[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

Arsenal’s young gun comes to the fore to steal Mesut Ozil’s thunder. Tottenham’s icy finisher shows his worth to overshadow their own debutant, while the Gunners top scorer gives his owners a scare by limping off with a knee problem.

The Game Changer

All eyes were on Mesut Ozil’s performance on his debut and, while the German’s display exuded class, composure and the first of many assists, it was Aaron Ramsey who will hog the headlines. A brace of goals capped what has been a hugely impressive season so far for the young Welshman – a player who has suddenly emerged from the shadow of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, to promote himself as a true box-to-box midfielder, capable of controlling matches and scoring goals.

Ramsey’s smart volley and a slotted finish from Olivier Giroud’s pass took him to five goals in all competitions – matching his total from last season. Quite simply, Ramsey is a player reborn at a time when the Arsenal midfield looks set to be rejuvenated by Ozil’s promptings and uncanny eye for the killer pass.

While the pre-match effort concentrated on how to juggle the cash to possibly accomodate Ozil’s price tag, Ramsey is available for just 5.6 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), £5.8 million in the Sky Sports game and £2.5 million in the Sun Dream Team – a game which has him ranked as the top midfielder.

Today’s returns will surely see his stock soar further, as Fantasy managers seriously consider loading up on Arsenal’s attacking assets as the creativity and opportunities for goals in the Gunners camp hits new heights. Indeed, with Giroud finding consistency up front, there’s even a case for a switch in emphasis, away from the heavy hitting midfield trio of Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Ozil with a Ramsey/Giroud pairing currently offering strong value.

A late injury scare for Giroud may just change all that, however. The Frenchman was withdrawn late on with a knee problem and we’re awaiting news on the extent of the damage.

The Underused

While Ramsey is the darling on one side of north London, Gylfi Sigurdsson was the toast of White Hart Lane. Given the opportunity to impress by Andre Villas-Boas, the Icelander seized the day, providing a stunning reminder of his goalscoring ability as Spurs eased past a disappointing Norwich.

Like Ozil, Spurs had their own glittering debutant on show. Christian Eriksen’s performance, embroidered by a debut assist, will doubtless have piqued the interest of Fantasy managers. It was Sigurdsson who provided the end product, however.

At just 6.9 in the FPL, we now find ourselves reassessing his potential. While Eriksen and Erik Lamela offer the glamour and excitement of new arrivals at the Lane, Siggurdsson’s talent as a Fantasy asset is proven from his season at Swansea. If he can cement his starting role, he could yet make a return to the reckoning and draw investment away from Tottenham’s expensive imports.

The Selection Poser

Giroud’s injury is an immediate concern for many – given that he is already the most popular transfer target amongst the forwards following today’s goal and assist haul, clearly there is an urgent need for clarity.

Subject to over 268,000 transfers in over the international fortnight, he has already acquired over 15,000 new owners on the back of this afternoon’s display but the bandwagon will surely slow on the back of his withdrawal.

Post-match, Wenger was asked whether the Frenchman would be fit for the midweek Champions League match against Marseille but gave little away:

“That’s my worry today after the game. We are very thin at the moment. [It is] a knee problem. He is the player at the moment that would be very difficult for us [to replace.]”

With Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo out and Nicklas Bendtner far from match-fit, Wenger’s forward options are stretched to threadbare already. A potential absence for Giroud would be a massive blow to his Fantasy owners but could, in turn, promote Walcott as the central option if the prognosis proves pessimistic. Wenger’s next injury update is already eagerly awaited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm not talking about bad defending and touch of the ball.
I'm talking about how many important tackles, how many important interception, header, etc.
I didn't watch the game But I watched Cardiff vs Everton, Everton vs WBA. Coleman has bigger chance to score a goal and made many cross and yet Baines, Distin, Jagielka got the BAPS because I have to admit Coleman didn't do as much as them in defending.

