Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

Everyone saying not to dump Wally for Ozil. Surely best to dump him now, get the points and price rise for a player on the up and as soon as Wally hits form and is definitely not injured bring him back in for the now reduced price because of all the dumpers.

Yea, seriously, you gotta play it. Easily the best game I ever played. I almost cried in some scenes. The game is just epic.

I can't help but think Özil's FPL potential is massively under-rated on here.

Fair dues Walcott has more goal threat. But if you need a consistent premium mid, none better than Özil. My target for him was an average of one assist every other game and a goal once in 3 games. Already seems to have bettered it.

Strongly think both of them will be in the top 3 mids end of this season. And the gap between them and the rest could be huge.

So do you think Wally to Ozil is worth the hit? Views seem so mixed - I'm stuck!

        Only if Walcott is injured.

My point is Özil isn't an alternative to Walc but to be owned alongside him. Also Özil could be 10.5 by end of this GW.

My friend........I am wanting to Wildcard. I feel super desperate. Maybe its just that my(our) score of 30 hurts so bad, but chester's injury, tekkers' injury, and lampard rotation is just that serious, now.

Man......weeks like this are why I quit this game.

By the way, great call on Ozil, I think you are right on all points. If I wildcard I am gonna get rid of Walcott and get him.

Why do you want to WC bud? We just have to sit back and think this is one of those GWs

I'm taking an 8 pt hit. Do you think you can set yourself up with an 8pter or do you need more?

And you....good move on Michu. Also dropped you an email (no rush though) 🙂

8 pt. hit? isnt that just crazy? at that point, isnt a wildcard better off? 8 points!

Just checked. Yes, I can make a decent team for an 8 point hit. No, I still am not sure its worth it.

Think a wildcard is worth much more in the DGWs later in the season (but that may just be me). Also I feel I've got the balance of my team pretty well set up with reasonably cheap defs and pricey attackers. Already missed out on Giroud and don't think he's worth over Walc/Özil.

            Thoughts on the 8pt hit?
Soldado, Benteke, Lampard to Michu, Lukaku, Rooney.

How many changes do you have to make in your ideal XV? My other reason not to WC is that new players keep doing well every week with no consistency. Probably needs a few more gws to see which bandwagon is the real deal.

my ideal XV has eight changes.

              Out
Ward, Chester, Murner, Walcott, Kim Lampard, Soldado, Benteke

              In
Burner, Wilson, Clyne, Ozil, Barkley, Brady, Giroud, Rooney

I dont think its too late for Giroud. still on penos, too.

I know new players are doing well every week, but the injuries and the clearly bad are still rampant in our teams right now. spending 8 point to lose a wildcard seems crazy. I of course remember your famous super late year DGW wildcard. My plan was to save it for then, as well, but this is a crisis with all the injuries and rotation fears, not to mention value lost.

Ah. Go ahead and do it then bud. Looks like you're convinced on Özil and Giroud over Walc too. I agree though if not for my success with the WC 2 seasons back, I might have triggered WC by now. I may well be forced with a few more injuries midweek (hope not)

Think so Milan. He can replicate or even better Silva's breakout season already I think.

Michu (Europa fixtures) and Baby (rotation) have their issues too.

    Coleman, Shaw, Mertesacker
    Ben Arfa, Walcott, Paulinho, Michu
    Benteke, Soldado, Sturridge
    (Colback, Whittaker, McNaughton)

    1FT 1.7ITB
    to this...

    Lewis Mignolet/
    Coleman Clyne Ferdinand Turner Davies
Ramsey Ben Arfa Barkley Michu Özil
    Rooney Sturridge Giroud

          A bit of both lol

IMO the players you have brought in Ozil, Michu, Rooney etc... Make it a far stronger team that your exiting one

Not a big fan of HBA and I think Ramsey will stop scoring soon. Hey not sell the both for Oscar and a cheapie ?
