Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

Oh how cruel fantasy football is!

Does anyone here actually enjoy it any more? 🙂

My latest miff: owning Kosc and watching him come within centimetres of heading a goal in which instead went to Mert. I literally flipped a coin at the start of the season to decide between the two and obviously picked the wrong one.

Somehow this annoys me more than my captain (Wally) failing to play and the armband going to Studge.

Ravel is more of a natural central midfielder and he represents the future so over the season I see him getting a decent amount of playing time (50%+). Not bad for a 5th mid at 4.5M.

Jedinak nailed on, no attacking returns. 2 pointer.

Morrison for some potential attacking returns, currently starting but rotation risk when all players are back.

For below 4.7 this is as good as it gets for now.

Could be a good move, Vidic seems nailed and their fixtures are much better. Keep in mind though, Chelsea has only let in 2 goals this season, they could be on-track to go back to the defensive resolve of old... we definitely aren't scoring so.

Cant see a lot wrong with that team. I think a straight Lampard trade out is all that's needed.

I dont believe a WC is needed, perhaps wait for the cup matches and the injury news for Walcott. The 2 transfers you mention will probably give you many points this week. I would prefer another midfielder instead of Mirallas though (Brady, Walters, Lallana have good fixtures and could outscore him for example)

Yes, he could be. I'm looking at him. If he doesn't get the striker role though, I'm not sure how many points he will bring.

    How does this plan look?

    GW6: Soldado -> Rooney(c)
    GW7: Morrison & Nolan -> Michu & Moses [4 points]

Will give me a benching headache in attack, but I quite like what would be my new front 8....

    Boruc, Davis
    Zaba, Terry, Toure*, Chester*, Ward*
    Walcott, Mirallas, Ramsey, Nolan, Morrison
    Soldado, Sturridge, Giroud

21 points this weekend was by far my worst FPL score ever and placed my feet firmly on the ground after a better than expected start to the year.

Rather than kneejerk some players that have over-performed like Ramsey and Y.Toure, I'm going to sit back for a few days. This time last year I would have probably taken a -8 hit to get back on track, but I've seen too many people here bring in players on a whim and scream about it later. How many people transferred out Brady before GW5? 😉

Soldado probably needs to go, but Benteke, Walcott, Giroud, Silva, Coleman, Barfa, Hernandez etc. was just plain unlucky.

So what's my point? However bad your gameweek was, it was unlikely to be worse than my 21 points. Chin up and save your transfers. It will pay off in the end of the season.

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't actually watch that game but his performance in GW1-4 was poor. Need to check his stats in the members area before I make any decisions.

I planned the Soldado to Suarez switch a while back but can actually wait a bit longer as Soldado's 9.6 price can drop a wee bit before I make a move.

Tough GW, but good for you that you are keeping calm! I want to kneejerk because of prices, but trying to go the same route, chill out, wait for more news, save transfers, try to ignore the bandwagons with bad wheels.

True, but Benteke should be a season keeper if he isn't badly injured.

True story...I had my fixed team of Belgians for the season last year (plus four others)...One week i got 14 pts...no hits and a full eleven out.. (the worst score i've ever seen on here) GW rank was damn near the bottom.....Three weeks later the same team got 84 pts and a GW rank of 1400 (low scoring week)...

Indeed - Marshall had a superb game.

Soldado will come good, but I can't see Spurs scoring many past Chelsea so perhaps now is the time to jump ship. Rooney/RVP gives a much better (c) option for those without either I feel.

Now to decide on which to get!

Haha yeah, I have NO idea how he didn't score. He missed a couple of sitters, Marshall had an amazing game. I'm sticking with Soldado, fixtures are great, he's getting plenty of chances, not worried at all.

It's hard to hold onto Lambert and Soldado when other strikers have been scoring.

At least Benteke out means I have one less to worry about but Giroud and particularly Rooney are tempting.

if you got a moment can I have your views on my WC team?

    Boruc Davis
    Evra, Zabs, Collins, Wilson, Turner
    Barkley, Ozil, Oscar, Michu, Morrison
    Rooney, Suarez , Lukaku

At this point I'm considering swapping Oscar for Toure but this would mean downgrading Wilson or Collins ? Any west ham fans on here ? Will ravel have a long term stay in the team ?
