Robin Van Persie scores twice as Holland ease past Andorra. Shinji Kagawa reveals his frustration at a lack of game time for United, Roberto Soldado is amongst the goals for Spain, Theo Walcott limps off with a knock for England, while Eden Hazard looks on course to recover from an Achilles problem in time for Chelsea’s trip to Everton:

Van Persie Bags a Brace

After failing to score in each of his last couple of league encounters, Robin Van Persie’s Fantasy owners will be eagerly anticipating this weekend after he grabbed both Holland’s goals against Andorra to take his tally to three over the international break.

The Scout Says: Despite a home encounter with Palace this Saturday, Van Persie has been slow to attract new owners after a pair of frustrating displays against Chelsea and Liverpool, where he failed to register a single shot on target. With his eye for goal restored once again, there’s no doubt he’ll be heading into Saturday’s deadline as the most-captained option across the Fantasy games, with a huge majority of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players handing him the armband against an Eagles side yet to keep out their opponents this term. Although Wayne Rooney is hopeful of a return for the Gameweek 5 Manchester derby, he is set to miss out against Ian Holloway’s side, making the Dutchman’s contribution all the more crucial for the under-fire David Moyes this weekend. With home games against West Brom, Southampton and Stoke, allied with a trip to out-of-sorts Sunderland in the next six, Van Persie could barely be handed a kinder set of fixtures as he returns to the domestic stage with confidence renewed.

Kagawa Admits Moyes Frustration

Shinji Kagawa continued to impress on the international stage yesterday by grabbing a goal in Japan’s 3-1 win over Ghana. The United midfielder lasted 85 minutes before making way and, having provided an assist in a win over Guatemala on Friday, has earned praise for his recent performances, despite a lack of domestic action this term. After the game, however, it was Kagawa’s comments to the press on his limited game time under United’s new manager that hogged the headlines:

“Please ask David Moyes why I’m not in the side. It is frustrating not playing but to score a goal like that gives me confidence. Hopefully I can take that back to my club with me and things will improve. It’s hard not playing regularly. Some days the frustration is worse than others; it comes in waves. So it’s nice to come back to Japan and get to play, and to score felt good. I just have to keep working hard and keep pushing for my chance. When I get back it will be a challenge to get into the team. When I get back to my club I have to wait for my chance in the Champions League and the Premier League. I’m sure my chance will come.”

The Scout Says: Bearing in mind Kagawa has a long-haul flight back from Japan and United’s weekend match with Palace is Saturday’s early lunchtime kick-off, there’d be no real surprise if Moyes once again left him out of his line-up, with jet-lag playing a part this time. Yet to play a single minute in the league, the Japan star was omitted from the squad altogether for the Gameweek 3 trip to Liverpool – all the more baffling when his manager has complained of a lack of creativity amongst his charges. With United then facing three crucial games against Bayer Leverkusen, City and Liverpool across a trip of different competitions, it’s perhaps questionable whether Moyes will be prepared to take a risk and hand Kagawa the opportunity as he looks to return to winning ways after a patchy start to his time in charge at Old Trafford.

Soldado in the Goals for Spain

Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado warmed up for a favourable run of fixtures by notching for Spain in last night’s 2-2 draw with Chile. The forward was given a 66-minute run-out before being replaced by City’s Alvaro Negredo, while another Etihad new boy, Jesus Navas, grabbed a late equaliser after climbing off the bench at the break.

The Scout Says: Yet to score from open play in the league this term, the former Valencia man has, nonetheless, grabbed four goals in four starts for Spurs since arriving at the Lane this summer. Despite a disappointing blank in the north London derby, Soldado still looks firmly on form and with new boys Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela poised to be handed their first starts at home to Norwich on Saturday, the Spain forward could be set to pick apart the Canaries as he looks ahead to a schedule that also includes home games against West Ham and Hull and trips to Cardiff and Villa in the next six.

