On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    So...
Coutinho ended up being a huge letdown from what i saw lastnight and I just brought him in with my WC. Now the questions are:
Do i keep him if declared fit and keep my ft?
If I have to transfer im torn between HBA and Erikssen? Who has the edge between those 2?

Since the season started I keep thinking that HBA is a steal at this low price, but I keep telling myself the injury risk is not worth it.
Erikssen had the spark in him, but in the end it was just 70min against a terrible norwich.

    Gah...

Someone else may be? ( have michu and walcott already)

    Hi,

Is anyone thinking Lamps -> HBA this week? I know Lamps is at home to Fulham but he's playing further back than HBA, both on penalties, Lamps clearly has some rotation risk with the CL, HBA in the better form.

Partly hoping people can talk me out of the move as my 3 benched players this week only managed 19 mins between them, so Hernandez->Ramsey is another 'safer' option.

My midfield is Lamps, Walcott, Brady, Hernandez, Ward-Prowse. 0.2m in bank.

Great to see Adnan featuring in Moyes' plan. Expect him to be a regular by mid season at this rate. He's that good. I'll repeat, only CR7 got me more excited as a youth prospect bursting onto the scene.

    HE'S THAT GOOD.

    Moyes clarifies Januzaj call

Adnan Januzaj could make his Champions League debut sooner than some might have expected when his omission from Manchester United's group-stage squad was first spotted.

His manager David Moyes explained the decision to leave him out was tactical, as it enables the Reds to register the 18 year-old Belgian as an additional, available player from the third group game onwards. In the meantime, however, Januzaj will be ineligible to face Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow night and Shakhtar Donetsk away on Wednesday 2 October.

At Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Moyes said: "By 7 October, Adnan will have been at the club for the length of time that will allow him to go onto the 'B' list. It means he will become a youth player [for the Champions League].

"If we had put him onto the 'A' list now, then we would never have been able to class him as a youth-team player. So we needed to wait for two games to do that."

While Januzaj will miss the Leverkusen clash, Shinji Kagawa's chances of being involved have improved since Saturday when illness ruled him out of the Crystal Palace match in the Barclays Premier League.

"Shinji's better," said Moyes, "although he's still feeling symptoms in his throat. He's had a bit of flu as we said on Saturday. But he came in and did a bit of training yesterday and he's done a little bit today. So he's feeling a bit better."

This Walcott vs Ozil debate is an interesting one. Yes Ozil impressed and Wally came away with nothing out of the game but I wonder what the reaction would have been of Wally had put his chances away? Somewhat different I would guess. I'm happy to stick with Walcott, on another day he would have had 20+ pts so his time will come.

Wally looked good one the weekend and got into some really dangerous positions. It was only Westwood which stopped him having a double. Ozil was good, but wally was more attacking. If I was wildcarding this week and could only get one it would be Wally.

if Sturridge & Giroud are passed fit you should be ok, then you could consider selling Clichy if he's out

Hey Lateriser, watched Breaking Bad last night. Outstanding episode, one of the best of the entire series I thought

    Champions league
Anyone checked if for maximizing pts, its more suited like this yrs premier league, Defense oriented system, inclined for 4-3-3 or even at times 5-2-3?

Is Moses really an option into Liverpool attacking "cover"?

the way I see it is Moses should get at least an equal chance of scoring cmpared with Cout, and you get to pocket nearly 3m to use elsewhere, making more points for you

I agree, I think he is better cover than Coutinho provided he gets regular starts.

He is a punt due to rotation. Even Ozil couldn't play a better ball than shelvey did for him last night.

Prob a solid punt for a 4th mid. I wouldn't want to rely on him as a 3rd mid (week in week out)
