Jonjo Shelvey has a night of mixed emotions after playing a part in all four goals in last night’s 2-2 draw at the Liberty. Daniel Sturridge scores for the fourth straight game, Michu opens his account for the season and Victor Moses arrives on Fantasy radars after grabbing a goal on his debut for the visitors:

Sturridge Returns to Notch Again
The thigh injury that stopped him turning out for England failed to prevent Liverpool’s main man from lasting the full 90 minutes for the Reds last night. Sturridge’s deadly eye for goal shows little sign of abating after he pounced on a woeful Jonjo Shelvey backpass to score for the four league game in a row and take his tally to six strikes in five appearances this term for Brendan Rodgers’ side. With the threat of injury hanging over him during the international break, Sturridge increased just 0.1 in price in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game but the bandwagon can be expected to pick up pace after last night’s goal. His injury record at Chelsea and, on occasion in the latter half of last term with Liverpool, suggests Sturridge is almost always going to have that doubt hanging over him but, as he continues to prove, keeping the Fantasy faith more than pays dividend. With Sturridge, Olivier Giroud and Christian Benteke all notching four goals apiece already around the 9.0 mark, the case for going without Robin Van Persie has, so far, been proven a strong one.

Michu Breaks His Duck
Having failed to find the net in the first three fixtures, Swansea’s talisman suffered a price drop last week as Fantasy owners looked for alternatives. Michu’s equaliser not only denied Liverpool the points but served a reminder of his goal-getting abilities for the Swans as they edge towards a kinder run of matches. With an assist in the Gameweek 3 encounter against West Brom, the Spaniard is finally starting to hint at the form which made him such a Fantasy sensation last time out and with new boy Wilfried Bony subbed off with a knock, Michu may be forced into a forward role for the weekend trip to Palace. Once the Gameweek 6 showdown against Arsenal is out of the way, a schedule that reads (sou, SUN, WHM, car, STO, ful) will surely hand him the platform to further his returns.

Reds Clean Sheet Run Ends
Liverpool arrived at the Liberty as the last side yet to concede but a number of injuries in defence meant Rodgers was able to name just one of the back-four that started the first couple of Gameweeks. With Glen Johnson already ruled out and Kolo Toure nursing his way back to full fitness after a groin problem, the visitors were dealt a further blow after Daniel Agger was also sidelined due to a bizarre accident – new boy Mamadou Sakho slotted in alongside Martin Skrtel, with Andre Wisdom handed the right-back berth. After the game, though, Rodgers admitted the Dane is still a real doubt for the weekend’s Anfield encounter with Southampton, though talked up the prospects of Sakho after his debut display:

“It’s too early to say whether Daniel will be fit for Saturday (at home to Southampton). He had a real freak incident in the gym. Just before he was coming out to train, he overstretched trying to prevent a dumbbell falling on his foot. He has overstretched and yanked his side. We are waiting to see if that settles down over the next few days. If it doesn’t, we have got ample replacements. That is why we brought in extra players. Sakho did very well. He has played a lot over pre-season but he has come back in and done very well. I thought he was excellent and assured. Once he gets used to working with us, he will improve.”

Moses On the Radar
After signing the winger on loan from Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers was quick to reveal Moses’ ability to produce on the left would allow him to shift Philippe Coutinho into a central position. Many had anticipated a gradual introduction to the first-team but the Liverpool boss handed the Nigerian international an instant chance to impress and Moses wasted little time in serving up a debut goal, cutting inside from the flank to lash home past Michel Vorm after another woeful Shelvey pass went astray. With the above-mentioned run of fixtures in mind, Fantasy managers will be keen to add to their Liverpool contingent and Moses – at just 6.2 in FPL – looks a real contender already; Coutinho owners will be hoping he can shake off the shoulder complaint that forced him off just before the hour mark but those without the Brazilian will be eyeing up Moses as a strong mid-price option over the next few matches.

Following the game, Rodgers talked up Moses’ display and also rued Coutinho’s withdrawal before revealing it’s too early to ascertain the extent of his problem:

“I had a feeling with Victor coming here. When I was manager here, he always played well against us. He scored here and also scored for Chelsea here. I just had a feeling about him and his goal was very good….We had fluency and quality. But when Coutinho went off, we probably lost that connection between our midfield and forwards. He will have a wee scan. It’s his shoulder. He’s very sore in the changing room, and we’re hoping it will only be bruising.”

