Liverpool find a familiar cutting edge. Hull’s deadball specialist provides the difference, while an array of doubts come creeping as teamsheets and pose early questions.

The Game Changer

Once again, Daniel Sturridge delivered the winner. Brendan Rodgers’ slick passing outfit failed to produce the volume of chances we saw in the opener against Stoke but it didn’t matter to Sturridge. He took his one major opportunity with typical aplomb and, sharing a pitch with Benteke and his bandwagon, gave us plenty of food for thought.

Two games, two goals and a record that now shows eight strikes in his last seven league outings: with Villa’s strikers starved in the opening period, then denied by Simon Mignolet in the second, Sturridge was left to underline his credentials as a striker option.

Benteke and Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado have tempted big investment, while Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has emerged as another potential prospect. Sturridge has to be added to that list of those contesting a spot in our forward lines and, with early season fitness doubts seemingly dispersed, he is perhaps presenting the strongest case of all.

The Underused

The search for a budget asset amongst the promoted teams was intense in the pre-season, with Robbie Brady’s name firmly in the mix. Despite the chatter, Brady attracted less than 1% of Fantasy Premier League managers and it was those select few who benefited from his winning spot-kick against Hull today. Brady epitomises a set-piece hogger: central to Hull’s free-kicks and on penalty duty, his delicious left-foot delivery will likely be key to their chances of survival over the season.

Is that enough to tempt investment? Today’s double figure returns should certainly bring him onto the radar for the masses and you have to wonder, while the likes of Ross Barkley and Pajtim Kasami continue to earn suitors in the budget bracket, whether Brady is the most convincing contender for that fifth midfield spot.

The Selection Poser

Uncertainty is building with the teamsheets still providing as many questions as answers.

Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne failed to earn an instant recall at St Mary’s only to emerge from the bench to replace recent bandwagon, Luke Shaw. The left-back was withdrawn having suffered further knee problems in the first half and could yet be an early concern for Gameweek 3.

Another popular budget purchase, the aforementioned Pajtim Kasami, was again deployed up in support of Dimitar Berbatov in today’s early kick-off. The 21-year-old attracted almost 90,000 new owners following his winner at Sunderland – can he really reward that investment? With Darren Bent off the mark from the bench and Bryan Ruiz in reserve, it looks highly unlikely.

Steven Whittaker earned a stay of execution in the Norwich lineup with Seb Bassong still absent, while team-mate Robert Snodgrass disappointed with just a single point return after being left benched by Chris Hughton. It could be very different tale for Snodgrass and Whittaker when the Canaries face Southampton next weekend, however.

Elsewhere, Kevin Mirallas was hauled off for the second match running having squandered further opportunities. It’s too early to get twitchy but the Belgian needs find an end product soon; it may not be long before Roberto Martinez starts to consider Arouna Kone for a role on the right of his three-man attack if chances go on being spurned.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Riquelme called him a Brazilian Frank Lampard. Maybe doesn't play high enough up the pitch but scored against that Mickey Mouse Europa team with a run from deep the other day. Might be worth a punt at 7.0 considering Spurs favourable fixtures for the next few gameweeks?

alright guys, any chance of some advice for gw3? not exactly off to a flyer:

    szczesny, (harper),
    ward, dawson, turner, chester, (ivanovic),
    silva, walcott, kim, grandin, (hazard),
    rvp, soldado, (anelka)

so i'm thinking in order to get any kind of respectable team out i need a -4 point hit:

    anelka to dzeko/bent
    hazard to nolan

    what do you reckon?

      Well, it's only GW2 but...

      Bale isn't playing.
      Michu is no longer OOP.
Mata no longer nailed on in the hole.
      Fellaini no longer OOP.
Walcott scored a bunch of his goals last year from OOP.

That's all or most of the really prolific mids from last season accounted for. It's more that last year's OOP mids offered ridiculous value, now they're back to normal. Couple that with how much the new baps system favours goalscorers and you have most of the value ripped out of the expensive mids.

    2. Anelka > Bent and M.Turner > Chester

    3. Anelka > Bent and Ivanovic > Coleman (banking the spare 0.8)

Howson is so frustrating. To be honest, when I saw him up close last season his touch wasn't that great, not as good as I wanted it to be. But he could be so class. It feels a bit like him and Tettey are weak links, unfortunately.

I don't suppose anyone noticed all the great defensive work Turner put in? I think Norwich will move up a gear when Bassong is back and Martin replaces Whittaker. Whittaker lost his place last Christmas so I can't see why people are thinking he's getting it back now over the club captain.

I would anticipate that Rogers will still build his team around Suarez, if he's there. Sturridge can play right and Aspas left. Suarez is one of the best half-dozen players in the world, so will likely be the focus. Though that said, I'm expecting Suarez is likely to be moving to Real Madrid, so this could all be moot anyway. Countinho should come good and Sturridge continues to be a great bet.

There aren't any mids at the moment to buy IMO. I'd say it's all about the forwards right now

:/ Well my forwards are fairly well set at the moment. I have Dzeko. Sturridge and Soldado. I'd trade out Dzeko if I thought he was going to get no game time, but he was MOTM last week so I think he'll get a decent amount of game time.

Am thinking Michu could be interesting

Facing the same problem with this lineup:

      Silva, Lamps, Hazard, Wally
      Giroud, Sturridge, Soldado

I am considering Lampard in for Hazard in the future, but not until after GW3.

But its still a crappy move as Hazard is bound to get going soon.

Still too early for anything right now, after just 2 GW's, nothing is really materializing, apart from BP magnet defenders and goalkeepers.

Its so bad at the moment really, especially when you see the likes of Kasami, Joe Cole and Barkley rising in price.

      Quite funny really.

Maybe trade out R. Morrison to a 5.5 midfielder if he isn't going to get a game? Otherwise Michu is on the radar.

As the Man City game is 1245 next week, will we have a better idea of who is starting before the deadline?

Sorry for the confusion in my last post, the 18.5 has to be a mid and a striker as its Benteke and Hazard who'll be moved out

Quite fancy Hazard > Brady because:
    It frees up cash
It gives Mirallas one more week
A future GW I can upgrade Kim and Lambert to Soldado/Sturridge and Countinho
    Brady should rise in price

I jerked like mad and sold Hazard to get Michu knowing I needed a non-chelsea mid to have a full team in GW3.
Got 2 Villa players and an Arsenal defender on bench for GW3 as London derby will be nuts. No clean sheets.

I have made an extra .3m so far and have 1m in bank so can always re-buy Hazard or whatever.

    Thoughts anyone?

Having watched both Liverpool games, I have to admit that Coutinho seems overpriced. I own him and I am looking to get rid now. He is hardly a goal threat - even when he takes shots towards goal, they are never threatening - he almost doesn't have enough power. Not on any set pieces. I do feel he may suffer from the Modric Syndrome of Slick Passing and Limited Fantasy Returns (MSSPLF) this season.

Think Paulinho is better value. People think he's a defensive mid, but he's really not. More of a central midfielder and does pop up with the goals now and again. Could be good value at £7.0m...

He wasn't at his best today, but Liverpool were rightly wary of Villa and went totally defensive after going 1-0 up so he didn't have much chance of doing anything anyway.

If I had him I would keep him for the next 3 (GW5 is Soton at home) and then decide.
