With just a single match remaining of Gameweek 1, our attentions have already turned to next weekend and beyond as our regular look at the fixture list is rolled out once again. Assessing the strength of schedule over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, the omens look good for in-form City and Southampton, though United and Chelsea owners may be a little concerned by their fixtures looming.

The Strong

Southampton

A 1-0 win at West Brom saw the Saints mirror the resilience displayed towards the end of the previous campaign. Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended 2012/13 with just nine goals conceded in the final 10 fixtures and with an enticing schedule ahead, there’s plenty cause for optimism amongst Fantasy managers. Artur Boruc looks secure between the sticks, while Luke Shaw has earned himself an early bandwagon after a 12 point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) return at the Hawthorns – home games against Sunderland, West Ham, Palace and Swansea, in addition to a trip to Norwich, bolster their chances of further defensive returns. Providing he’s passed fit, Nathaniel Clyne looks an under the radar option at right-back.

Further up the field, Rickie Lambert is likely to retain his role as the lone forward as Pochettino looks to accommodate new boy Pablo Osvaldo into his frontline. Lambert’s spot-kick duties and share of set-pieces make him an appealing option for our three-man frontlines over that upcoming run, while skipper Adam Lallana looks a viable mid-price midfield alternative.

Man City

Monday night’s hammering of Newcastle served notice of City’s renewed swagger under Manuel Pellegrini. While the Chilean was keen to reiterate his intentions to utilise the strength of the City squad, the likes of David Silva, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero are already on Fantasy radars ahead of games against Cardiff, Hull and Stoke. Vincent Kompany’s groin complaint looks set to cement Joleon Lescott’s place at the back, and with Matija Nastasic resuming training this week, clean sheet returns look on the cards – Pablo Zabaleta’s right flank raids could bring in further points, with Micah Richards’ hamstring injury clearing any uncertainty over possible rotation for the Argentine.

Tottenham

A narrow win over Palace last Sunday allowed Roberto Soldado to open his account with a coolly-taken spot-kick. The Spaniard now prepares for four enticing matches in the next six which could earn him Fantasy points aplenty – home games against Swansea, Norwich and West Ham, with a trip to Cardiff also thrown in, more than atone for testing showdowns with Arsenal and Chelsea. Fantasy managers eagerly await a conclusion to the Gareth Bale saga – the Welshman would be an obvious armband contender but his possible departure to Madrid may bring the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson into the equation, though Andre Villas-Boas will surely reinvest if his star man does leg it to La Liga.

At the back, Jan Vertonghen’s class has already collected him a couple of bonus points in the new system on top of the Palace clean sheet. Michael Dawson mid-price appeal could earn him new suitors – he seems to be ahead of Younes Kaboul in the central defensive pecking order as the latter builds up his fitness.

Liverpool

A look at the fixture ticker sees Brendan Rodgers’ side rated as fourth most favourable over the next six Gameweeks. While trips to Villa and Swansea are perhaps debatable in terms of clean sheets, the chance of attacking returns for Philippe Coutinho, Iago Aspas and Daniel Sturridge look decent as the Reds attempt to build on their opening day win over Stoke. Home games against Southampton and Palace and a trip to Sunderland offer points potential at both ends of the pitch, with Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet owners remaining confident.

Also Consider

Newcastle – on paper at least, the Magpies have the most appealing four-match run of any side. Home games against West Ham, Fulham and Hull, in addition to a trip to Villa, look ideal as they attempt to bounce back from Monday’s mauling at City. Form-wise, though, Alan Pardew’s side offered little to convince would-be suitors – with Steven Taylor suspended for the next two league games and Davide Santon a doubt, their backline already looks under strength, while the potential loss of playmaker Yohan Cabaye hardly helps morale. Further up the field, Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse are nailed-on but drafting either in looks no more than a punt at the moment.

Hull – Steve Bruce will be targeting a run of four home games in the next six as a viable source of points for the Tigers. Norwich, Cardiff, West Ham and Villa all roll up to the KC Stadium between now and Gameweek 7 and with a trip to Newcastle also in their short-term agenda, the omens look good for the promoted club. A recent change of formation to 4-3-3 is worth keeping an eye on here. Budget option James Chester looks a decent shout at the back in light of that schedule, while Roberto Koren looks the safest option in midfield – Ahmed Elmohamady has been shifted to right-back, while Robbie Brady started in the midfield three against Chelsea.

Norwich – unconvincing in their home draw against Everton, Chris Hughton’s side have a trip to Hull and two strong home games against Southampton and Villa in the next four. Seb Bassong played 90 minutes for the reserves on Monday – his potential return looks crucial as the Canaries look to replicate the form that harvested eight clean sheets at Carrow Road last time out. Robert Snodgrass is looking to recover from a groin problem; his creativity will bolster the appeal of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel up top.

The Weak

Man United

David Moyes’ side made light work of a perceived difficult trip to Swansea last Saturday evening but United’s upcoming schedule remains undoubtedly tricky. A home clash with Chelsea this weekend precedes trips to Liverpool and City – while you wouldn’t back against Robin Van Persie under virtually any circumstance, those fixtures are enough to deter any Fantasy managers from snapping up the champions’ assets. A Gameweek 4 home clash with Palace looks the one bright spot before the schedule clears considerably a fortnight later.

