Injuries to some of the Premier League’s biggest stars have dominated discussion amongst the community, with wildcards and hits falling like confetti. We also catch up on those in far better health in our community leagues.

Hottest Topic

Greenwindmill posed a timely question this week. Given injuries to Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott (and with Robin Van Persie still a doubt for the weekend), our moderator contemplated just how we judge whether a hit is worthwhile or not. Among those to answer was Brutus619, who puts forward a good case for hits and an even better case for inclusion in a forthcoming Scoutcast Full Jonty.

Many Fantasy Football managers almost fainted when they saw Robin Van Persie had been handed a 14m price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season. But even though other strikers such as Olivier Giroud have outscored him for a fraction of his price, Jonny believes his price may have been perfect. His reasoning is that despite a volatile market in the last two weeks  in the FPL game, RVP’s ownership has remained relatively steady. Could he remain 14m for the rest of the season? Even though he missed last Sunday’s Manchester derby, RVP has still not dropped in price this week.

For those considering drafting in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the likes of Van Persie or Benteke, Blue Lion’s post will prove fruitful reading. With another loan move under his belt the young striker looks prime for points, he argues. This was certainly the case against West Ham.

Wakey’s regular Falling Stars posts offer a welcome antidote to those of us with jerky knees, looking to transfer out poor performers. Each week he profiles a selection of players who have dropped in value to show how sometimes it is worth hanging on to unfashionable players. Stephane Sessegnon, who is 0.3m cheaper than his starting price, is among his pick of the Gameweek 5 Falling Stars.

HeelsOverHead has been delving into the history books to see which of the current crop of Premier League players have the best track record of hattricks and braces. Turns out there are nine current Premier League players who managed a hat-trick last season. Find out who they are here.

The penny has long since dropped that the bonus point system favours defenders. But could this mean we experience the first season where defenders become the highest scorers in FPL? Going into Gameweek 5 Ryan found that nine teams had a defender as their highest scoring player. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?

One of this week’s most popular hot topics, with 30 votes at the time of writing, was Portsmouth Bubblejet’s epic look at the best rotation options over the coming weeks. Certainly plenty to ponder there as we look to prepare our teams for the weeks ahead.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHeads’ Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, now has five out of the 23 teams that entered in the top 1,000,000. Bales of Fury continues to lead the league with an overall rank of 344,013.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix‘s Friends Life competition the three league leaders are Forca, Daniel and Thomass.

Meanwhile, the five league leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things…. leagues are TheRealAVB, Tommy Tour, LawnDart, Mind over Mata and Binij.

LawnDart topped Torres Magic’s Early Bird league with a score of 64. Just 14 survivors remain, but entry is still open for more to join. In his Last Man Standing league 847 are left.

Those successfully traversing the It’s A Long And Winding Road (LAWR) H2H leagues are TommyTour59, Turbo Dog, IAmSuarez, Beric, Super Hans, ManAmongst and DonTheSpecialOne. TommyTour59 is also the LAWR main league leader.

Elsewhere, the 552-strong UEFA FFS FA Cup kicks off this week with its preliminary round. Team allocations and the Preliminary Round Draw will be posted on the FFS Uefa website by Friday, Sept 27.

well, last time I captained RvP v WBAm he came off the bench and got me 10 points

Meanwhile, in the evening kick-off Theo Walcott (my vc) scored 3 and made 2 for a 26 point haul in a match against a team from the north east.

What's the evening kick-off this GW?

With his history of injury would you risk him against West Brom just for the sake of maybe an extra goal or two? When you could give him a few extra days to make sure he's 100%?

Like a few of us my team is a mess and I have prioritised getting rid of Walcott and Benteke. I looked at a few combinations and thought I may as well share and hopefully get some feedback/inspiration.

Michu and Sturridge + fixtures and form - Suarez may have negative impact on Sturridge

Michu could be replaced by Oscar, Eriksen or Yaya.
Sturridge could be exchanged for Giroud.

Suarez and Valencia + fixtures and class - Suarez may not fire straight off/Bit of a punt

Valencia could be replaced by Brady, Ben Arfa, Ramsey, Paulinho or Arnautovic.
Suarez could be swapped with Aguero or Rooney.

Ozil and Lukaku + assist machine and the beast - will Lukaku rotate?

Oddly no one sticks out as a replacement for Ozil.
Lukaku could be replaced by Berbatov, Lambert, Remy, Bony.

Sturridge and Michu is my favourite but if Suarez impacts Sturridge I will have to downgrade until Benteke is back.