Mixed News for Wenger

Fantasy managers will be eagerly awaiting news from the Emirates after a couple of midfielders were subbed off for their national sides last night. Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky both picked up knocks but while Rosicky looks to have sustained a thigh problem, Walcott’s withdrawal seemed no more than precautionary ahead of the weekend’s trip to Sunderland, with journalists suggesting he ”is okay”. Elsewhere, German pair Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil grabbed a goal apiece in an easy win over the Faroe Islands, while Laurent Koscielny also reminded us of his attacking potential by supplying an assist in France’s away win over Belarus.

The Scout Says: The arrival of Ozil clearly nudges Rosicky down the pecking order making the Czech midfielder’s absence less of an issue, while Walcott’s owners will be optimistic by the fact he played on for several minutes following a hefty challenge. Arsenal’s trip to Wearside this weekend is the start of a run which pits them against only two of last term’s top six in the upcoming 11 Gameweeks – Walcott looks set to rack up the points over that run, though any absence could see more managers turn to Ozil as a Gunners midfield alternative

Midfield Worries Ease for Mourinho

According to reports in The Mail, Eden Hazard is in the frame for Chelsea’s trip to Goodison on Saturday evening. The winger limped out of training for Belgium with an Achilles problem last week and failed to play any part in the win over Scotland but has responded positively to treatment, with a national team doctor suggesting there is “no reason” why he won’t be back in full training for the Blues.

The Scout Says: With Jose Mourinho slow to hand Juan Mata game time this term, Hazard’s security of starts has persuaded 23.7% of FPL managers to snap up his services; the most popular midfielder in the game, despite a recent price drop down to 9.3. With Fulham, Norwich and Cardiff in three of the four fixtures directly after the Goodison encounter, many will be eyeing up Chelsea’s options, with Oscar also back on the radar after recovering from an ankle knock to feature as a sub for Brazil in last night’s win over Portugal.

Marshall Worry for Cardiff

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is awaiting prognosis on keeper David Marshall after the Bluebirds number one was forced off with a hip problem during Scotland’s win in Macedonia last night.

The Scout Says: An ever-present for the Welsh outfit last term, Marshall registered his first clean sheet of the season against Everton last weekend and with a schedule that pits him against Hull, Fulham and Newcastle in the next four, could be poised for further returns. Any length of absence may see Joe Lewis handed a chance to deputise – the latter, at 4.0 in FPL, would be the cheapest playing keeper in the game, though centre-half Ben Turner is similarly priced and has played every minute under Mackay so far.

O’Shea Ankle Concern for Black Cats

Sunderland are awaiting news on the ankle injury sustained by John O’Shea in the Republic of Ireland’s loss to Austria last night. The defender was subbed off just four minutes into the second period with the problem as his nation’s prospects of reaching next year’s World Cup all but ended in Vienna.

The Scout Says: The Black Cats skipper is, of course, suspended for this week’s clash with Arsenal but a possible lengthy absence will be a real concern to Paolo Di Canio. Having been publicly critical of O’Shea’s display against Palace in the previous Gameweek, Di Canio has since apologised and patched things up ahead of a schedule which also sees the Wearsiders face Liverpool, United and Swansea in the next five. With Wes Brown still sidelined by a knee problem, Di Canio is likely to turn to Modibo Diakite and Valentin Roberge at centre-half but with such a tough run of games, Fantasy faith in the Black Cats will be minimal at best

Hate this bloody reply system , on phone you have to expand it first to actually hit it properly....
Otherwise your highlighting it to flag/show replies.
Old way was better with ease to reply and see replies .

We are going to be working on a mobile version of the site during the season - it's the major task on the list after the matchday comments are sorted. When we work on that, we'll look at optimising HC for mobile devices. I'm not sure what can be done before that to be honest - focus is on matchday comments right now but I'll raise it and see if we can tweak in the short-term.

