[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

Arsenal’s young gun comes to the fore to steal Mesut Ozil’s thunder. Tottenham’s icy finisher shows his worth to overshadow their own debutant, while the Gunners top scorer gives his owners a scare by limping off with a knee problem.

The Game Changer

All eyes were on Mesut Ozil’s performance on his debut and, while the German’s display exuded class, composure and the first of many assists, it was Aaron Ramsey who will hog the headlines. A brace of goals capped what has been a hugely impressive season so far for the young Welshman – a player who has suddenly emerged from the shadow of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, to promote himself as a true box-to-box midfielder, capable of controlling matches and scoring goals.

Ramsey’s smart volley and a slotted finish from Olivier Giroud’s pass took him to five goals in all competitions – matching his total from last season. Quite simply, Ramsey is a player reborn at a time when the Arsenal midfield looks set to be rejuvenated by Ozil’s promptings and uncanny eye for the killer pass.

While the pre-match effort concentrated on how to juggle the cash to possibly accomodate Ozil’s price tag, Ramsey is available for just 5.6 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), £5.8 million in the Sky Sports game and £2.5 million in the Sun Dream Team – a game which has him ranked as the top midfielder.

Today’s returns will surely see his stock soar further, as Fantasy managers seriously consider loading up on Arsenal’s attacking assets as the creativity and opportunities for goals in the Gunners camp hits new heights. Indeed, with Giroud finding consistency up front, there’s even a case for a switch in emphasis, away from the heavy hitting midfield trio of Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Ozil with a Ramsey/Giroud pairing currently offering strong value.

A late injury scare for Giroud may just change all that, however. The Frenchman was withdrawn late on with a knee problem and we’re awaiting news on the extent of the damage.

The Underused

While Ramsey is the darling on one side of north London, Gylfi Sigurdsson was the toast of White Hart Lane. Given the opportunity to impress by Andre Villas-Boas, the Icelander seized the day, providing a stunning reminder of his goalscoring ability as Spurs eased past a disappointing Norwich.

Like Ozil, Spurs had their own glittering debutant on show. Christian Eriksen’s performance, embroidered by a debut assist, will doubtless have piqued the interest of Fantasy managers. It was Sigurdsson who provided the end product, however.

At just 6.9 in the FPL, we now find ourselves reassessing his potential. While Eriksen and Erik Lamela offer the glamour and excitement of new arrivals at the Lane, Siggurdsson’s talent as a Fantasy asset is proven from his season at Swansea. If he can cement his starting role, he could yet make a return to the reckoning and draw investment away from Tottenham’s expensive imports.

The Selection Poser

Giroud’s injury is an immediate concern for many – given that he is already the most popular transfer target amongst the forwards following today’s goal and assist haul, clearly there is an urgent need for clarity.

Subject to over 268,000 transfers in over the international fortnight, he has already acquired over 15,000 new owners on the back of this afternoon’s display but the bandwagon will surely slow on the back of his withdrawal.

Post-match, Wenger was asked whether the Frenchman would be fit for the midweek Champions League match against Marseille but gave little away:

“That’s my worry today after the game. We are very thin at the moment. [It is] a knee problem. He is the player at the moment that would be very difficult for us [to replace.]”

With Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo out and Nicklas Bendtner far from match-fit, Wenger’s forward options are stretched to threadbare already. A potential absence for Giroud would be a massive blow to his Fantasy owners but could, in turn, promote Walcott as the central option if the prognosis proves pessimistic. Wenger’s next injury update is already eagerly awaited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Think Eto'o could be a differential next week.

Didn't quite look match fit, so the fact that Jose started him means a lot. Also, was involved in most of the good chances that Chelsea had.

