Another strong Villa display. Another Christian Benteke goal. This time, however, Paul Lambert’s blossoming side fall short as Branislav Ivanovic is allowed to stay on the pitch to nod home Chelsea’s winner.

The Game Changer

Arguably, referee Kevin Friend was the most influential individual on show. There’s also a strong case for Christian Benteke who struck his third goal of the season and has now scored nine league goals in his last 10 outings. Branislav Ivanovic’s goal proved the difference, however, and rewarded those who invested their double Gameweek funds whilst underlining the goal threat previously on show in Saturday’s win over Hull.

Friend’s decision to brandish a yellow for Ivanovic’s lashing out on Benteke was undoubtedly the turning point. It allowed the Serbian to demonstrate his ability at set-plays as, just minutes later, he headed home Frank Lampard’s dead ball delivery.

Ivanovic was the only Chelsea defender denied Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points from the Hull victory. Despite escaping a red card and being left for dead by Gabby Agbonlahor for Villa’s goal, Ivanovic looks set to earn bonus to make him Chelsea’s top scoring double Gameweek asset.

The Underused

While Benteke will earn huge investment following another goal and effective display, those who are struggling to stretch their funds to the Belgian will be eyeing the impact of Gabby Agbonlahor. So impressive during Villa’s run at the end of last season, he has started the new campaign in stunning form and yet claims less than 2% FPL ownership.

Instrumental in the victory at the Emirates, it was his turn of pace and delivery that set up Benteke for his equaliser. Agbonlahor has scored five goals and earned four assists in his last ten league outings.

The Selection Poser

It’s hardly a poser. Jose Mourinho’s decision to start with Demba Ba and leave Romelu Lukaku shackled on the bench disappointed Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans alike. His introduction for the ineffective Ba on 65 minutes provided little consolation. Lukaku played fewer minutes than any other Chelsea striker in the double Gameweek, having looked primed to start the campaign following a convincing pre-season.

Mourinho’s reluctance to hand Lukaku a central role on the Premier League stage is a puzzle. Perhaps he will start at Old Trafford on Monday and face a defence which he terrified on the final day of last season at the Hawthorns. It’s unlikely to make a difference – Lukaku’s ownership and price look set to slide.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I currently have Giroud and Wally, who shall be for the chop next?
Or alternatively, shall I save my FT for the following week? Then I was thinking Giroud to Benteke or Wally to Silva.

looking at United's fixtures surrounding their CL games, I wouldn't be surprised to see some rotation around those matches considering most of the games before the CL game are at home and/or against easier opposition and most of the games after are away games and/or against tough opposition

    CPL, CL, mci

Up to you. It doesn't matter if you have Kolo, he's unrelated to the attack.
I have no issues with tripling up after watching the Stoke game, but you may not feel comfortable with that.
I can not justify another risk, the others are a major risk of rotation.

Very strong midfield. Nothing on the bench really but I'm guessing with that 11 they won't see much time anyway.

Not keen on Zaba AND Lescott, purely because you're doubling up on city and Lescott won't be a guarenteed starter once Nastasic is back.Personally I'd go for Coleman or Koscielny (when he's back).

Well, I took a -4 for Ivan & Lukaku -> Coleman + Sturridge, so I know where you're coming from. I justified it to myself by reckoning Ivan may be rotated with Azpil for MUN, Lukaku was dead to me as soon as I saw the teamsheet, and Hazard has been less than impressive. I think if you're going to take a -8, that's a pretty decent one. I'd like Zabaleta myself, Aguero looks good, not sold on Ben Arfa but others seem to like him, so I wouldn't lose too much sleep!

    Hi all,
Would appreciate any good advice here given my disaster of a start.
Just wondering for all you guru's out there whether my team has long term prospects or should I completely overhaul after the international break ?

    McGregor
    Chester, Baines, Toure, M Turner
    Snodgrass, Hazard, Coutinho
Van Persie (c), Soldado, Lambert (vc)

    Boruc, Kim, Jedinak, Baker

Had already used FT to dump Lukaku (before the price drop) for Lambert, and have 0.5m in the bank. Was thinking a -4 hit and change Snodgrass to Nolan.

    Thanks.

i think your team was great, no need to get a -4 hit.

Team looks decent enough, nothing a couple of transfers can't fix. Baines is a bit expensive for my liking when you can get Coleman for 2.5 less.

I wouldn't do the 4 pointer for Nolan

Yeah, probably a bit hasty with Snod.
Was thinking about Coleman but want to give Baines a few more weeks, his stats were not too bad for the game, just that coleman played a blinder.

        Cheers !

Stick tight with Snodgrass. I don't think you're in too bad shape tbh.

What's the deal with Given and Davis.

Had no GK play this week and still got 92 points

Given hasn't played for 2 seasons, he's not going to start now. Davis is not first choice.

Boruc and Mignolet both offer superb value.

Guzan and Boruc ahead of them.

Don't see either playing this season bar injury.

Probably already been pointed out/debated but just in case it's slipped through the net I'll mention it: Bonus points weren't allocated in line with BPS scores in 5 of the 11 matches this GW, affecting 11 players' scores. Have I misunderstood how bonus points work this season?

Nope. They changed it after without changing the points awarded. I lost a H2H as a result of an extra point for Coleman

I assume emails have been sent?

It doesn't directly affect any of my players or H2H results but it seems madness not to make corrections if they're plainly wrong.

I haven't because I'm lazy but I'm sure it's affected others with popular players like Zaba getting un warranted points. I'd almost prefer they waited until Monday to update the game properly before adding them. I lost 88-87 as well 🙁

What a joke. Awful system from top to bottom. And there's no point even having the bps update in real time if they aren't going to show how those bps are being earned.

I am guessing it was always Jose idea to start Lukaku vs United. A player who absolutely beast the United defence in a 5-5 scoreline isn't going to sit on the bench.
If this punt work I will consider myself a legend, if not.. Delete FPL account never to return...