Lukaku is a major threat, hopefully create some more room for Mirallas. Also Lukaku isn't bad at linking up, could see Mirallas getting some more passes/through balls in dangerous areas. For now though, we won't know but I'm holding on to him and hoping for the best.

Apologies for lengthy post - My scores for the England players last night - see if you agree.

Hart 6 - began shakily, reflecting his recent poor form but grew in stature during game and was able to punch away a dangerous cross and catch a few others to take pressure off defence

Walker 4 - Poor, bad positioning, rash in the challenge, he wasnt given a lot of support from Walcott but he looked out of his depth, Jones, Johnson and even Micah Richards would all be a better pick at RB

Cahill - 8 Strong in the air, covered well, made vital interceptions, very good performance and always a threat at set pieces.

Jagielks - 7 Confident, also good in the air and was in charge of the back 4 when he needed to be.

Cole - 6 Not his best game in an England shirt but did ok, not helped much by Milner ahead of him

Lampard - 7 Fantastic occasion for him but not his best performance, didnt do a lot wrong though and could have won it nr the end with an instinctive header

Gerrard - 8 Good performance as usual from the captain.

Wilshere - 6 Had a few moments of promise but gave the ball away far too often and turned into trouble as often as he turned away from it. Needs to develop his goalscoring insticts and there are still nagging questions over his fitness.

Walcott - 6 Had an early chance but unable to capitalise on it. He didnt use his pace again against a veteran fullback who he had the beating of surely. Frustrating performance as he has the talent but is he lacking in composure and intelligence to see what he needs to do - even so why arent coaches drumming it into him. Frustrating.

Lambert - 6 Had a decent if unspectacular first half but was not given much if any service in the 2nd half. A good option for England as that traditional English CF who will trouble defences of the smaller nations. Has a good chance of gooing to world cup if England get there.

Milner - 5 Average as usual, ran around a lot (which is generally the praise reserved for a player lacking in skill/technical ability.) not his fault that he was picked and did what the manager asked (assume that was run around a bit) but he was part of the reason England looked completely toothless going forward.

      Subs

Young 3 Gave the ball away pretty much everytime he got it. Has gone backwards since his move to Utd. So 1 dimensional as a player. Not good enough for England if the team wants to make an impact at a tournament.

Cleverley - 5 didnt get long, didnt do much (as usual) - another player who has gone backwards in the last couple of years at Utd. Cant pass, tackle or score - not sure what else he can do.

Overall - Negative tactics and performance by England against a team that looked distinctly average defensively but the result was the minimum expected and keeps us top of the group. They had pace on the wings that we needed to be aware of but if we want to do anything when it comes to major tournaments we need to be beating teams like Ukraine even in their back yard (which was nowhere near as inimidating as it could have been.)

People are put off Redmond because he "has horrible fixtures", but if you look at how he rotates with Brady:

CAR, AV, WHAM, AV, ever, CAR, SUN, WHAM, PAL, PAL...

It looks great. That's the pair I'm on at the moment

Not nailed on, although I think he has a chance of securing a place. Others on here give him no chance since Everton signed Barry and McCarthy, and Gibson will be fit again imminently.

I got him at £4.5m so I'll be keeping but bringing him in at his current price might not be smart.

Baker has all the footballing talent of...well, a baker. I think he's craptacular, but you never know with Lambert.

I'm torn on this issue - when there's a clean sheet, defenders will reap the rewards in terms of BPs. But, as you say, once the goals start flowing, that's a riskier proposition.

My approach currently is to have 3 big defenders who will attract BPs when there's a clean sheet, and one lesser defender from a team who could keep clean sheets. I'm hoping this gives me flexibility to shift between 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 as and when the fixtures dictate..

Tried to balance the defenders who will get attacking points (AP) and bonus points (BP)
In brackets is what I think they're most likely to get:

Vidic (BP) Zaba (AP) Coleman (AP) Walker (AP) Burner (BP but bench fodder)

Zaba, Wlaker and Coleman are practically MIDS in how far forward they have been playing.
Think the arguement can be made that a 4-3-3 could work for now.