Chelsea

Jose Mourinho’s side brace themselves for a schedule which sees them play just once at Stamford Bridge in the next six Gameweeks. Trips to United, Everton and Spurs in the following five, in addition to a blank Gameweek 3, hands those who loaded up on Chelsea assets for the double a real dilemma. Romelu Lukaku owners are already jumping ship after he was benched for the home game against Hull, while Mourinho’s teamsheet against Villa may give an indication as to the extent of rotation we can come to expect over the season ahead.

West Brom

Having opened their campaign with a narrow home defeat to Southampton, the Baggies chances of bouncing back are undermined by a tricky run of matches. Steve Clarke’s side square up to three of last season’s top six (eve, mun ARS) in the next six Gameweeks and with a showdown against Swansea and trip to Fulham also thrown into the mix, there’s no real cause for optimism at either end of the pitch. Nicolas Anelka’s subdued opening display may already be giving his owners second thoughts, while investment in the West Brom backline looks a route best avoided.

Be Wary Of…

Aston Villa – Paul Lambert’s side welcome Liverpool and City to Villa Park in the next five, while a blank Gameweek 3 and visit to Norwich also await the midlands outfit. Though those who loaded up on Villa assets for the double may be scouring the market for alternatives, though Villa’s display at the Emirates has already suggested they may cause a few upsets along the way this term. Certainly, Christian Benteke owners will have little fear of fixture difficulty on the back of his double against Arsenal.

Sunderland – Paolo Di Canio’s side will feel hard done by after dominating against Fulham yet falling to defeat. The Black Cats don’t have time to feel sorry for themselves, though, as they ready themselves for the visit of Arsenal, Liverpool and United in the next six Gameweeks. With trips to Southampton and West Brom also to consider, few will fancy the Wearsiders as an option right now.

Stoke – the weekend home game against Palace is the one bright spot over the next four Gameweeks for Mark Hughes’ troops. Trips to West Ham and Arsenal, with a home showdown against City sandwiched in between, suggest Asmir Begovic will once again have his work cut out to deliver the Fantasy returns – the Bosnian’s heroics earned five points at Anfield last time out despite the narrow 1-0 loss.

Swansea – as the Swans lick their wounds after the opening day home mauling by United, their schedule remains unappetising. Michael Laudrup’s men face Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal in the next six and also have a trip to Southampton on their agenda – with Europa League duties also factored in, rest and rotation looks a potential problem. Laudrup started with Wilfried Bony on the bench against United and while the Ivorian climbed off to notch a consolation, there’s a fear his manager’s teamsheet could be a sign of things to come.

morning guys, is anyone else not sold on the dzeko-wagon? I mean he had a good all round game but he fluffed a lot of good chances that could have been critical in a game that was close and could have proved tiltle deciding if they'd been in games with united, Chelsea, arsenal, spurs. no doubt pellagrini would have reviewed these fluffed chances and must have been wondering would negredo/jovetic have converted. with negredo steadily getting accustomed to the prem and jovetic coming back from injury I really worry about dzekos gametime.

He didnt convert one against ten men pub team

One of the best strikers in europe sitting on the bench who has a far better conversion rate.

True, but all the signs were good, except not for scoring.

He has a points per game ratio of 7.5, Dzeko ain't a bad player if he gets the minutes.

Still a gamble to own him, but those are the risks you take.

Where does your points per game ratio of 7.5 come from? Last season he got 130 points in 16 starts plus 16 substitute appearances, which is only 4.1 points per game.

but playing a nice game and running your socks off and working hard and having lots of shots wont win pellegrini the title, the front man of a 4-2-3-1 is on the field to find the net. negredo will be trusted in this position more than dzeko. dzeko will be there for the fa cup games once negredo and jovetic have settled in.

I do, but not the reason i'm advocating the big man here. It's a calculated risk to own him, I started with him from the start instead of Tekkers.

The facts are, he has an average of 7.5 points per game played in the league and a good scoring record for city, a great scoring record for country and Wolfsburg.

He ain't a donkey, that's all i'm saying. Gets allot of stick on here (regarding his playing skill), ala Suarez at the start of last year.

                  Agreed. He's not a donkey. He's also not a world-beater.

If you think it's worth the risk, get him, but he will be rotated before long and leave a lot of people frustrated.

I feel he may have already had the chance he earner with his good pre-season and that Negredo and Jovetic will come in before long.

He is definitely a short term option in my books, not sure id bring him in now. My plan is to move him out GW4 for RVP.

He is a pretty good player who does not get allot of praise, lets leave it at that. @7.5, you're getting allot of upside, but the payoff is the risk he will get dropped and necessitate a transfer.

All the city strikers have rotation concerns around them. Ultimately, the answer may be that none of them are viable long term.

My strikers are Lambert, Soldado, Aguero.

Look at last year. Rvp, tevez, suarez, benteke, lambert.
All were their sides top man. Dzeko wont be that.

