Arsene Wenger has this afternoon confirmed Theo Walcott is set to be sidelined with the stomach problem that forced him out of Sunday’s win over Stoke.

Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek Capital One Cup clash against West Brom, the Gunners boss revealed:

“Theo will be out for a few weeks. He has developed some damage to his posterior abdominal wall. It’s not a hernia, but it’s a little structural problem in his abdomen. He will have the procedure in Germany on Wednesday and, because it’s so minor, we can begin his rehab immediately. We are pleased it’s being dealt with quickly and he shouldn’t miss too many Arsenal matches. But he will miss the forthcoming international matches with England.”

The news is now set to spark a selling spree across the Fantasy games as Walcott owners assess the midfield landscape in light of his absence. Ruled out for the next two league matches at least, he will certainly miss back-to-back trips to Swansea and West Brom and with a two-week international break following on from the Hawthorns clash, the exodus will continue at pace.

Given the Gunners’ upcoming kind run of games, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are immediate alternatives for those looking to invest in Wenger’s midfield – the latter has already risen 0.3 in price this week, while Ozil is primed for an overnight price hike following his trio of assists against the Potters. With Swansea and Tottenham also bracing themselves for kind schedules, Michu and Christian Eriksen will surely now pick up in ownership as the already-hectic market goes into overdrive.

Fantasy managers were also handed a heads-up by David Moyes earlier this afternoon with the news that Robin Van Persie is almost certainly ruled out of United’s Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool tomorrow evening.

Speaking to the media in today’s press conference, the Red Devils boss offered a somewhat pessimistic prognosis on the Dutchman, who missed Sunday’s 4-1 mauling at the hands of City in the first Manchester derby of the season:

“I don’t think Robin van Persie will play on Wednesday, but he has an outside chance for Saturday.”

With United set to face West Brom at Old Trafford this weekend, the potential for significant Fantasy points is obvious and the vast majority of the Dutchman’s owners will be reluctant to ship him out.

Given that the champions also entertain Southampton and Stoke and have trips to Sunderland and Fulham in the next five, the schedule looks primed for Van Persie to return to form after a disappointing run of games has seen him notch just once – via the spot – since the opening day of the season.

A swap for Wayne Rooney grows more appealing by the day, though. The former Everton man has now struck in back-to-back matches and has now overtaken Van Persie in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game on 24 points to his team-mate’s 21 – with a far kinder price tag (10.6 to 14.0) and vastly inferior ownership (6% to 41%), Rooney seems to have his spark back under Moyes and his acquisition would also free up much-needed funds for Van Persie owners to bolster the rest of their squads.

It may well be that Van Persie makes it in time for tomorrow’s match, though, and Moyes is simply keeping his cards close to his chest as he plots a return to winning ways after the weekend humbling. The Scotsman was notoriously reluctant to reveal team news during his time at Everton, with his penchant for discussing “knocks and niggles” proving frustrating for Fantasy plans.

The Dutchman’s owners will be hoping Moyes is a little more transparent with the injury updates over the next few days – as last weekend showed, vice-captains and bench options look key for those who chose to hold Van Persie if he remains a doubt heading into the weekend’s deadline.

Currently no other sources out there on this Ramsey injury that I can find and frankly, I'm not sure how reliable the Moose is. I remember him saying that he had heard reports Jurgen Klopp had got the Liverpool job the day before they appointed Rodgers

That's why I was asking, there are so many.

I currently have Soldado, RVP, Benteke and 2FTs. I don't want Giroud as I have 2 Arsenal players and I'm concerned about Lukaku starting.

That probably leaves me Rooney, Sturridge and Suarez to choose from.

Afterall the fuss about van Persie, somehow, someway, we always find a way to get the pricey players in. Because cheap players who we never even looked at or considered before gameweek 1 always materialize once the game is up and running.

He could be a good pick. I got him at 7.0M so he was a steal for me. 7.5 is still worth it, he could have further rises especially if he scores well this week. If he gets more than a goal these next 2 weeks he will probably be 8.0M when we come back from the international break.