    Kim & Soldado > Giroud & Ramsey (-4) DONE 😆

Giroud's two tweets that A) his knee is OK and B) he's focusing on Marseille have convinced me to take the risk. I do, as an absolute backup, have my WC in case anything really terrible happens.

yes, but I blacked out for about 5 or so seconds going out the door and ripped some siding off the plane as my friend (a skydiving instructor) hacked my arm off the side of the plane to push me out

yes, it was a tandem jump

total sensory overload going out the door; doesn't quite make sense to jump out into the air 10,000 feet above the ground

quite pleasant to be there once I got used to it, but nutty thing to do in principal

was a good friend, he offered to get me on a ride at cost (which was $25), couldn't say no to that

it is certainly worth doing at least once

if you do, do it someplace you'll enjoy the scenery once you're hanging in the air - it isn't like it's cheaper to do hanging over miles of flat cow pastures

i liked doing the tandem with someone experienced attached to my back. i pulled the cord and such on my own, but he did a few tricks in the air (spinning, which was fun for a bit; collapsing the chute for a few secs, less amusing to me)

brown trouser time kind of, more just a freaking blank like when you've blacked out drinking and you go talk to the last people you were with, and they say they don't know what happened, you just kind of went off on your own, but you can see behind their eyes that they do know and don't want to tell you.

so anyway, i just remember he said that he would say, "1...2...3... skydive" and we'd jump... then I heard 1 and 2 and went blank. next thing i knew, we were in free fall. total sensory overload.

          1) Your team is in decent shape. You have some of the correct defenders who will get bonus (Mert & Lovren), one that can score (Iva), and one that has done a bit of both albet injured (GJ). Your strikers are solid. No one has a good midfield.

          2) Colback & Baker are your weakest links, but you're not starting them anyway, so don't worry about them until you have a spare FT (as in, you accumulate 2, and have no other priorities to worry about).

          3) Your original post was 5 minutes after prices changed. If you want to catch price rises, you need to get your questions sorted by 2am London time (price rises have been at about 2:45am lately, but I wouldn't cut it that close).

          4) If you think Ramsey is a season keeper, you could do that one free transfer this week. If he's for the price rise and a few weeks, let it go.

          5) The only players you have that are dropping in value obviously are Michu who is worth holding and GJ. GJ has tweeted his injury isn't as bad as first thought. Could be back by GW 7 or 8. I can see using your 1 FT on GJ to Coleman as you right now have double Liverpool.

          6) Use only your 1 FT this week OR bank it and have 2 next week. Slow things down. It is a long season, and you don't want to be in the habit of taking -4 or more on a regular basis. It becomes habit forming because there's always one more player you want, but if you average -4 for the season, you'll have cost yourself 152 points. Extrapolated just to make the point

So, 3 choices in my opinion:
          -GJ to Coleman
          - Nolan to Ramsey
          - hold your FT

mate , thnx for the long answer much appreciated.
i was trying to get some value for Baker and GJ who might go down anotehr .2 this week, no? since lots of people r not aware his est time of return is oct 19.

Iactually did post this at 2am but had no replys unfort. knew the 2:40am cutoff time for price rise.
u make good pts...i was thingking of doing the B option fot the benefot of the doubt Ramsey, since not sure how it will shape w cazorla and arteta bak in 3-4 weeks.
            or
option a as to doing 5-2-3 sometimes dropping gj and baker for coleman and Wilson whose playing very well 20 pts or even mbiwa who has upside...this option i cant anuymore cause im short .1 w pice rise

well, it is your call in the end

Nolan will be steady, and really, West Ham have limited options for scoring now with Carroll out for a while so he'll have to step up

since you missed tonight's price changes, might as well watch West Ham play tomorrow first, before you decide

I think Ramsey is a punt that I could afford to do with a free transfer, and it frees up money to get a big striker next week (Suarez or Rooney)

also, there's fixtures... think West Ham's are getting tougher and Arsenal's are pretty light for a while going forward

but what you want, is steady points

not sure about the 5-2-3 for the season, but maybe... it has been a weirdly low scoring start to the season

sorry you didn't get responses earlier... getting a grav (a picture) next to your name will help (it's in the FAQ, gravatar.com is the site to go to - have to use same e-mail as this site and a picture you rate rating G)

would u hav done it tonite either A or B?
maybe A for Coleman + Wilson/Mbiwa so as to get value out of Baker and GJ?
Both chance of dropping during week + also allows to do 4 or 5 d if i want to.