Eventful Evening for Shelvey
The former Liverpool midfielder will forever be associated with last night’s match after playing a part in all four goals in the 2-2 draw. Despite a couple of poor passes allowing Sturridge and Victor Moses the chance to notch for the visitors, Shelvey did, nonetheless, grab a goal, assist and maximum FPL bonus points to deliver a 12 point return for the hosts. Although Laudrup has plenty of midfield options available after a summer of squad restructuring, Shelvey remains a key player for the Welsh outfit and has started all four league games. Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, a possible absence for Bony could see him shifted into the role in “the hole” if Michu is moved forward and offer Pablo Hernandez owners a straight swap amongst the Swans midfield, after the Spaniard was ruled out with a hamstring problem last night; a bitter blow for the 180,000+ who drafted him in over the international break.

After the game, Shelvey was praised by his manager after recovering from his first-half display to tee up Michu’s equaliser:

“When you do that you go from heaven to hell in just a couple of minutes, scoring a goal in a very important game for you after two minutes but then you give away a goal – and another one with a ball lost. I told him [at half-time] ‘there are still 45 minutes, you have to learn from this and pull yourself together’, and I think he did great. He will become stronger out of this, his reaction in the second half was excellent.”

How many players are you prepared to lose money on?

I have M Tuner (-105%), Snodgrass (-114%), Coutinho (-137.2%) & Lambert (-105.2%) due tonight. So far I have already lost money on Williams, Snoddy & Cech this season.
I have made some back, but (if they all go through) this represents 0.7m loss in 4 gameweeks. Should I continue to take the losses? Or take some hits?

    How much is too much?!

People are too quick to WC - my midfield is a mess, but I can always play 4/5 at the back and save the wc for later on when I have more money, there a dgw's and we know better who are the big hitters. No wasting a wc to get rid of Cout, Mirallas and Walcott before they all start to convert their chances.

This is it. I have had plenty of injuries and am an expert at benching clean sheets so far this season but don't feel as if i need a massive overhaul. Just with the price explosion or implosion I'm averaging losing 0.2 per gw!

Hmm. With so many options up front I feel that moving Lambert on may be worthwhile.

Turner is a decent option who you should be able to keep until Jan so don't worry about him, price drops only matter if you are considering selling.

Coutinho should now have price protection. He'll be fine for a while.

Snoddy>HBA/Moses/Ramsey could work money/points wise as he has been poor recently.

I was hoping to wait a week and do Lambert - Lukaku but that may be pushed forward now.
I like Turner but they aren't keeping cleanies and with Chelsea, Arsenal and Citeh coming i'm not confident.
Thanks how does the price protection work now? It seems to have changed.

but also AVL, stoke and CAR.

I think that price protection increases the nti required for a player to drop.

Also are you not more concerned by Williams (injured) and Toure (may not start)?

The other point I'd make about value is that we arn't exactly struggling to stay within budget this year due to a number of good mid priced forwards, and a paucity of in form expensive mids.

Yeah i guess Houghton will tighten it up at some point. And he is part of a rotation.
So same as before on the protection? Thats fine.
This was the point. I wanted to sort those, but i have enough players to play and have a couple on the bench and Williams will not drop (as he already did) due to protection.
Toure I'm gonna wait and see.

If you believe in the player, take the losses. Try not to let it influence your decision too much. Lambert has gggggreat fixtures coming up, is on penos and was really close to a goal or two this weekend. Snodgrass has AVL next. Not much is known about Coutinho's situation, but I can understand people selling him since that's a lot of value to lose. If he's ready for the weekend though and continues to play in the hole I can see him punishing a looooot of people.

Also consider the rest of your team. If you have someone who isn't playing at all (say Brayford), why prioritize someone who is playing (MTurner for instance). Points, not value.

Thanks. Yeah this is what I'm trying to do. But such a loss of cash is worrying. And normally means that they are not getting the points, hence the drop.
I believe in Snoddy and will keep him. Lambert i really like but feel Osvaldo has pee'd in the party punch and Southampton no longer revolve around him.
Couts is having a stinker but no one really in that range to replace him. Thinking Haz and in that case don't wanna take the loss.

      Hernandez + RVP > Michu + Giroud

I am really struggling with FPL this season. It is slowly sucking the life out of me. Things that have negatively effected my enjoyment so far:

    1) All those cleansheets and bonuspoints for defenders.
    2) Mirallas & Coutinho.
    3) Snodgrass injury GW1.
    4) Putting myself firmly in the RVP camp.
    5) Walcott not fulfilling points potential.
    6) Clyne not playing and then getting 8pts when I leave him on the bench
    7) Hazard in the DGW

I am 72 points behind in the mini-league I wanted to win.

    My team is:

    Boruc Speroni
    Koscielny Clyne Chester Turner Ward
    Walcott Coutinho Mirallas Snodgrass Brady
    RVP Soldado Lambert

I have only used free transfers.

