With the mind-numbing international break out of the way, all eyes turn to the Premier League to assess whether any of the glittering new signings are worth a gamble on their debuts. Fantasy managers have so much to anticipate in Gameweek 4 – not least the damage that Robin van Perise can do in the early kick-off. Let’s cast an eye over Paddy Power’s assessment of the Dutchman, this week’s other likely scorers and the clean sheet hunt.

According to the traders in Power Tower, United are all set to rip into Crystal Palace. There are four of David Moyes’ squad in the top ten anytime scorers, including new boy Marouane Fellaini who is 11/8 to earn a debut goal.

Not surprisingly, it’s Van Persie who tops the list, however. With three goals for Holland over the break, he now has 18 strikes in his last 21 games for club and country and is 1/2 with Paddy to deliver the goods against Ian Holloway’s troops. Not good news for the Van Persie naysayers.

Roberto Soldado is the nearest rival to the United marksman and a player who will doubtless be carrying many an armband going into the White Hart Lane clash with Norwich. The Spaniard now has five goals in seven games for club and country since signing for Spurs. Soldado is 4/6 to score at anytime against the Canaries with Paddy.

Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o is closer to a pension than puberty, but the Cameroonian striker is the most likely player to find the back of the net at any time in Chelsea’s clash with Everton. He can be backed at 15/8 to score a goal on his debut for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frank Lampard scored twice on Merseyside in the corresponding fixture last season and has a goal, an assist and two clean sheets to his name already in this campaign. He’s at 23/10 with Paddy to notch in the Goodison clash – Theo Walcott, at 6/4 to score at Sunderland, is the only midfielder more fancied over the weekend fixtures. Paddy are refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match should Lampard notch.

Clean Sheet Odds – Gameweek 4

Tottenham2.10
Man City2.10
Arsenal2.20

Just as Van Persie and Soldado dominate in the anytime scorer listing, it’s United and Spurs who rank top in the clean sheet odds. Paddy Power has David Moyes’ side at 8/11 to keep out newly promoted Palace, while Spurs are evens to rack up their third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the sizeable banana skin of a Britannia clash and the absence of Vincent Kompany in the back four, City are also well fancied here, with Arsenal not far behind as they look to shut-out Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

Goal-shy West Brom are the only side in the top flight not to score this season and face a testing trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham beat the Baggies 3-0 in this fixture last season and are 7/4 to keep a shut-out with Paddy Power. Martin Jol’s side are in the mix with Aston Villa and Liverpool, with Hull City and Southampton offering budget and mid-price options. The Tigers are 17/10 for a clean sheet at home to Cardiff, while the Saints are 11/8 with Paddy for a shut-out against Big Sam’s Hammers at St Mary’s.

I am struggling with indecisiveness! Suggestions on these teams?

    Team 1:
    GK: Mignolet (Harper)
DEF: Zabaleta, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (B. Turner)
MID: Walcott, Lampard, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Soldado, Giroud

    Team 2:
    GK: Mignolet (Harper)
DEF: Vidic, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (B. Turner)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho/Michu, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Benteke, Giroud

    Or the craziest of all:
    Team 3:
    GK: Boruc (Harper)
DEF: Vidic, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (Baker)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho/Michu, Lampard, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Benteke, Giroud

    So many decisions to make!
    1) Which team would you go for?
    2) Zabaleta or Vidic?
    3) Shaw or Kaboul?
    4) Coutinho or Michu?

Any and all suggestions appreciated! 🙂

When is the last time Vidic strung a series of 6-8 games without an injury? Evra has shown immense fitness and should be rotation free. Fellaini in the box should boost his assist potential as well

I just think last season was an anomaly, Evra won't have the same attacking points again. Vidic has been very injury prone to be fair but he's great when fit and who's to say he can't can't stay fit for a lot of this season. I just don't think Evra is worth 6.5, why not go .5 more and get Vert.

Midfield is really weak. Walcott is a must IMO though so thats sorted, Mirallas and Snodgrass could come good. Brady is a good 4th or 5th mid rotation option. Bench is really weak.

I like it. Giroud/Walcott or Coutinho (C) if you are brave! 😆

Soldado is a safe pick though, but to be honest I haven't been thrilled so far. Expensive penalty taker so far, good reputation in Spain, but with a whole new team at Spurs, its bound to take a while to gel. I'd be worried about a blank there vs. Norwich. But go with your gut.

With that team, if it was mine, I'd be inclined to go with Giroud, who is nailed on. Walcott is a good option, but you just never know, that "knock" vs Ukraine looked very very dirty. Wenger said he is fine, but IMO that is a riskier captain choice this week at least. So I'd say Giroud. But everything else looks fine. Good team mate!

Thanks for your input. Certainly something to ponder. The bookies heavily favour Soldado to score over Giroud. I understand that markets are skewed to what punters bet on often ahead of what they always believe will happen but even so it is a large swing. I agree that Walcott could be risky and may even start on the bench (a bit risky). Not sure Coutinho has shown enough to be a captain option (though I remain confident he will do well). Things were looking so good before yesterday (Silva & Mert news). At least they are both short term.

Scroobius Mac says he believes he will start this week. Played full 90s in the two Europa League qualifiers last month alongside Vertonghen and has had two weeks to recover. I've also been through two separate Spurs forums and the vast majority of them think/want Kaboul to start against Norwich.

Currently got the armband on Giroud but it just feels so wrong! Anyone else feel like their Captaincy choice is a little skewered?

      Walcott > No goals yet
Soldado > No goals in open play yet
      Giroud > It's Giroud, albeit Giroud 2.0.
Sturridge > Would love to have a MNF captain but the risk he might not play is bugging me

Saying that I bet everyone here just has RVP right?

Ah, a subject that is very close to my heart... Amazing guitar solos...

There are so many out there, and more often than not I'd be posting about 10-15 different links from countless songs from the likes of Hendrix, Floyd and of course Zeppelin... but the one I thought I'd share was Aqualung from Jethro Tull, Martin Barre deserves a mention here for his amazing improvisation of an already great solo, it's not everyday someone can outshine Ian Anderson, but I think he ever so slightly does here...

I fecking love this one... I hope you do too...

While my guitar gently weeps by the late Jeff Healey . One of the few times when a cover is better than the original . Absutely astounding guitar playing .

Just did RVP/Whit in for Coutinho/Lambchops. Let's hope the mother of all points hauls tomorrow. 😛

Very good team. Wish I could fit Evra in. But I've got Vidic, so its not too bad. Same front 3 as me. 😉

Think the full-back positions are up in the air. Chambers is looking strong though, I wouldn't touch him, like I already did at the beginning of the season.

        Why?

He's confident and in form. + confidence is bound to be high with the Ozil signing, he is nailed on and the only fit striker they have. The whole team is creative around him.

        Hat-trick vs. Sunderland coming up!

Probably letting his last season performance cloud my mind and bring in some doubt. I have him in my squad too, let's hope my gut feeling isn't correct and that he will be prolific instead of hitting a barren spell 😉

There's a reason Arsene was in hunt for a striker throughout the window!
