On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Heard anything more about Pablo's hammy? I need him to play this week, might do the obvious Ramsey transfer. I suppose you could play 4 in def so could sit him on the bench for a week.

Thanks Eden. So Suarez serves the last of his 10 match ban next week, and with him surely coming straight back into the team, i have a few questions:

        1. Who will make way from a team that have played so well and are top of the league? And will Moses likely be rotated?
        2. How will his return affect Sturridge?
        3. Is anyone thinking about bringing him striaght into your team?
        4. Considering Liverpool's next 5 fixtures (SOT, sun, CPL, new, WBA) is anyone considering having both Suarez AND Sturridge?
        5. Who, like me, can't wait to have him back playing in the Prem?!!

          1) henderson im guessing
          think lineup will be

          studge
          moses cout suarez

moses rotated with hendo and aspas but he looked good and will get the most game time out of the three

          2) think he will help pool score more goals which will help studge points
          3) not for me as i think studge will maintain central role and suarez more effective floating about as he cant finish the easy chances.
          4) again no as i have tekkers and giroud but we will see!

Need some help here guys... Here's the team:

    Boruc (Foster*)
    Toure*, Coleman, Zabaleta (Ward*, Chester)
    Ozil, Coutinho*, Hernandez*, Walcott (Jedinak)
    Benteke, Sturridge, Lambert*

Should I wildcard this lot? It was looking decent before the international break, but I've now got injuries to Foster, Ward & Hernandez, and Toure with the rotation risk. Coutinho & Lambert are not performing, but are low priority since they have decent fixtures and guaranteed starts.

    WC Team:

    Boruc (MIGNOLET)
    VIDIC, Coleman, Zabaleta (WALKER, Chester)
MICHU, BEN ARFA, RAMSEY, Walcott (Jedinak)
    Benteke, Sturridge, GIROUD

Ozil makes way as well to free up cash. Worth a WC? Feels a bit knee-jerky based on last week...

How can you still stand by RVP when there are options that are at least 4-5 mil cheaper that are scoring as much, if not more?

Wouldn't you rather that money put back into your defense or to grab Özil or Eriksen?

Here's the thing people don't get about RvP. Other players will always go on scoring runs and will have spurts where they deliver FPL points. But RvP is consistent, throughout the season. Sure, he blanks too, but come the end of the season, he would be the player with the fewest blanks and the most overall points. He isn't the best value for money - he wasn't last year - but when it was all said and done, it was a lot tougher to accumulate points without him and it requires a lot more skill / luck to pick out other players as they are about to deliver.

This. The problem with RVP is not his performances but the fact the cheaper guys are just as consistent atm. That will likely change at some point.
I want him gw6 but I can't justify dropping any of my forwards atm 😕

If you are on Giroud - Benteke - Sturridge, then at the present there is no point of dropping one, I agree. They all have the form and fixtures and all signs post towards their maintaining the great run they are on.

Yeah that's my front line. I'll constantly have an eye on a strategy to get the dutchman though. He will continue scoring most weeks.
People were surprised by his one goal vs palace but that was my prediction. Thing is he's not fixture dependant at all. He'll probably score against city too

It *was* a lot tougher to accumulate points without him.

However, Giroud seems to have found his feet, Benteke likewise (since January), Sturridge has managed something like 1 goal less than RVP since he's come to Liverpool and that's in 5 games less. Suarez will be back soon, Moyes' comments made a case for Rooney to be included and the stats are pointing towards Soldado coming good.

Of course this may not last, but the last 2 seasons where RVP has dominated there weren't that many options like these around.

This *could* happen, but I can't see us all of a sudden having 3-4 strikers that maintain that level of production over the course of a whole season. Sturridge has fitness issues, Benteke is still young and plays for Aston Villa, Suarez is a knuckle head that is a time bomb waiting to explode.

Giroud has looked fantastic and with a better creative cast, he could be the real deal.

I am saying let's wait and see if these guys can keep it up, but hard to believe we will have 3-4 forwards at 260pts come the end of the season.

They don't need to score 260 points, only RVP does to be worth it.

re Sturridge the same thing was said about RVP 2 seasons ago, and since then he's barely missed a game. As long as Sturridge is getting 90 minutes in the PL each week I'm happy, which so far has happened.

Honestly, at this stage, I wouldn't even know when to spend the extra 3-4 million. No big hitting midfielder has yet hit form, I don't like spending big on multiple defenders as it (a) reduced flexibility in the future and (b) I am of the strong opinion that clean sheets will revert to a much lower norm.

So for the next little bit, I will ride RvP until it becomes clear if other forwards can maintain his consistency and other options emerge that make the use of funds necessary.

Repost. Probably better to put this to the group, feel free to ignore...

Suarez serves the last of his 10 match ban next week, and with him surely coming straight back into the team, i have a few questions:

      1. There may be a bit of rotation between the likes of Aspas, Henderson, and Moses. When healthy, Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez should all start the vast majority of games.
      2. Jury is still out. There are those who think Suarez will steal Sturridge's points and there are those who thinks Suarez' creativity will benefit Sturridge. Our data sample from last year was too small to judge. I never owned Sturridge bar the GW38 debacle but cashed in on a lot of Suarez' points.
      3. Yes
      4. No - too much quality in the front line and too many teams with good fixtures to go with 2 'Pool strikers for the 3 precious spots
      5. Agreed

      1. Probably Henderson. However Moses/Henderson and Aspas (if he counts) all into 1 spot so probably yes

      2. Only one way to find out. Last season Sturridge often found himself out wide/injured during the times they were both there.

      3. No because I own Sturridge, but if I didn't I'd be tempted

      4. I wasn't until just then. But still probably not! Benteke/Giroud/Soldado/Rooney + 1 of them I think

      5. One of my favourite players to watch when his head is screwed on.

      repost reply

      1) henderson im guessing
      think lineup will be

      studge
      moses cout suarez

moses rotated with hendo and aspas but he looked good and will get the most game time out of the three

      2) think he will help pool score more goals which will help studge points
      3) not for me as i think studge will maintain central role and suarez more effective floating about as he cant finish the easy chances.
      4) again no as i have tekkers and giroud but we will see!
      5) as a pool fan cannot wait!

    @Pepin.

It's more the players I don't own that I need to get in, rather the players I own themselves.

I just feel if I stick with this team, I'm stuck holding too many shitty players in comparison to others.

Need to get in Giroud, Sturridge, etc.

My mids are crap. You honestly wouldn't WC in my shoes?

I'll likely lose 0.3-0.4 in value this week as well.

Well, one way to decide is - set up your perfect WC team and see how many players you would actually change...Then decide how many are must have's. There haven't been that many players that have showed that they are must haves. Soldado could easily outscore Giroud this week given the amount of chances he's had and the fact that Cardiff are joint second in most chances in box conceded.

Coutinho > Michu is a simple one. Mirallas will come good - the switch to HBA may prove to be a bad one and you might find yourself wanting to do the opposite transfer in a week.

I WC'ed last week to bring in RvP and clear out some deadwood. Time will tell if that was a good time to do it or not.

Exactly this. I was contemplating it this morning and made all the tranfsers and looked at it. And with maybe one hit, I'd have most of who I wanted playing that I would want for this gameweek already in the team, but not so much over the next few.

Such as taking out soldado for Giroud. I think Soldado has a better fixture.

Only thing would be the deadwood on the bench that I don't really use and maybe one or two who are playing well but not getting points. WC may be an option next week I think though.