Is there any hope for me yet? Should I use a Wildcard and start again? Is this season already a write-off?

Relax, it's a long season with plenty of DGWs, twists and turns ahead. And 72 points is easily pull-backable in a couple of months with the right picks.

My advice is to decide if you want to stick with RVP or not, activate your wildcard and tap the wisdom of this crowd to refresh your team. Good luck.

You might as well stop now, we still have 90% of the game to go, but it's already to late. 34 gameweeks is not enough time to re coup 72 points. That's like 2 points a gw!!

If things are so far adrift from where you want to be, I'd do it. I was feeling similarly glum about my minileague and I WC'd last week. Made up three places and about 20 points on the leader.

Well, you currently have 1 more point than me and you're 20k positions above me - the margins are so small at this stage of the season one or two good gameweeks will get you back on track.

Your team doesn't look bad and 1 or 2 transfers could improve it a lot. Alternatively players like Mirallas or Lambert might start firing. What won't get you up the table at this point is following the crowd so, if you have faith that you've been unfortunate, stick. If you logically-speaking don't see it improving, WC.

What I would say however is that the beginning of this season has been bizarre in terms of volume of CSs and lack of goals scored (especially from midfield). I can't see that trend lasting and so now is not the time to chase that trend.

With you on 4,5, 7 and the first half of 6. Also got myself caught up with Cabaye and Lukaku mess, and the injured Joe Cole and Silva.

All you can do is pick yourself up and get on with it. Shit happens.

The only thing you can't recover from is 1. There will probably be less clean sheets, but there is a fundamental change to the game this year, and it can't be ignored.

I didin't even mention that Koscielny Red Card!

Thanks all for the input. its true Sh*t happens and you just got to get on with it and trust in good decisions making a difference over the course of the season. I'm leaning toward saving my wildcard for some DGWs or to make a late run to the finish.

Im gonna stick with Walcott, Coutinho (depending on injury), Mirallas, RVP, Soldado, Lambert (good fixtures) and hope they start coming through for me!

I've had Walcott from the start too and not sure I'd ever have doubled up on Arsenal with Giroud, so yeah, I doubt I'd have had any more points up top, or midfield for that matter.

I honestly believe that those with RVP (c) over the next month will shoot up the rankings, so I'm pretty happy with things as it stands.

Silva is price protected and, depending on when you bought him, might have to drop more than 0.1 for it to make a material difference. I'm hoping Hazard drops faster than Countinho - getting him in at 9.1 would be a bargain imo.

Ramsey already up .2 this week so only single. No reason HBA won't double as he's due a rise tonight.

would you do Nolan out for either Michu/Eriksen for a 4 point hit ?

Not for a hit. Get Michu after Arsenal or Eriksen next GW for free.

    Mignolet Marshall
    Mertesacker Toure Coleman Turner Turner
    Coutinho Hazard Walcott Hernandez Redmond
    Benteke Soldado Welbeck

2 free transfers, what should I do?
Wildcard looks a serious option right now.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME FOR YEARS:

with so much transfer activity seemingly going on on totalfpl it is worth to wildcard?

lambert and soldado will drop minimum 0.2 each (i have both so minimu 0.4 loss plus i might take lambert back with his nice fixtures so also gain from here)
ramsey ozil hba eriksen benteke likely to have at least 0.2 rise (0.5 profit from all of them)

so getting 1 MILLION is it worth to wildcard?

my team is currently: (no hits so far)

    Speroni / Boruc
    Terry / Dawson / Collins / Turner / Chester
    Hernández / Nolan / Michu / Lampard / Walcott
    Lambert / Soldado / Giroud

    really appreciate some thoughts

The transfer activity is a fluke caused by FPL not updating last night. In other words it's all of yesterday's transfers + todays transfers rolled into one.

Won't happen, the transfers have been backed up so activity seems higher than it is. Very little changed over the international break and that was two weeks.

If you want to catch rises, you need to start Saturday.

Nevertheless - with Ramsey, Ozil, HBA (at least) going up tonight, you would say there's a good chance of them going up again before the weekend - even taking in to account HBA and Ram have already risen once. As long as you sell after an even number of rises, missing out on early rises on Saturday isn't a big deal.

Ramsey already risen 0.2 this week according to FPL. Is the 0.3 rule still in effect? I'm about to lose possibly 0.4m tonight alone and i'm not WC. TYou can put out a nice team. Maybe Lambert -> Lukaku.

...and falls. I had 3 players due to fall in price, coupled with a poor start to the season and injuries I decided to WC.

I would have probably taken the -8.. unless your team was in complete ruins
