With the Man City defence breached at Cardiff and Nikica Jelavic drawing a blank at home to West Brom, it was left to David Silva to bring in the points from last weekโ€™s picks. Even so, after a disappointing Gameweek, weโ€™re looking for a much-needed return to form as we scour the PlayON price list in search of some weekend bargains.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a seasoned player, read on for our selection of early weekend targetsโ€ฆ

Gameweek 3 Player Picks

Goalkeeper โ€“ Boaz Myhill
Even with a clean sheet at Goodison last time out, the PlayON pricing algorithm has priced the West Brom rearguard rather kindly for their home fixture with Swansea. You can pick up Gareth McAuley cheaply (8.4m) in defence but Myhill in goal is even more of a bargain. Available for just 7.4m, he looks assured of his start following Ben Fosterโ€™s foot injury and will face a Swansea side at the Hawthorns thatโ€™s scored just a single goal so far this term.

Defender โ€“ Matija Nastasic
PlayON managers can take advantage of the early kick-off here. While Nastasic is far from certain to line up in the City defence at home to Hull, we should have the teamsheets early enough (you can make changes to your PlayON team right up to 12.35 tomorrow) to allow us to be certain and perhaps take advantage of his PlayON price of just 7.3m. Despite being exposed by Cardiff last weekend, the City defence at the Etihad is a different beast and well worthy of that level of investment. While Nastasic looks a steal, have a โ€œPlan Bโ€ at the ready if you have to swap him out when the teamsheet arrives.

Midfielder โ€“ Craig Gardner
Paolo Di Canio immediately recalled Gardner to his Black Catsโ€™ lineup for the trip to Southampton following his suspension. The all-action midfielder can be snapped up on PlayON for just 6.6m and looks a likely starter for the trip to Selhurst Park. Gardner loves a tackle so should collect points from defensive actions and is more than partial to a shot from distance. With Stephane Sessegnon reportedly left out of the Black Cats squad this weekend, Gardner could even be pushed up behind a lone striker in a 4-4-1-1.

Forward โ€“ Olivier Giroud
Once again, this is the most vital and, subsequently, trickiest area to find a bargain. PlayONโ€™s forward prices look tighter going into this weekend and Arsenalโ€™s Olivier Giroud is the first name to grab us as a potential bargain โ€“ although youโ€™ll need to shell out 11.4m to acquire him. Even so, with three goals to his name so far this season and Lukas Podolski ruled out, the Frenchman looks an assured starter in the North London derby: an encounter that is traditionally flooded with goals.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly fantasy football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can change your team as many times as you like before the Live Matchday kicks-off โ€“ 12.35 tomorrow) you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, youโ€™ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge another player to a one-on-one game, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for ยฃ1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 67% win rate: we took a beating last week so this is a chance to kick us while we’re down.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a ยฃ2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for free bragging rights or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Hi Demi,
We are working on this and hoping to have it live within the next 4 weeks. As we are a gambling business it takes a bit longer to get set up than a traditional retail website. We will let you know once this is set up as a lot of our customers are asking about depositing through alternative methods - PayPal, Neteller etc.

Thanks Kingston - we really appreciate that.
We set out a couple of years ago to create the ultimate fantasy football experience and this is only the beginning in our view - we want to build the best experience possible and to always be improving it over time.
We have listened to what people say they want and we are always very interested in getting feedback on what is missing currently and what features people would like added in the future - the more critical the feedback the better in our view.
Feel free to post suggestions here or email them to info@playon.co.uk and we will pick them up and get working on them.
Thanks again for the positive feedback

2 is a poor move. 1 is a 4pt hit to give a bit more security if Shaw does not start so might just be worth it. At best it is borderline.

I find it strange that the British seem to write it off as a competition - most of the rest of Europe are still interested in it. Afterall it is a European trophy, and if you do well the same amount of European club coefficient points are available giving you a higher seeding the next time you play in the CL.

In a week where I have so many defenders possibly not playing, conflicting reports like this do my "Will Rat play/not play" dilemma no good whatsoever:

"Aiden McGeady,Sean St Ledger and Joey O'Brien have withdrawn from the Irish squad to face Sweden and Austria through injury"

"Sam Allardyce indicates Alou Diarra is the only new injury worry for West Ham this weekend"

On a WC and strongly considering a one week punt on Negredo before swapping for Benteke. Probably won't captain him though.

Long term it's tricky pin pointing the right Citeh defender:

      Nastasic for price
Kompany for nailedonessness (and could be cheaper than Zab when he gets back)
      Zabaleta for attacking threat

seriously after Stramaccioni is gone and with that idiot Palacio leading such a great club i can't see them finisshing in top 3

they scored 2 against Genoa-possibly the club in the worst in Itali and that's fact

    Just out of interest, would you be in favour of;

    1. The Champions League only being open to CHAMPIONS again?

    2. The Europa being straight knockout tournament like the UEFA Cup was?

    3. The 3 foreigner rule being brought back into European football?

I would say yes to all 3.
1 and 3 in particular. They made wee teams winning possible.

      yes to the first 2.
For no.3 this rule is still in place with respect to non-EU players. You couldn't have it the old way though as it would be illegal under European law.

No to No1...Look at what Liverpool had to do to win the European cup in '77....It was a Mickey Mouse tournament by comparison to now

No2 Yes....far too big a tournament for what is basically a second best competition

No 3.....Absolutely no way...I've been going to footy since the late sixties and i can promise you English football...even if it is only majority is rubbish when played without foreign players...Shocking idea..(((shudders)))

If I had RVP i would give him the armband every week to get full value out of the 14 mil spent.

If you did that last year you would have got 624 points from him alone over the season

Very True but RVP is playing against Liverpool who have kept clean sheets for the past two match. No doubt that he has the quality to score but i dont think he might get more than a goal. However Agrueo started both gameweeks,he played well and he is playing against Hull in his home so he has the potential to score a hat trick or even more.

Surprised to see Gardner in the FFS team predictions for Sunderland and now also in the PLayon picks. He more than likely will not start....he was very poor against S'ton last week. Wickham turned the game on its head the other night so reckon he'll be replacement for Sess.
