Arsene Wenger has this afternoon confirmed Theo Walcott is set to be sidelined with the stomach problem that forced him out of Sunday’s win over Stoke.

Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek Capital One Cup clash against West Brom, the Gunners boss revealed:

“Theo will be out for a few weeks. He has developed some damage to his posterior abdominal wall. It’s not a hernia, but it’s a little structural problem in his abdomen. He will have the procedure in Germany on Wednesday and, because it’s so minor, we can begin his rehab immediately. We are pleased it’s being dealt with quickly and he shouldn’t miss too many Arsenal matches. But he will miss the forthcoming international matches with England.”

The news is now set to spark a selling spree across the Fantasy games as Walcott owners assess the midfield landscape in light of his absence. Ruled out for the next two league matches at least, he will certainly miss back-to-back trips to Swansea and West Brom and with a two-week international break following on from the Hawthorns clash, the exodus will continue at pace.

Given the Gunners’ upcoming kind run of games, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are immediate alternatives for those looking to invest in Wenger’s midfield – the latter has already risen 0.3 in price this week, while Ozil is primed for an overnight price hike following his trio of assists against the Potters. With Swansea and Tottenham also bracing themselves for kind schedules, Michu and Christian Eriksen will surely now pick up in ownership as the already-hectic market goes into overdrive.

Fantasy managers were also handed a heads-up by David Moyes earlier this afternoon with the news that Robin Van Persie is almost certainly ruled out of United’s Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool tomorrow evening.

Speaking to the media in today’s press conference, the Red Devils boss offered a somewhat pessimistic prognosis on the Dutchman, who missed Sunday’s 4-1 mauling at the hands of City in the first Manchester derby of the season:

“I don’t think Robin van Persie will play on Wednesday, but he has an outside chance for Saturday.”

With United set to face West Brom at Old Trafford this weekend, the potential for significant Fantasy points is obvious and the vast majority of the Dutchman’s owners will be reluctant to ship him out.

Given that the champions also entertain Southampton and Stoke and have trips to Sunderland and Fulham in the next five, the schedule looks primed for Van Persie to return to form after a disappointing run of games has seen him notch just once – via the spot – since the opening day of the season.

A swap for Wayne Rooney grows more appealing by the day, though. The former Everton man has now struck in back-to-back matches and has now overtaken Van Persie in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game on 24 points to his team-mate’s 21 – with a far kinder price tag (10.6 to 14.0) and vastly inferior ownership (6% to 41%), Rooney seems to have his spark back under Moyes and his acquisition would also free up much-needed funds for Van Persie owners to bolster the rest of their squads.

It may well be that Van Persie makes it in time for tomorrow’s match, though, and Moyes is simply keeping his cards close to his chest as he plots a return to winning ways after the weekend humbling. The Scotsman was notoriously reluctant to reveal team news during his time at Everton, with his penchant for discussing “knocks and niggles” proving frustrating for Fantasy plans.

The Dutchman’s owners will be hoping Moyes is a little more transparent with the injury updates over the next few days – as last weekend showed, vice-captains and bench options look key for those who chose to hold Van Persie if he remains a doubt heading into the weekend’s deadline.

      Giroud

Not sure, as it's Swansea, i think we'd be better off starting with the first option as it's more solid defensively. Introduce Gnabry later in the game if we lack width.

I believe Gnabry will get his chance to continue on the right. Why move Ramsey to the left when hes been playing like a Hero where he is?

I dont think anything will change to be honest. Arteta will be on the bench, or will replace Flammini, who will come on at 60mins.

    Team is
    Foster Boruc
    Zab Coleman Yanga Burner Bennett
    Walcott Michu Mirallas Ramsay Jedinak
    RvP Benteke Lambert

Thinking walcott to oscar, with the plan to upgrade ramsay to walcott/ozil at some point.

I could have this team if I wildcarded now:

    Boruc / Davis
    Zabaleta / Toure / Coleman / Wilson / Turner
    Michu / Ozil / Eriksen / Brady / Morrison
    Rooney / Suarez / Lukaku

I currently have Foster, Chester, Walcott out, Benteke and RVP doubtful, Baker out of favour and Morrison not nailed on.

I am doing extraordinarily badly this season even though my team is good (on paper). Should I pull the trigger?

Not for 12 points. Imagine using the WC to field 11 players who play 2 games in a DGW. Even just a full front 7, the points potential from a DGW WC is much greater. See if you can stabilise your squad and patch it up over the next 2GWs. You could WC and have the International break mess it all up again0

I heard a stat the other day that Fulham have give away more corners than any other team in the league. 😯

Whittingham (Fulham away) and Brady (West Ham home) are both good options this week IMO. Every time I've benched one, the one benched scores more! Problem is of course, Walcott will drop in price and be out for a little while, and Ozil will go up and be playing. This is the issue. Its difficult to keep Walcott on the bench for this period of time and just rely on cheap midfielders for instance Whittingham, Brady and/or Barkley. Besides, Walcott isn't the only injury, I have van Persie and Chester to worry about. Less so Chester because he is only £4.0m and I think I can manage that, but If worst come to the worst, I might not even be able to field 11 if I keep two injured players on the bench. (Look at gameweek 5 with all the subs coming in) So taking into account everything here and that many people are taking hits/playing wildcards this week. I think a - 4 this week is well played. A - 8 could also prove good, but you are pushing it!

I heard a stat that corners are worth 0.022 of a goal. Basically worthless.

Any chance I'll manage to get 3 defenders playing out of this lot for the weekend or should I take a hit to lose one of them?

    Koscielny Toure Clichy Ward Chester

    2.2 million in the bank.

Unlucky! I would take a hit for Clichy to Vidic.

        Clichy to walker i reckon

If United perform like they did against City anyone could score against them.

Chesters out, obviously. But if you ask me, its a waste of a transfer. Chester is good for £4.0m and you can spend elsewhere. Unless of course you want to upgrade him while he is injured with the 2.2m in the bank.

I would of thought Kos will play, I think Liverpool will play Toure and Sakho, so Toure's good. Clichy could be out, as could Ward.

Personally, I wouldnt make a transfer, just stick Clichy in with Kos and Toure. If Clichy doesnt play then just hope Ward does.

        Cheers.. Good reasoning..

Tempted by Clichy -> Vidic or Chester -> Wilson, will leave it for now and see if there's any news on Clichy before the weekend.

Seem like a strange question, but who to play, Zab against Villa or Collins against Hull? At the moment I'm going with Zab, but if Benteke returns then I'll really not be sure who to bench.

Zab against Villa. No Benteke. Hull scored 3 away against Newcastle, who in their previous games looked quite solid.

I have both Zabaleta and Collins so I'm making the same choice as you...

Already on -4 after dropping Benteke and getting in Sturridge and Michu. Should I drop an extra 4 to swap RVP for Rooney before his price rise?

If RvP is ruled out this weekend, does this make Rooney almost a nailed on captaincy choice?

i think people have become a bit blasé regarding him because his 2 rests came in non premier league matches. which ever way you look at it it's still rotated in 2 of the last 4 matches. it's far from ideal

It is basically a straight choice between Ivan and Cole for a Chelsea defender, isn't it?

FPL towers were seriously on their game with pricing this year. Almost spooky prescience for the vast majority of calls.