If only we were witnessing the Eto'o in his prime, he would have scored a brace last night. But then, he did play well. Seems like a matter of time before he finds his scoring boots. Might be a good differential if his starts are assured

The rise of Ramsey ! Erm, Is he a genuine mid-field option with the likes of Ozil, Cazorla, Walcott around (from a FPL perspective) or is this just a short term spell? (I still remember Sissoko's initial GW's at Newcastle last season, when he scored and assisted in almost 4 consecutive GW's). Would be interested in hearing your thoughts fellas, Cheers.

I like Ramsey but for me he plays to far back. Giroud, Walcott, Cazorla, Ozil, all playing in front of him. Was probably higher on the pitch yesterday with Caz out. Id rather have Giroud, Walcott Ozil.

Just saw MOTD highlights and Wenger was full of praise for him. Arsenal's attack is a must for every fpl manager out there now that they have got an assist beast in Ozil. If Ramsey's starts are assured, he might be a nice differential

I know a lot of people are considering Michu, including myself. Does his 2013 form put you off?

    5 goals in 21 games.

He looks like he'll get a load of assists this year too with the way swans have set up.. so even if he does go on a lean spell he'll have them to fall back on unlike last year. Got a feeling he's gonna net tmrw and start a bandwagon though. been looking good of late

I know what you mean, but all this stat count comes to nothing if he bags a brace against Pool (Just saying). I guess people are holding off a bit at the moment just to see if he can provide any returns. Once he resonates last season's form, I'd be joining the bandwagon too

If he scores a brace. 5 goals since the turn of the year isn't encouraging. For a 9M midfielder who managed 3 assists all of last season it is terrible.

Fiso not been accurate for much of the start of this year, FPL changed some stuff around I think. TFPL has been mostly accurate and is the one I use , but comparing the two is best.

Does anyone know a site that has extended match replays around 10 minutes? I missed the Arsenal game and all I can find is 3 min videos that just show the goals or full match replays.
    Cheers

    Hi lads!

I am not very happy with my team after doing an 8 point hit before this week (brought Giroud, Benteke - good buys and Lampard - hopefully will feature and score still): http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/624174/event-history/4/

Have 1 FT and 3.6 mil in the bank. I am kinda tempted to get Ben Arfa and ditch either Nolan or Mirallas. Not sure about this though. Maybe there are better options? Might get Rooney or Suarez and ditch Soldado in GW6. Need your advice.

Turner and Mirallas are your immediate problems, imo.

Norwich look poor and I can't see many defensive returns from them. Mirallas looks like a waste of money when you can get Barkley doing the same thing for a cheaper price.

I have £2.3m in bank and I'm seriously considering getting Vertonghen in. Picked up baps in 3 of their 4 games already this season and only a matter of time before he scores. I reckon Murner to Vertonghen is a top move.

          Mirallas.

Nolan is West Ham's only hope for goals right now.

Soldado still has some decent fixtures to come. Hit the post yesterday and will benefit from Eriksen's service. Yesterday was Siggy's day, no doubt about it, but Soldado will get his too.

Not as attacking as last season but he's playing a position that clearly favours baps right now.

4 weeks into the season he's averaging 1.25 baps per game. Over 38 games that's a healthy number of Baps. Yes, that will drop off, but he's still on course to pick up a lot of extra points on top of their cleanies.

At the moment I'd have to say yeah.

Utd have good fixtures but Vidic is injury prone and Utd don't look like they're creating an awful lot of chances.

Spurs defence looks the real deal this season and Vert looks to be a baps magnet.

    Thoughts on this WC Team:

    Boruc (Davies)
    Ivan Vidic Coleman (Gabidon, Chester)
    Ozil Erikson HBA Coutinho (Lucas)
    Giroud Soldado Benteke

    .1 in the bank

No need for Soldado with Eriksen in there. Sturridge in and replace Coutinho.

Also, if I was Wc'ing now Vertonghen would be the first player on my list.

Mornun all. Another thoroughly underwhelming gameweek here, with the likes of Soldado, Mirallas, Walcott all looking OK but not churning up any points for me.

Not sure where to go now with my team, no transfers planned, so any thoughts are welcome -
