Another strong Villa display. Another Christian Benteke goal. This time, however, Paul Lambert’s blossoming side fall short as Branislav Ivanovic is allowed to stay on the pitch to nod home Chelsea’s winner.

The Game Changer

Arguably, referee Kevin Friend was the most influential individual on show. There’s also a strong case for Christian Benteke who struck his third goal of the season and has now scored nine league goals in his last 10 outings. Branislav Ivanovic’s goal proved the difference, however, and rewarded those who invested their double Gameweek funds whilst underlining the goal threat previously on show in Saturday’s win over Hull.

Friend’s decision to brandish a yellow for Ivanovic’s lashing out on Benteke was undoubtedly the turning point. It allowed the Serbian to demonstrate his ability at set-plays as, just minutes later, he headed home Frank Lampard’s dead ball delivery.

Ivanovic was the only Chelsea defender denied Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points from the Hull victory. Despite escaping a red card and being left for dead by Gabby Agbonlahor for Villa’s goal, Ivanovic looks set to earn bonus to make him Chelsea’s top scoring double Gameweek asset.

The Underused

While Benteke will earn huge investment following another goal and effective display, those who are struggling to stretch their funds to the Belgian will be eyeing the impact of Gabby Agbonlahor. So impressive during Villa’s run at the end of last season, he has started the new campaign in stunning form and yet claims less than 2% FPL ownership.

Instrumental in the victory at the Emirates, it was his turn of pace and delivery that set up Benteke for his equaliser. Agbonlahor has scored five goals and earned four assists in his last ten league outings.

The Selection Poser

It’s hardly a poser. Jose Mourinho’s decision to start with Demba Ba and leave Romelu Lukaku shackled on the bench disappointed Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans alike. His introduction for the ineffective Ba on 65 minutes provided little consolation. Lukaku played fewer minutes than any other Chelsea striker in the double Gameweek, having looked primed to start the campaign following a convincing pre-season.

Mourinho’s reluctance to hand Lukaku a central role on the Premier League stage is a puzzle. Perhaps he will start at Old Trafford on Monday and face a defence which he terrified on the final day of last season at the Hawthorns. It’s unlikely to make a difference – Lukaku’s ownership and price look set to slide.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    If Lukaku owners were to learn something from this experience surely it will be to only get nailed on players. I'm baffled by how many are searching for hurt and selling Lukaku for Dzeko 😕

    Originally, I was set to lose Lamps after the double gameweek, retaining Hazard. With cash needed to allow the purchase of RVP, this is a dilemna I did not perceive.

    I reckon Hazard is more likely to see more game time but as already proven, that does not necessarily equate to points. Lamps or Hazard, what do you think?

      I think you should keep Lampard around. His freekicks look very threatening plus he is on penalties. Playing him in the double pivot may also see him expend less energy per game then he used to in his more advanced position thus allowing him to feature more often.

    I need counseling.

    Please help.

    I took Lukaku out for Soldado for a -4 after telling people not to sell Lukaku prior to Man United, even if he drops. Then I started reading comments about Euro fixtures and not selling Lukaku. Earlier I was telling people not to take a -4 this early in the season. 😆

    HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLP

      Yep it's a dilemma after Lukaku got his hatrick at OT last season. Anyway I called it because

      A: he may not start
      B: it's against Man U and they looked quite tasty.
      C: because Chelsea have a blank GW3

      You should never use your free transfer mid-week. Now you've learnt your lesson.

    Well, now. As I already have Coutinho + Toure, should I transfer:

    a) Lukaku => Sturridge
    b) Lukaku => Lambert
    c) Lukaku => Džeko

      Sturridge and then plan to ditch Coutinho in later weeks IMO

      Same dilemma (but with Migs, not Toure) and I think Sturridge is the man now Osvaldo's at the Saints.

      Coutinho to Silva at some point could pay off

      This must be a difficult situation, because I don't recall you ever asking us for FPL advice.

      We are stumped just like you are. I think I am gonna go Lukaku -> Aguero, and shelf my RVP plan for now. Get RVP in gw6 instead of gw4.

      I don't think I can handle Dzeko on the bench in gw3 or gw4.
      Sturridge is a good option if you don't have Coutinho.
      Irrespective of what the scouts say, I'd wait to see Southampton play before I jump on any of their strikers.

    I'm very tempted by an 8 point hit, I think I only took one of those all of last season, and I might do it in the first week this time.

    Lukaku and De Bruyne to Sturridge and Nolan looks lovely 😉

    What are the thoughts on Welbeck ?....fixtures aside. Rooney had two assists from the bench but will that be enough to dislodge Welbeck after his two goals ?...

      If rooney starts it will be for giggs.

      We have to consider Welbeck is a young lad and will feature more every season. Can´t use his game time from last season as parameter.

      He´s also polyvalent. He could play as second striker or wide. He´ll get plenty of minutes and if he´s regularly played as a second striker he´ll get plenty of points.

      Don´t have him BTW but I think this is his season

    Captain poll!

    A) Soldado. Pens. Nailed on. Main man. BUT europa league game tomorrow and swans didn´t look so terrible vs united despite the score.

    B) Silva. Nailed on. Finding the net lately (he scored in pre season too). Great fixture. BUT playing wide. could score or assist but usually lacks explosive returns.

    C) Dzeko. Great Fixture. Good first game despite not scoring. Most likely of explosive returns if he starts. BUT rotation risk. (i´d say he´s 65/35 to start).
