Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This is my "Sleeping Giants" team, i.e. the team I'd love to pick if my pills were a little larger:

I did Hazard > Silva before Silva rose to 9.2. I was looking for replacements but could not find a better option. Silva is not a great option in my mind, but he is a good fixture, reasonable form, and a price rise. Felt boring.

i was really counting on a mid priced 6.5 midfielder to emerge from NEW/NOR/WBA to emgerg. by this week, but no one has.

Plan was Haz>6.5 Benteke >RVP but no i do not know.

    Morning dzzz

My current mid: Wally hazard coutinho miralas kim...looking for a hazard rep upto 6.3

    Wittingham:
    - good on set pieces, gametime risk, creates chances but I already have kim for Cardiff

    Brady:
    - on pens and oop for a team that looked good. Doesn't rotate well with kim and isn't good enuough to play week in week out for me

    Barkley:
    - looks really good, gametime risk? I can bring him in but will end up with both miralas and kim for two weeks atleast as I am getting rvp next gw. Everto a next two fix aren't brilliant

    Morrison (WBA)
    - very good player, secure but doesn't always play in the hole. Has 3 decent fixtures before fixtures tank. WBA look dire though for attacking terms. Impact of Sinclair?

    Lallana:
    - their cpt so minimal gametime risk, is always involved In attacking areas of the pitch, good fixtures. But I have lambert so mhaving two saints attackers mayb and overkill

    Sissoko:
    - haven't seen any Newcastle games this year so hard to judge but the team looks in bad shape despite dectm fixtures.

    Tarabt:
    - great fixtures, started both game So far but is there gametime risk? Has the goal threat as opposed to just an assist threat so more suited to new baps system

    Hernandez:
    - plays for a good team and fixtures are improving. Minimal gametime risk I think as only other wingers are dyer and Rutledge who I think are inferior to him. Had decent returns last year

    Jarvis:
    - assist based player, good fixtures till gw6, minimal gametime risk.

    Conclusion:
    - if I go for someone like Barkley/koren, allows me to upgrade lambert to giroud/bony
    - if I go for someone like Jarvis, allows me to upgrade my 4.5m def >> kolo
    - leaning towards going for a 6m mid who will play most weeks for me. Leaning towards Pablo

    A. Cant believe I moved from 10 to 1. in minileague, thanx to the no RVP strategy.

    B. The decision to have or not to have is becoming more difficult. At times Rooney played in very advanced positions in the match yesterday This could kill his total point haul-my self I believe if this is the trend, it defo will.

    C. However, I am concerned when RVP is scoring braces week in week out from game four with people giving him the armband and other potential captains hitting two pointers in easy home matches.

    D. The decision between having or not having him might greatly influence league rankings.

Comment, critique, and discuss. Its long so you can choose the points to talk about.

I think it comes down to how confident you are in picking your captain. If you pick one of your highest scoring players constantly then RVP won't be worth it, but if you often pick incorrectly and need that sure bet then captaining RVP virtually every week will justify his price in my opinion.

I'll keep a lookout for him. Spurs are away to Arsenal next week though, which I don't fancy 🙁

Paulinho is a decent option. He seemed to play more upfield and took a few shots as well.

There supposed to be 6 bonus points awarded, yet due to the new system, 13 were awarded last night.

I don't think they thought this through!

It would be nice if they had some system to break ties between players.

They should use the PPI to break the ties. The system is here for the season though, so we may as well get used to it and use it to our advantage

It just seems silly that in a tame 0-0, defenders are getting unfairly rewarded.

I know it wasn't intended that way, but that's how it is working out.

          how is that unfairly rewarded?
both teams did well defensively, well disciplined, strong in the air, great positioning, you don't think that should be rewarded?

Just had a little play with a starting XI I could field if I WC next week,

    De Gea
    Toure - Zabaleta - Terry - Vidic
    Lampard - Michu - Walcott
    Sturridge - Benteke - Soldado

    Not bad eh?

      I prefer this one:

      mig
      terry toure dawson coleman
      silva walcott lamps paulinho
      sturrige benteke soldado

can go 433, 442, or 343 every week.

        I like this:

        Boruc / Davis
        Chester / Williams / Coloccini / Toure / Reid
Michu / Walcott / Silva / Rotating Cheapies
        Benteke / RVP / Lambert

Can downgrade a 5.0 midfielder to upgrade Boruc if desired.

I went down 400k places last night on account of having no players in either team. Damn this new bonus system!

Mirallas, Coutinho and Walcott not performing, more cleansheets than you can shake a stick at, I am left hoping that Ben Arfa will step up in the next few gameweeks. Judging by his performance against West Ham, he has taken over the "Row Z" mantle from Bobby Z.

    Wildcard incoming!

Will Midfielders ever start to score?

I'm frustrated see my FPL Pupil (his debut season) doing extra ordinary with defending line up such as
    Ivanovic-Cole-Walker-Baines-Collins & Mignolet in Goal 😯

    What's happening this season!
