Another strong Villa display. Another Christian Benteke goal. This time, however, Paul Lambert’s blossoming side fall short as Branislav Ivanovic is allowed to stay on the pitch to nod home Chelsea’s winner.

The Game Changer

Arguably, referee Kevin Friend was the most influential individual on show. There’s also a strong case for Christian Benteke who struck his third goal of the season and has now scored nine league goals in his last 10 outings. Branislav Ivanovic’s goal proved the difference, however, and rewarded those who invested their double Gameweek funds whilst underlining the goal threat previously on show in Saturday’s win over Hull.

Friend’s decision to brandish a yellow for Ivanovic’s lashing out on Benteke was undoubtedly the turning point. It allowed the Serbian to demonstrate his ability at set-plays as, just minutes later, he headed home Frank Lampard’s dead ball delivery.

Ivanovic was the only Chelsea defender denied Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points from the Hull victory. Despite escaping a red card and being left for dead by Gabby Agbonlahor for Villa’s goal, Ivanovic looks set to earn bonus to make him Chelsea’s top scoring double Gameweek asset.

The Underused

While Benteke will earn huge investment following another goal and effective display, those who are struggling to stretch their funds to the Belgian will be eyeing the impact of Gabby Agbonlahor. So impressive during Villa’s run at the end of last season, he has started the new campaign in stunning form and yet claims less than 2% FPL ownership.

Instrumental in the victory at the Emirates, it was his turn of pace and delivery that set up Benteke for his equaliser. Agbonlahor has scored five goals and earned four assists in his last ten league outings.

The Selection Poser

It’s hardly a poser. Jose Mourinho’s decision to start with Demba Ba and leave Romelu Lukaku shackled on the bench disappointed Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans alike. His introduction for the ineffective Ba on 65 minutes provided little consolation. Lukaku played fewer minutes than any other Chelsea striker in the double Gameweek, having looked primed to start the campaign following a convincing pre-season.

Mourinho’s reluctance to hand Lukaku a central role on the Premier League stage is a puzzle. Perhaps he will start at Old Trafford on Monday and face a defence which he terrified on the final day of last season at the Hawthorns. It’s unlikely to make a difference – Lukaku’s ownership and price look set to slide.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Don't take a point hit to do that though. If you need -4 to get Aguero, get Dzeko. GW2 is always very uncertain, avoid point hits

Honestly, I rate Dzeko very, very highly. Mancini did lots of things to diminish his confidence during his reign, and Dzeko still managed to notch 30 goals in 77 games. Dzeko will surprise people this year- Pelligrini has taken well to him and with his support, he can be a beast

a better option than Lescott, as he is back from injury now and is pushing for a start on sunday, plau Kompany is injured. More of a long term investment?

Coutinho actually isn't playing OOP. He is playing behind a front 3. It they ever switch to 4-2-3-1 then he kinda will, but if they line up with 4-3-3 like they did Saturday, he will keep playing pretty far back.

The only transfers Arsenal will be making will be for 60,000 XL pizzas at the next game at Emirates.

Cus they aint getting any players in....and the fans (with hair) are pulling their hair out.

All the other players are a no go when you have Sanogo.

Benzema and Di Maria? You're having a laugh!

If they come of I will applaud Mr Venger.

Looks like another Galacticos at Madrid. Bale and Ronaldo and 9 random others from the youth and reserve team. Ivan Campo. Pavon etc etc

I really want Silva in when I can do it. Sooner rather than later. He was set out on the wing, but he played more in the hole and he looked very lively. I reckon another 10 or so goals and 15+ assists season is on the cards.

Teams dont really play with rigid formations anymore. We are moving into another era of football, where you basically run around wherever you want to, 50 people hacking away and chasing after 1 ball.

      Like primary school football.

Now Silva.....I know it says "you play on left side" on the tactics board over there....but ignore that, GO ANYWHERE.

Yes please, I'll have some of that. He nipped in with a header aswell the midget, so he'll be on the end of a lot of that scrappiness and tap ins, also second balls.

Wanted to hold on to Lukaku to avoid a 4pt hit (even if it was -.1m), but he's plummeting since the game ended and I'd hate to risk losing -.2m before the weekend.

So, Ivan to Dawson, Lukaku to Soldado. Hovering over the confirm button...

(as a conservative manager, I just can't pull the trigger on Dzeko)

I was about to say "I'm wary of unproven PL players," but I caught the irony pre-post.

Then I was about to justify a Fixtures argument with Swansea's Europa involvement... again, caught myself.

It comes down to the fact that Soldado & Spurs feels more secure, I suppose.

Bony has great stats and a great goal scoring record.

I nearly went him but ended up going sturridge instead. granted I already have Soldado.

it's just for you, I don't fancy taking a hit for a defender.

Aguero is probably still more nailed on, but Dzeko played a blinder and is cheaper. I just don't like the possible rotation risk of city's front line. Its as bad as the Chelsea midfield.

So 5/10 of the top players this week had RVP. Obviously, 5/10 didnt. So it was a split decision at least for week one as to which way to go. This makes sense as it did seem very 50/50 before the week.

The question is, now that GW1 is out of the way, and no double, it is looking like RVP is in the box seat. I am still on the non-RVP side but for the first time I am a little worried. My only saving grace at the moment is he hasn't yet risen in price and he still has some very hard fixtures in front of him. Fingers crossed Chelsea and Liverpool can keep him out.