Struggling with this at the moment. Would really appreciate some advice.

No FT (already brought in Rooney this week for Soldado). £0 in the bank.

    Boruc (Speroni)

    Shaw, Coleman, Nastasic (Turner, Chester)

    Ozil, Walcott, Eriksen, HBA (Barkley)

    Benteke, Rooney, Giroud

I'm a bit of a hit addict so I am not averse to taking some if you feel it's necessary. I'm thinking of Walcott -> Hazard, Benteke -> Sturridge, which would again leave me with £0 in the bank. However, if I could squeeze Suarez in somehow that'd be awesome.

    Any comments appreciated, cheers.

This is what I'm thinking. Really dont want to lose him for Rooney unless I absolutely have to. I will play him and captain him this week, if he doesnt make the West Brom game then I've got Lukaku vice-captain and one of Brady or Whittingham to come in.

One of them is bound to do well.

I'd do both. The cash from the Rooney transfer will be great for the rest of your team, and at the moment it doesn't seem like there's much difference between RVP and Rooney except the price and that Rooney is even in better form.

For those doubting Suarez match fitness, he played during pre-season and during last international break for Uruguay. Add to this he is certain to start tomorrow night against Utd.

Tott vs Chel at weekend do, you would need a 0-0 for that to work out

What a weird start to the fantasy football season.

People are drafting players in and they are getting injured straight away before they've even kicked a ball.

I will have one memory that I will keep forever and ever though and it is....

    Walcott (c) Benteke (vc)

      I agree. Its very frustrating.

Last week I was forced to transfer out 2 injured players (Cazorla, Coutinho) in order to have a decent first XI. This week its another hit for Walcott and Benteke. And I still have 2 long term injuries on the bench.

      They're dropping like flies.

....and nobody is setting the world alight either.

Everything is a gamble so far.

If you didnt laugh, you'd have to cry how bad the start has been.

I share that memory. And I spent a while agonizing over Benteke vs Ozul as VC.....

One last time, all aboard - - it's time to Vote!

    1. wally + barfa => özil + brady (-8)
leaves enough money for sturridge => suarez next week

    2. bench walcott this gw, then gw7 walcott => brady?, gw8 sturridge => suarez or barfa => özil

aaargh, too tired for this, I think I'll just make that 1. and feel sad later!

Hi Guys this is my squad, thinking with the RVP, Walcott and Benteke injuries (and to a lesser extent Ward) I have to wildcard. Shame missed on price changes last changes last few days but is it correct decision to do it now?

    Mignolet, Harper
    Koscielny, Terry, Turner, Clyne, Ward
Ben Arfa, Walcott, Berady, Mirallas, Ravel Morrison
    RVP. Sturridge, Benteke

    Thanks

Could be WC time yeah. Walcott and Benteke need sorting for sure. AlthoughRVP could play at the weekend, he's naturally a fit player.
Giroud's a must-have until at least Jan and Michu looks to have found form.

Could do Michu & Giroud in for Benteke & Walcott and save wildcard, what do you think? Moyes' comments on RVP today were not encouraging either

      Similar to me Henry.

I think I'm too late to WC now as missed price rises for last 2 days now, so I'm going to stick with my original plan to WC in GW 8 during the International break.

No doubt more of these bone china players will get injured then. I'll muddle through with what I've got till then.

Is it a waste playing it now Nomar as you said we have missed the price changes? Not ideal indeed but the injuries are killing me!

I hate hits but went for the -8 save the wildcard for the right moment when your changing least 5 players round I'd say.

Wildcard is precious but my team looks in trouble with the injuries mounting, not sure what to do right now. Never taken a -8 in all my years playing

Anyone give me the low-down on Ward-Prowse? Seems wrong to transfer out before Palace at home, but he's no longer nailed on by the looks of things?

    (Would be swapping for Brady).

I'd do the switch. Even if Ward-Prowse plays it's still the sensible move.

I have Ward-Prowse as well and would get rid if I could.