Another thing. If getting a big club player, get someone good. If spending less, get a wee club player who is good.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned more, he missed a lot of time last season, was withdrawn early on Monday, and they'll probably want him fit for European games... For that money I do think you need a consistent starter. Especially when you've got Soldado, Sturridge, Benteke etc for a couple of mil less.

One game in which he doesn't score and people write him off. You think his MOM performance will get him dropped next week? You might not want him because he hasn't scored many fantasy points but I'd guess Pelli won't see it that way. It's not often in football the best performer in the last game gets dropped unless he's getting rested.

Plus Negredo scored a perfectly good goal in his short time on the pitch and showed some class.

If Mr.Pellegrini gives Dzeko, a run of five matches, including that of last week. I'm sure he would provide at least 5 goals in them. A gut feeling...

Let's do a blind taste test...

      Player A

      Shots- 8
      Shots on Target- 4
      Headed Goal Attempts: 4
      Penalty Area Touches- 14
      Mins per Attempt- 11
      Final Third Touches- 33
      Mins per Pass Received- 3.1

      Player B

      Shots- 7
      Shots on Target- 3
      Headed Goal Attempts- 2
      Penalty Area Touches- 8
      Mins per Attempt- 12
      Final Third Touches- 25
      Mins per Pass Received- 3.4

Now, what if I told you Player A costs half of what it'll cost you to have Player B.
Psst, I'll let you in on a secret; Player A is Dzeko & Player B is RVP!
      Shocking reveal, I know...

Right, now I do wholly understand your concerns regarding rotation however, it's these underlying statistics which are drawing people to have Dzeko in their side.

Now, no one is claiming we have to keep him in our squad for the entire season but, with these numbers & at this price, you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in the FPL game.

No, no I didn't miss that...

Over the long term we're going to come out ahead when choosing the players with the best underlying statistics / "KPI", right?

So, this wasn't an argument against RVP rather, it was evidence of why people feel compelled to have Dzeko in their side.

That is, Dzeko had a comparable performance to RVP.

It's coming from how incredible he was against United. Better than anyone in his price range aside from Dzeko in just half a game against arguably the best defense in the league. I agree with you, I'm waiting a few weeks until the fixtures are better, but that's where it's coming from.

I have the super sub goal disallowed guy Negredo 🙁
My plan is this week once I get rvp is to go :
Negredo > Aguero and Bentekke > Lambert(ish) for - 4 , but again I've only the exact cash for that move so I need prices to stay the same.
Feels like last season all over again chasing prices (pain) but I did get a decent finish in the end ..
I've even planned my next moves :
Mirallas > Nolan , Morrison > Snod but again thats exact money stuff !
        - looks like a bit if work till I get tram sorted ...
Unless of course an injury hits / Red card or even Negredo gets a brace this weekend ....

You ended up with a great rank last season, didn't you? I'd say go with your guts mate. I've planned several moves myself, but to work the prices need to stay the same.

I assure you, Dzeko is never gonna be a clear game. If you have 4 world-class strikers, you will always be suspect to rotation.

Yet, I personally thought Dzeko was absolutely fab last game. And as his finishing is usually good, I wouldn't worry about him not scoring. It's only the game-time which hampers me.

Hazard and Benteke -> Silva and Aguero next?

I am wcing too, let me give you some tips.
      Zab is a must now!
Same front 3 as mine well I will downgrade Aguero after a few GWs for a more nailed on attacker (Sturridge, Benteke, Bony...)
Lallana is a risk with the arrival of Osvaldo
Silva is good but I am going for Coutinho for Pool coverage
      Snod is injured
      Barkley is not nailed on
Whittaker will loose its place to Russel Marton when Bassong is back

      That is mine now:
      Boruc,Lewis
      Zab,Coleman,Shaw,Collins,Chester

I wanted Luke Shaw for Ivanovic....but I guess Clyne's a good option too. Is he likely to be fit this week?

    Boruc (Marshall)
    Shaw Coleman Zab (Chester Whittaker)
    Siggy Rosicky Silva Coutinho (Barkley)
    Van Wolfs Aguero(c) RVP

    a) Barkley over Rozzzer/ Van Wolfs ?
    b) Aspas instead of Van wolfs?

I like all of them but unless you can spend the extra dollar elsewhere I'd go Giroud.

Is having both Aguero and Dzeko until the International Break too much?

Aye, too much of a rotation risk between them for one, and two you're investing heavily in city.

You might as well ask an artist to explain his painting, or a writer to explain his book. Only though the journey is the answer revealed.

Which gameweek is that? It could work out well, even if Dzeko starts getting benched, then we've seen in the past how he is able to come on for a cameo and still do some damage

If Negredo' perfectly good goal had stood , he would of had more points than Dzeko in ten minutes of gametime.
If that goal had stood would we still have a dzeko bandwagon?

Not sure about this... Given a good run I'm sure Dzeko is just as good of a player as Negredo.

It was slowing down the site over the GW1 deadline so they removed it. I gather they are trying to streamline it so that it doesn't slow the site down.
