Last week we updated the Fantasy Football Scout “Hall of Fame” or “HoF”. You can access this via the HOF tab at the top of the site or via this page.

The Hall of Fame is a ranking system which we apply to everyone in our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-leagues – both the free and the members league. In a nutshell it tracks the performances of every manager over each of the seasons they have participated and awards a “HoF rating” accordingly.

The “HoF Rating” is based on points scores from previous FPL campaigns, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous year. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2013/13 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2006/07. The “HoF Rating” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allocate managers a rank alongside the veterans of the FPL. It’s not a guaranteed way of identifying the best FPL managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Leagues, but we think it’s pretty good at identifying those who have displayed good consistency.

We generate two separate tables in the Hall of Fame. The “Career” table that updates every year and a “Live” table that will be updated using the latest season data, after every Gameweek. Everyone can see the “Career” table via the link but Fantasy Football Scout members also get to see a live table via the Members Area which inludes current 2013/14 points totals in the table and takes these into account when calculating the HoF rating. This can be more than a little bit helpful and reassuring in that, using the team ids in the table, you can examine the squads and transfer activity of some of the top FPL managers.

For example, Career Hall of Fame leader, Ulrik Nylund is clearly a hugely successful FPL boss, having masterminded three top 200 finishes in six seasons. Indeed, Ulrik is yet to finish outside of the top 8000 in any of those seasons – an incredible level consistency. Interestingly, however, he’s currently sitting on 179 points and is ranked just inside the top 300,000. Having said that, his wildcard is currently active, perhaps reflecting his start to the campaign.

If you want to get yourself in the Hall of Fame, simply sign up to our leagues, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League (1580-1106), or if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code is available on the dashboard of the Members Area. You will be entered and visible on the table once the next Gameweek deadline passes and FPL leagues are updated.

For more information on how the Hall of Fame works, view the movie below in which I talk through the tables with its creator, “Professor” Chris Atkinson.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Therefore...

      Walcott Giroud Benteke Koscienly Mignolet

because he will falter sometimes, can't captain him every game. if one of your other players feels like the better captaincy option you can't blindly stick with RVP

lets see... bet365 offers u odds of 1.18 for Man u to win and 1.66 for Arsenal to win

          Arsenal won sunderland in 3 of the past 5 head-up ... 0:1 , 1:2 , 1:2 , 0:0 and 2:0

doesn look that high scoring to me.

U can go with ur gut .. but if u want a decent rank.. you should go with the odds

thanks for that research, will take it on board. the thing with that it doesn't fully take into account how terrible sunderland are and how big a high arsenal are on atm after the signing of ozil. RVP was terrible against liverpool, i'd argue giroud is on better form

they both are good buys.. but why take the 4 point hit, you could do Navas > Walcott and save you 4 point hit ?

fair enough. do you think arsenal sunderland will be a tight game then? i can't help but feel that with di canio's public rants about his players combined with a rejuvenated arsenal on form and with ozil; that arsenal will rip through them. maybe i've over-thought it

I just feel that if one of them does well, i won't miss out on not captaining them. Having both means i can hedge my bets with the captain. Also Benteke @ home is a factor.

Sunderland are in a very unfavourable position now in the league, they might continue their slump or play better.

      Benteke.

BTW, I think it is perfectly reasonable to captain whoever you think will score well in your team whether you have RVP or not. Just because it 'seems' an easy fixture doesn't mean he'll score big. You might want to captain him when he plays vs Chelsea next because you get the feeling he will score big.
My advice (from someone ranked below 5K on the HoF) is to take it on a week to week basis as to who you think will score most.

What annoys me vehemently is that although you think FPL is the best format of FF on the planet, you fail to recognize that it is fundamentally flawed.

You can have the best player on the pitch receive minimal points because he did not endear himself to a flawec BAPS system operated by FPL.

I will give one example of a stand out player ( Huddlestone for Hull). This guy as a standout player in his team is fairly unrecognized in terms of points but should be. There are many others i.e Arteta for Ars. last season.

FPL is disjointed as are the new BAPS this season they do not recognize what we are all trying to predict=The Best Football Players in a given match.

Also other formats of the game do the same like Man Of The Match in the SKY game. Total BS!! sometimes.

So get off your high horse OK.

I actually think the old "man in the stand" system was better for baps. OK, there were a few dodgy decisions but at least most of the baps went to those that deserved them.

The current situation, imho, is a societal one. The government and just about every other area of society is obsessed with targets and thus statistics rather than applying common sense to individual situations simply because it's cheaper to do so. Unfortunately, most of the public fall for this 🙁

Only a few dodgy decisions? I seem to recall there were dodgy decisions on a weekly basis with the man in the stand.

Whatever the shortcomings of the new system, at least it has transparency on its side, and in my view that puts it head and shoulders above the other systems we have had to endure.

Remember also it's a new system; I am sure they will recognise the flaws and adjust accordingly for next season.

I disagree. Was Charlie Adam really good for his 45 baps that season? That's only 4 baps less than RVP got last season, despite Adam scoring only 12 goals compared to RVP's 26 goals.

Yes he was. In most of the games he played he was the best player by far, He was inspirational. That is what baps should be about, not just given for goals, cs's and the occasional assist. This is exactly what is wrong with the current situation imho.

Dont cry, They are trying new systems each time and will keep improving until they reach a point where the majority are happy with it. Its not easy to keep all 2 million players happy you know. Cut them some slack. Its a free game that is trying to improve year upon upon, play and enjoy

If no-one complains, especially when changes are wrong, nothing will ever get better.

If they weren't aware of it being such a big problem, do you think they've had 3 different bonus systems in 3 years on a whim?

Don't be silly. I know they're trying to get it right but they've moved in the wrong direction and made it worse. If we don't complain then we'll end up with something worse.

This makes as much sense as asking Michael Owen to pick Man Of The Match.

you've just got to adapt your team to the various formats of the
different FF games, each one has its flaws
personally i'm not a fan of the new BAPS system but saying that
the opening games on the whole have been low scoring affairs
which may be giving a slightly false reading

My point is that FPL and there players do not entertain the best system in rewarding outstanding performances in any particular game. It is flawed.

Walker...do the player comparison between Walker/Zaba/Johnson...He's looking good and the stats are backing it up...just need a few points now..
