie Lambert esepcially as the new guy seems to have an ego. The following article has helped ease some of those concerns, seems Osvaldo is adept at playing as part of a front 3 or out wide in a 4-2-3-1 system (mo pos prefered option). Given Rickie cant play any other role but target man and you're not going to spend $15m and have a lad sit on the bench it looks likely that it might be Jrod/lall/Ram that make way but both Rickie and Pablo with both get game time rather than canablising each others.

      http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1738942-pablo-osvaldo-to-southampton-roma-star-would-be-a-great-tactical-fit

its wierd being a saints fan at the moment.....good wierd, but wierd never-the-less.

    1st transfer -

    Ivan to Coleman

    or

    Ivan - Zab

    2nd transfer -

    Kos - Coleman/Zab

I would rather have Zab earlier but worried Kos value will drop if I don't transfer him out sooner.

    How long until Kos drops?

i can't remember if there's any price protection for red-flagged players. maybe it's only for injured ones? is there any such thing?

if not, i'd expect kosc's price to fall overnight tonight (i'm in DZ time zone), meaning tomorrow early am in the UK (not today).

would have to see how zaba does tonight: should he pick up any attacking points i'd go kosc>zaba and hold off on ivan.

How important is making team value as part of our overall strategy?Last season I knew nothing of FFS or FISO and subsequent price changes. After gw8 II took a real interest and built up a team value that allowed me an 'extra big hitter'.As part of my strategy this year im going early and bringing a bandwagon player in. Why? Look at recent articles entitled 'knee jerk' and thats whats casuals do. Ive seen people say on here how are people going to get RvP in? Simple a 12pt hit or a gw2 wc. Seeing as so many casuals play early on then fade away to leave a ghost team im going with the theory that casuals highly impact price changes in the opening gameweeks and a pair of 4pt hits jumping on the right bandwagons might put you closer to RvP and a decent side.

It is important but also important not to jump on bandwagons and play value only.

If there is a player I planned to get in or remove prior to that Gw that is due to go up or down before Saturday I will bring in for an early trade to gain/not to lose value.

Otherwise I will wait until Saturday (am)

Also makes me consider an early swoop for Coleman, but it's too risky to do anything before at least all the games are played. Most likely I'll sit back until Saturday 🙂

It's the exact reason why I've got Coleman in already. Was going to do either him or Baines in this week and the attacking performance on the weekend sealed it.

He could be 5.2 by Saturday morning.

It's very important to build up value. You really notice it in the second half of the season. But don't pick any old bandwagon. Get players you genuinely want and will perform regularly as well. For eg this week Coleman is a great bandwagon. Whittaker and Barkley less great.

Last year on my first fpl season, I run after Michus and Afros etc. Ended up with 115 value, all big hitters and ranked #5 in GW2 starters, so imho it's smart to accumulate value but only with nailed starters and only if you expect 0.3 rises.

I like that Moyes is not losing sense. 19-20Mil for Fellaini is about right. Baines 12 and we don't even need him.

Better off signing a natural winger then ?

Also having Baines in front of Evra would surely just mean two players occupying the same areas going forwards ?

Fellaini had a clause for a transfer fee of £22m until recently, I think it's extremely bad form for their former manager to offer any less than that. I mean they paid £15m for him a while ago, and he's improved since then

Sturridge isn't lacking in confidence and he get much more support from his team.

If you don't have Benteke now then in my opinion you have missed it!
I don't see the point in bringing him in when you are going to have him blank next GW3

I would personally downgrade Enrique seeing as you have double liverpool defense and I can't see them keeping a clean sheet... If you have a half decent defender on the bench that is. Doubt you will as you have RVP 😆

I think Terry will get plenty of game time.
He's still a quality defender and Mourinho has played a lot of old CB's in his previous teams. Obviously he will be rotated a few times but I honestly think he will play a big part in Chelsea's season.

I just don't agree with doubling up on defenders, too risky 😉

As I want to start Barkley at home to WBA instead of Hazard away to Man United I looked at:

    1) Hazards performances against Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man United & Tottenham both home and away.
    &
    2) Hazards performances Home compared to Away.

    1) In 10 matches Hazard scored 1 goal & assisted 1. The goal away to Liverpool & the assist away to Tottenham.

    2) Hazards performances at Home far exceed his Away performances (although point 1 may contradict this).

Think my minds made up with Hazard 1st benched with Barkley starting!

Terry has attacking threat from corners and CS potential. Hazard, as the stats prove to some point, hasn't performed against the big teams yet and isn't as good a prospect when Away from home.

Terry always raises his game against the big teams and is often on the score sheet against them.

Not because I already have Everton cover, but because of what JuanCarlos said, plus Martinez's teams aren't renowned for clean sheet potential so you'll be relying on attacking points, and he won't perform this well every GW (I hope!)
