Injuries to some of the Premier League’s biggest stars have dominated discussion amongst the community, with wildcards and hits falling like confetti. We also catch up on those in far better health in our community leagues.

Hottest Topic

Greenwindmill posed a timely question this week. Given injuries to Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott (and with Robin Van Persie still a doubt for the weekend), our moderator contemplated just how we judge whether a hit is worthwhile or not. Among those to answer was Brutus619, who puts forward a good case for hits and an even better case for inclusion in a forthcoming Scoutcast Full Jonty.

Many Fantasy Football managers almost fainted when they saw Robin Van Persie had been handed a 14m price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season. But even though other strikers such as Olivier Giroud have outscored him for a fraction of his price, Jonny believes his price may have been perfect. His reasoning is that despite a volatile market in the last two weeks  in the FPL game, RVP’s ownership has remained relatively steady. Could he remain 14m for the rest of the season? Even though he missed last Sunday’s Manchester derby, RVP has still not dropped in price this week.

For those considering drafting in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the likes of Van Persie or Benteke, Blue Lion’s post will prove fruitful reading. With another loan move under his belt the young striker looks prime for points, he argues. This was certainly the case against West Ham.

Wakey’s regular Falling Stars posts offer a welcome antidote to those of us with jerky knees, looking to transfer out poor performers. Each week he profiles a selection of players who have dropped in value to show how sometimes it is worth hanging on to unfashionable players. Stephane Sessegnon, who is 0.3m cheaper than his starting price, is among his pick of the Gameweek 5 Falling Stars.

HeelsOverHead has been delving into the history books to see which of the current crop of Premier League players have the best track record of hattricks and braces. Turns out there are nine current Premier League players who managed a hat-trick last season. Find out who they are here.

The penny has long since dropped that the bonus point system favours defenders. But could this mean we experience the first season where defenders become the highest scorers in FPL? Going into Gameweek 5 Ryan found that nine teams had a defender as their highest scoring player. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?

One of this week’s most popular hot topics, with 30 votes at the time of writing, was Portsmouth Bubblejet’s epic look at the best rotation options over the coming weeks. Certainly plenty to ponder there as we look to prepare our teams for the weeks ahead.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHeads’ Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, now has five out of the 23 teams that entered in the top 1,000,000. Bales of Fury continues to lead the league with an overall rank of 344,013.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix‘s Friends Life competition the three league leaders are Forca, Daniel and Thomass.

Meanwhile, the five league leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things…. leagues are TheRealAVB, Tommy Tour, LawnDart, Mind over Mata and Binij.

LawnDart topped Torres Magic’s Early Bird league with a score of 64. Just 14 survivors remain, but entry is still open for more to join. In his Last Man Standing league 847 are left.

Those successfully traversing the It’s A Long And Winding Road (LAWR) H2H leagues are TommyTour59, Turbo Dog, IAmSuarez, Beric, Super Hans, ManAmongst and DonTheSpecialOne. TommyTour59 is also the LAWR main league leader.

Elsewhere, the 552-strong UEFA FFS FA Cup kicks off this week with its preliminary round. Team allocations and the Preliminary Round Draw will be posted on the FFS Uefa website by Friday, Sept 27.

I think so, he is due to pick up IMO although rooney is on fire atm, the only reason I would do it is if you WC then spend the money in your midfield, whats your team setup?

Morning Dz 🙂 how are you all doing?

On a WC, which defense do you prefer:

    A; evra • coleman • WILLIAMS • ROSENIER • 4m or a 4.5m?
    - evra, coleman as permanent fixtures...swan/hull rotate great for next 10gw (will start a swan def 6 times)...as this accounts for 3 def...not sure how much to spend on the final def i.e. burner vs. wilson...provide cover for injuries/player rests etc.

    B: evra • coleman • Nasty/mertesacker • 4m • 4m
    - have 4 big hitters and play them regardless of fixtures

Both A/B cost the same....leaning towards A as its more balanced plus nasty/mertesacker dont have the best fixtures for cs according to Rmt

    Opinions please:)

      you're on WC
just use this defense I will pick for you

      Clyne Dawson Wilson (solis)
Coleman (if you bought at low price), if not then Nasty

          lol thanks...
          - dawson is a gametime risk with kaboul and vlad..can only plan defender rotations etc if you know that your def is going to start..hence went for a swan def with good fix
          - already have boruc and although is great value, recommend doubling up in defense?
          - bought coleman at 5m
          - agree on wilson
          - vidic is a good option but evra is the flair option 😉

Cheers, I think I'm missing a reference with Ibrahimovic though, I assume Amautovic? I take it you think Dawson is nailed on? Because the fear of rotation is the only thing making me opt for Walker. I'm happy with Turner + 0.4 over Clyne to be honest, I have enough tough bench decisions as it is without adding another defender I'd want to play more often than not.

Soton's next 6 fixtures (CPL, SWA, mun,FUL, sto, HUL). While a defensive asset seems like a no-brainer, I'm weighing up an attacking option. Lambert is the obvious choice, however with a plethora of forward options, and only 3 slots, I'm going to overlook him. None of their midfielders particularly jump out at me, but I believe the only viable options are Lallana and Schneiderlin.

Lallana - Pros: plays in a more advanced role; good assist record (particularly in the championship); on some set pieces (corners?); captain
    Cons: rarely completes 90 minutes

Schneiderlin - Pros: cheaper; should get forward a little more than last season with the intro of Wanyama; decent in the air; more nailed on
    Cons: still a defensive midfielder

The obvious downside of both of these options is that Saints haven't exactly been free-scoring as of yet this season. But hopefully that will change with the upturn in fixtures.

I'm tempted to take a punt on one of these two, and am leaning towards Schneiderlin. He outscored Lallana by 15 points last season and played 1000 minutes more. I believe he could turn out to be a nice differential in the coming weeks (2.2% ownership) and may be a viable alternative to the likes of Barkley and Arnautovic should he recapture last season's form.

Eriksen -> Ozil (obviously a big upgrade but cash is an issue)
Sturridge -> Rooney/Lukaku (don't like being doubled up on Liverpool's attack)
Dawson -> Walker/Vert (more nailed on and better bonus potential, particularly the latter)
Kim -> Whittingham/Brady (on penalties and set pieces, Kim is far from nailed on)

Here is what I came up with, haven't WC'd yet

        Mignolet (Boruc)
Dawson (too expensive to trade up) - VIDIC - Coleman (Brayford - Lowton)
        OZIL - Michu - Barkley - Moses (Kim Bo-Kyung)
        ROONEY - Giroud - SUAREZ

        RMT (potential)

Not enough Arsenal cover IMO. I'd use the RVP cash and upgrade Moses to Ozil. At the very least Moses to Ramsey and upgrade a defender to Zaba or José

Suarez will outscore Sturridge in the long term (and probably in the short term as well), it will all depend on whether you can spend the extra cash better elsewhere.

Don't worry too much about rank right now. Look instead at your team.

If you feel you need to WC, then bear in mind that if you activate it, it will cancel out all hits taken this week.

    A) Chester > Walker and save 1.6m, perhaps to be used on my strikerforce, currently Soldado, Studge and Lambert, or

    B) ust go for Chester > Baines?

I'll give Lambert and Soldado another week then consider Rooney/Giroud

Your strike force is fine IMO. Lambert to Lukaku at some point perhaps

I've got a more expensive frontline and I'm missing som Baines in my team :-/