      I have decided to wait a week on Walcott. I want more time to decide the next move and am willing to lose the money to have the time. Shortlist is;

      A. Lamela
      B. Eriksen
      C. Paulinho
      D. Kagawa
      E. Valencia
      F. Moses

i've same problem, plus others. already did walcott to ozil and thinking benteke for a hit to either sturridge, or someone cheap like bent freeing up funds elsewhere.

think sturridge and michu are a sound option though. slightly worried about suarez, but there's every chance he'll help sturridge get more points

hmm don't agree they scored well when they played together in fact suarez i think had only 1 goal more. i just think until atleast 5 games then we'll see the best of Suarez and in that time i think studge will outscore him. obviously the plan is to get studge to suarez when he looks sharp

I've not had any problems with my ipad. A few of the new features might be a bit awkward to adjust to (there's now a pop up menu at the bottom of the screen that works like the notifications one at the top and I regularly pull this up by accident when web browsing). Also my backgrounds will no longer fit properly (there's probably a simple enough fix to this for someone more technically capable than me). Overall they're little things - but it's not like the new system will blow you away so hardly any harm in waiting a bit longer.

Option 1 - Take him out for one of Negredo, Lambert or Sturridge. -4

Option 2 - Leave it this week. Play front 7:
Erikson, Ben Arfa, Barkley, Michu, Brady.
    Rooney, Giroud
And then work Suarez in next week.

Probably a stupid question...will Benteke drop or is his price locked? Not sure whether to get him out for Giroud for -4 or bench him and start Barkley.

    Cheers,

With his red flag, I think he requires double the number of transfers to drop. He's on 94% to go down so it will be tonight or tomorrow, I'm afraid.

This site baffles me at times. Everyone cooing over Rooney and Suarez, while Chicharito and Sturridge will return the FPL points.

Yes, these players are world class but we're playing FPL and you're picking the link player rather than the goalscorer.

And why folk are picking Rooney and Suarez over Aguero this week, is beyond me. Aguero(c).

Good point. Although, Suarez managed to score plenty last year.

Aguero is a rotation risk at all times. And Chicharito will be benched 90% of the time.

This is a very good point but when I see Sturridge in my team, I die a little bit inside.

Chicharito has 30 total minutes in the league this season so far. Yeah, he's really returning the FPL points isn't he?!

Geez, you could stick Jonny Evans up front.. I'm not saying get Chicho or Evans for that matter. The point is your getting the player which you see all the time on the ball but may provide the assist or worse, assist the assister.

If RVP is out then Rooney does have all set pieces in his locker. That's in his favour.

People are picking rooney and Suarez over aguero because Aguero is more likely to be rotated. villa, while a better defense than Brom, have conceded much less than Sunderland.

Youre crazy for thinking chicharito will take points off of rooney: Chicharito may not even start.

As for sturridge...that one I agree. Will outscore Suarez for certain.

Whether you think Aguero will be rotated in the PL is a matter of opinion. We can't prove it until we look back at the end of the season.

Rooney and Suarez are support strikers. Yes, they can lead the line, but they're not often utilised as such. Therefore, there is always someone else to finish off the attacking moves and take your FPL points.

For me, Rooney and Suarez = Eriksen, Michu, HBA, Ozil, etc. I'd rather have the striker - RVP, Sturridge, etc. (Ha, not going to mention Soldado :))

I have 2.2 in the bnk Walcott and Benteke, just one free tranfer. Who do you recommen between these: Rooney, Sturridge, Suarez, Lukaku, Michu, Ramsey

I did Michu + Sturridge, but didn't have anything in the bank to go bigger.

Also consider Aguero away to Villa. Tottenham put 4 past them midweek while City have now scored 9 goals in 2 games. Benteke out will have a negative morale effect on the Villa team, imo.

    Mignolet
    Baines, Clyne, Vidic, Williams, Burner
    Erikson, Brady, Oscar, XXX, XXX
    Sturridge, Rooney, Giroud

    A) Ozil, 4.5 (Ravel?)

Feel free to rip it to shreds. It's been a tough one to do. Got to the point where I might just do this on Sat morning and to hell with the consequences.

Trying to crowbar Baines/Walker/Vid/Ozil/Michu/Suarez/Rooney in without great TV isn't easy.

    Boruc 4
    Baines Vidic Walker Clyne Turner
    Ozil Michu Moses Barkley Jedinak
    Suarez Rooney Lambert

Thinking behind it is that the defence takes care of itself, happy to play Barkley as my fourth mid and the option of switching Lambert to Lukaku if he gets gametime.

Like it apart from Lambert. While I really like Lambert as a player and love that he's an England player now, he's just not scoring in the league. Better off going Lukaku I'd say and take the punt he gets regular pitch time.