Good. Only doubt for me is Coutinho - I know he may possibly be moving into the hole, but I personally am taking a wait-and-see approach. If he emerges, then that solves the injury worries/Suarez threat with Sturridge. But for now, I'll stick with Sturridge's form.

Thanks for the feedback, originally had Sturridge for Negredo but he's a doubt at the moment and think Rogers may choose to rest him now Liverpool have extra cover in midfield which would allow Aspas to move in off the wing for a game or 2.

      a) Toure, b) Walcott, c) Sturridge, d) Silva, e) Williams.

Can anyone give me any injury updates on these? Will they play? cheers.

Somebody from the England staff tweeted last night that Walcott is fine.

a will probably play this weel but longer term his place is at risk from Sakho
        b & c will almost certainly play
d might not play. Not a serious injury but CL game coming up
e is definitely out as far as I understand

Hmmm, not sure at all about Lamps - he's a riddle I can't crack. Logic says he that at his age ought to get a rest here and there, especially with CL coming up. Jose said as much. But he hasn't so far 🙂

If your squad can cope with Silva being out for a week, I personally wouldn't lose him for a hit.

All have a good chance of starting, you even sure Walcott is injured I'm not. Silva is I'd think is less likely as City have a big squad so dont need to force it.

I know this is dragging on but after all the RVP talk I'm finding it hard to justify him.
The difference in the team is becoming more apparent.
      With:
      Migs/ Davies
      Coleman/ Vidic/ Collins/ Burner/ Chester
      Wally/ Couti / Hernandez/ Redmond JWP
      Giroud/ Soldado/ RVP

      Without:
      Migs/ Davies
      Coleman/ Vidic/ Zaba/ Walker/ Burner
      Wally/ Couti/ Hernandez/ Ramsey/ Brady
      Giroud/ Bentek (or Studge)/ Soldado

        If you play 3-4-3
Only difference is Collins and Redmond.
Vs. Zaba&Ramsey. I wouldnt pick Ramsey anyway, he'll find it harder to get in now with Ozil, Wilshere, Cazorla, Flamini. He has been playing well though.

Like the backline. I've had my eye on Vidic once their fixtures ease up a bit. As a Spurs fan, I'm slightly concerned about Soldado - he's feeding on scraps right now. If Spurs sort out their attacking shape he could explode.

Think i've finally finally cracked my WC...

      Mignolet, Boruc

      Collins, Chester, Coleman, Ivanovic, Zabaleta

      Walcott Eriksen HBA Hernandez JWP

      Giroud Welbeck Benteke

(3.2m in bank to upgrade Welbeck to Suarez when he becomes available) what we reckon lads?

So come GW6 or so, you'll have no attacking coverage from Man U, Man City or Chelsea? and only new-boy Eriksen from Spurs (ok, that makes sense).

The weird thing is - it sort of makes sense. Chelsea too volatite. Man Utd have RVP or no one. Man City rotating and lacking a cutting edge at present..

The two in form strikers are Benteke and Giroud...

Well, you've talking me around. Not sure about HBA.

          That's what i was thinking...

Man Utd - RVP or no-one (unless Nani-wagon starts and it shouldn't be too dificult to upgrade HBA to Nani if needs be)

Man City - No idea what goes through Pelligrinis head - hope that Zaba will provide enough City coverage long term.

Chelsea - Same with City, hoping Ivanovic can provide a little attacking threat + cleanies. Oscar, Hazard, Torres, Eto'o, Mata, Lampard, Bruyne - it's literally a lottery on who goes the goal and assist.

          Spurs - I'm a spurs fan, so i don't mind if Soldado destroys and i don't have him 🙂

For those interested, have sent a pretty clear message to FPL regards their incorrect placement of Danny Rose as a mid. Very curious as to how they will respond.