your pt of staying put for doube FT next week is valid, but my other team today w/ 5 Def is destroyng! and the guy i dropd for -4 and piked up is offering me + 6 so got a margin + 2

grav is pretty quick to get

i'd have probably knee jerked Coleman today first. saw the game. he's getting really far forward. Martinez has them playing attacking football, lukaku coming into the side will not hurt that, and barkley seems to be getting better by the week (a wee bit of a closet Everton fan, so there might be some bias in there).

                    good luck with the decisions

so ure saying u would have gone for GJ 6 for Coleman 5.4 (save .6)

would u still do it for Coleman at 5.5?
thinking maybe GK drops another .1 this week?
maybe Coleman goes up another .1 before next gw to 5.6?

i saw some of match as well;Coleman 2nd half did NOT stop, ALMOST APENALTY commited on him the foul right outside the box. coleman is a man's cheap baines veryu good.
Barkley will NOT loose min it looks evenb w the 2 purchases, seems coach want to play and go nuts on opposing defence, guy seems reletless.

                        yup

same as point #5 at the start of this thread

think Coleman is a good season keeper

Everton aren't in Europa, Howard is a top notch GK, Martinez has them playing attacking

Coleman will only get bonus if he gets assists or goals though as he's getting nicked for passing accuracy by the bonus system otherwise (when there's a clean sheet)... but he's still a lot cheaper than Baines, and has a lot more attacking potential than Distin

I'm getting a bit sick of Snodgrass being in my team. Although with AVL coming up he's probably worth keeping for one more game especially as there are no obvious transfers. Hernandez(cpl) might be an option but Palace seem tough to break down and will be difficult at home.

Nah. RVP was wasteful. If Rooney didn't score that FK he would get 0 and RVP 2/3 baps.

Rooney squandered a couple of nice chances also.

Neither were clinical enough on this day.

If they are both even though then surely its better to go for the cheaper player. Rooney creates more opportunity for others as well so will get plenty of assists. RVP hasn't been creating anything this season. Its a concern.

It's easy for us to judge in slow motion, but at full speed I definitely thought it was a PK. Can't really blame the ref or linesman, was really fine margins.

That being said, Young has this ability to fly 5-10 yards while in the air, happened to land INSIDE the box 😉

For those considering Arsenal attacking assets, Stoke have 5th most shots in box conceded, and 2nd most shots in box conceded away (only Newcastle have conceded more). They play away to Arsenal this week.

Yet Manchester City with all their attacking power couldn't score against them. Stoke must be really good at blocking shots because its a bit of a mystery otherwise.

This probably ties in with Ryan's point.

My dream is he gets sent off for bringing down Ramsey, Giroud takes the the penalty giving me an assist and goal. Then their sub GK lets in every shot, allowing Walcott to score a hattrick 😆

Nailed on for 2-3 weeks minimum, playing well for several games, linked up well with Ozil and only 5.6 of your budget. What's not to like?

It's hard, I should be tempted but I'm just not.

Maybe times are changing and he's evolving into a very versatile player but there are a number of concerns. He is also apt to play deeper once Caz is back (but, maybe not, maybe Caz will be benched while his form continues) and that makes him a far less viable option.

It will be interesting. There will be strong competition for spots with the return of Arteta and Caz. Personally, despite Ramsey's form, I think I would like to see:

      --------Giroud------
      Caz - Ozil - Wally
      Wilshere - Flamini

Irrespective of any other team coverage and anything else, which midfielder would you most like on your team over the next 2-3 weeks, looking at form, talent and fixtures.

Probably Özil or Walcott for me with Coutinho probably third.

Talking to a friend of mine that follows the Serie A as well as being a Tottenham supporter... he's really not convinced that Lamela will be all that impressive in the PL. The word is that he shies away from physical play... No one doubts his talents, but they might be somewhat wasted in England.
