Sunday offers a couple of four o’clock encounters, with City facing a trip to newly promoted Cardiff, alongside a lip-smacking encounter between Europa League rivals, Tottenham and Swansea at the Lane.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be looking to build on the fine 4-0 win over Newcastle on Monday to inflict a second defeat on new boys Cardiff. Malky MacKay’s outfit failed to make an impression on the West Ham defence on the opening day but may fancy their chances against a City side without the services of skipper Vincent Kompany.

In North London, Swansea will arrive having suffered a 4-1 home defeat to champions United but boosted by their midweek Europa League victory which saw them put five past their Romanian opponents. They’ll meet a Spurs side also buoyed by five goals in Europe and looking to add to their three points gained at Palace last weekend, a victory that came courtesy of Roberto Soldado’s cooly taken spot-kick. All eyes will be on the Spaniard today as he sports the Fantasy armband for many.

The team news is in and as is follows:

Manuel Pellegrini makes just one change to the team that swept aside Newcastle on Monday evening. The City boss brings in Javi Garcia for the injured Vincent Kompany at the back and keeps faith in Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero up top, with Alvaro Negredo warming the bench once again. Matija Nastasic is fit enough for the subs bench as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

The Bluebirds also make just a single alteration to last week’s team. Andrew Taylor returns at left-back after serving a one-match suspension, with Declan Jon dropping out. Fraizer Campbell leads the line again, though new boy Andreas Cornelius makes the bench after an ankle complaint.

At White Hart Lane, Andre Villas-Boas rolls out a 4-3-3 and hands Etienne Capoue a first start for the hosts alongside Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in central midfield, as Gylfi Sigurdsson shifts to the bench. Andros Townsend replaces the injured Aaron Lennon on the right after impressing in the midweek Europa League win over Dinamo Tblisi.

Michael Laudrup makes a couple of alterations from the side that started against Man United last week. Fit-again Jonathan de Guzman and Pablo Hernandez replace Leon Britton and Nathan Dyer, with the latter remaining sidelined with a hamstring complaint. Michu leads the line again with Jonjo Shelvey ion “the holeâ€, meaning Wilfried Bony warms the bench once more for the Swans.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and available throughout today’s games for those in search of some real-time chatter as events unfold.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Soldado has been pretty unspectacular but brings in consistent points. Captained him today.

Annoyed that the first per wasn't given, but the second was soft so swings and roundabouts.

Spurs won't get a penalty every week.
They need to link up better with Soldado.
I'm worried, but will give it a couple of more weeks.

    New wilcarded team, opinions?

    Jääskeläinen (Boruc)
    Coleman-Toure-Collins (Fonte, Ward)
    Michu-Walcott-Nolan-Taarabt (Delph)
    RvP-Dzeko-Sturridge

Im pretty happy with it, but Taarabt is concerning me a little. Great player but might easily get overshadowed by Berbatov and new boy Bent. Good chances for assists tho?

Dzeko won't start every week and when he does is most likely to not play the full 90.
I wouldn't have both Collins and Jaas.
Michu yet to hit the heights of last season maybe better alternatives with them also playing most Thursdays now.
Taarabt, im in the same situation need a mid priced midfielder but he can be very hit & miss so whether you want to take the gamble or not.

Im aware of Dzeko's situation but it looks as he is Pellegrini's number 1 man and with that kind price im having hard time passing the deal. Also City has very kind fixtures coming up. They wont fail again like they did today. I think now it's a great time to get Michu, two hard fixtures are history and it is much easier from now on. Also he has looked very dangerous and fit in the first two games. He will start to deliver for sure.

        Jaas who?

        Thanks for input

After the matches so far, I find it hard to justify having two big hitters in midfield when the money can be spent having THREE big strikers, (such as RVP, Negredo, Soldado) up top.

At the moment at least, this 'formula' seems logical:

MIDS: 1 Big hitter (9.5 or below), 2 Mid-priced guys (7.5 or below) and two cheapies (5.5 or below)

FORWARDS: 3 Big hitters (RVP etc. etc.) 🙂

Would you agree that this could potentially be a very rewarding strategy?

          Your team for GW3 looks:

          Boruc
Zab Ward Murner (maybe Toure for one of those)
          Coutinho Walcott Mirallas Jedinak
          Lambert Soldado Dzeko

And you still have a transfer to do Hazard/Coutinho -> Silva if you want more City exposure. It's not worth a wildcard to change.

As an Arsenal fan I really am not worried about Spurs this season if they keep their squad as it is plus Lamela and someone else. They have won both of their games through penalties and they simply aren't going to get a penalty every week. They have lacked creativity and have tried to replicate Bale through Townsend by allowing him to continuously take shots from a silly range.
