Headliners Wayne Rooney and Boaz Myhill produced the goods last week, while Yohan Cabaye also chipped in before succumbing to a groin problem at home to Hull. We cast an eye over this week’s PlayON price list and get scouting in search of bargains once again.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a seasoned player, read on for our selection of early weekend targets…

Gameweek 6 Picks

Goalkeeper – David Marshall
This week there are four regular keepers all under the 8.0m bracket but the Cardiff stopper looks the most enticing option. Marshall’s heroics against Tottenham last Sunday earned him 1,400 points on PlayON and a trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday to face a Fulham side with one goal in their last three league appearances make the Bluebirds stopper strong value at 7.8m. The other three budget keepers for your perusal are Kieran Westwood (7.0m), Brad Guzan (7.5m) and Boaz Myhill (7.7m) but with games against Liverpool, City and United respectively, their prospects look a little bleaker.

Defender – Vincent Kompany
Having only just returned from injury, the City skipper is available for a bargain 9.2m this week. Kompany rolls up to Villa Park on Saturday and with the midlands outfit devoid of talisman Christian Benteke, the visitors’ chances of a clean sheet seems far more likely – bearing in mind Pablo Zabaleta will set you back 11.4m, Kompany looks a relatively cut-price route into Manuel Pellegrini’s backline. Scouring the budget bracket, there are plenty of options for those willing to take a gamble with one or two of their picks – United’s Rafael is back from injury and is priced at 7.3m ahead of a home clash with West Brom, West Ham summer signing Razvan Rat (8.0m) seems to have finally established himself as first-choice left-back and heads to Hull this weekend, while Fulham’s Fernando Amorebieta (8.1m) made his first start last time out and will be confident of returns at home to a Cardiff side with one goal in the last three Gameweeks.

Midfielder – Mikel Arteta
Similar to Kompany, the Arsenal midfielder’s recent return from injury ensures his price remains in the budget bracket. Arteta is available for a mere 6.2m this weekend and with Arsene Wenger sweating over the fitness of Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini, the Spaniard looks set for his first league start of the season and has penalty duties to also boost his points potential. With doubts hanging over Leon Osman, Darron Gibson is likely to return to the Everton starting line-up and at 5.9m, the Toffees midfielder looks a steal. Hull’s Stephen Quinn comes in at just 6.9m for the home game against West Ham – he has recently returned to the Tigers first-team as a result of Robert Koren’s injury, while the playmaking talents of Robert Snodgrass (7.6m) could be the difference for Norwich as they head to the Britannia.

Forward – Luis Suarez
Set to play his first league game since a 10-match suspension, the Liverpool forward is the cheapest frontline option in this week’s PlayON price list and heads to basement-dwellers Sunderland this weekend. Coming in at just 7.0m (compared to Daniel Sturridge’s 11.7m) Suarez looks set to torment the managerless Black Cats and will be handed plenty of opportunity to hog the headlines as the Merseysiders look to bounce back from last week’s shock home loss to Southampton. Romelu Lukaku remains kind on the budget at 9.3m and looks poised for his first league start after emerging from the bench to grab the winner at West Ham. Further up the price scale, Wayne Rooney is the luxury option at 11.6m – regardless of Robin Van Persie’s availability for Man United’s home game with West Brom, the former Everton man has done enough to justify our faith and has scored in back-to-back league matches.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off – 10.45 on Sat morning), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 64% win rate so far!

Facebook and Twitter £50 Competitions

In addition to guaranteeing a £500 pot this week, PlayON is also running a competition on its Facebook and Twitter pages to celebrate the return of Luis Suarez to league action. The two people that come up with the best captions for the Suarez picture on their Facebook and Twitter pages will each earn £50 of Free Credit – more Facebook and Twitter competitions on the way from PlayON over the course of the season too.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for free bragging rights or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

    (form previous page)

    Wildcard dilemma:

a.) GK combo of Boruc and Vorm, plus Wilson
b.) GK combo of Boruc and Davis, plus Mertesacker

(other defenders are Baines, Zaba, Vidic and Clyne)

    Thanks!

The Scouts seem to think it's because of GJ's absence that they are going with 3 at the back..

Actually now I think about it I remember suggesting when Sakho signed that Rodgers fancied playing with wing backs and was shut down.

I can see him sticking with 3 at the back because as you say he has alot of central defs who are all good enogh to be starting.

I suppose we wont know for sure til GJ is back but having the 3-5-2 means suarez wont have to play wide if coutinho is in the hole once fit which would happen in the 4 -2-3-1 formation.

I thought they looked both solid and fluid and fluid on it. Rodgers did say it was a situation that was forced on them by injuries, and nothing has changed on that front. He seemed pleased that it had worked out quite well but the way he was talking still sounded to me like it wouldn't be used all that often if they had a choice.

Thanks Roscola. I remember Rodgers talking up playing wing backs before his first PL season with Swansea but they didn't have the personnel. Once they were safe that season he used it a few times, the catch was Monk was 3rd CB and even Wolves scored a few on them 🙂

          His quote:

“It is probably something that has been forced upon us really, in terms of the players we have available. In the game at the weekend [against Southampton], I’ve never in my life ever played four centre-halves in any game. Anybody who knows me and knows my work, knows that’s not how I would operate. But when you have no choice that’s what you’ve got to do. If we had to play that system again for a period of time until players are fit then, we obviously need to work more on it but it’s something that you can see the players are comfortable in. It gives us three players to dominate midfield, gives us the two strikers up front that are arguably up there with the top strikers in the league, and it still keeps us secure at the back. If we need to play it again, I think we can play it well.”

I'd punt HBA or Eriksen, hell maybe even Lampard if he gets back in the side. Baines won't score 2 free kicks every week and I don't think Everton will keep tons of clean sheets either, so I can see him being top 5 in defence, but beaten by the guys I mentioned earlier.

I really don't like questions like this to be honest.

Unless you are going 4 at the back right now and choosing between Baines and a midfielder of course, but in which case I'd say get a 4th midfielder and have Baines as a 3 man defence.

Then again 4-3-3 is getting a bit of love lately.

Baines is not worth it with 3 at the back. There is better value in Ivan, Zabs, Vidic etc. They will get more cleansheets.

He is value when compared to 8.2 midfielder however. (the reason for this is you if you downgrade baines to 3.9 you can upgrade a 4.5 mid to 8.2.)

Right now there is a good 4 team rotation available (UTD, LIV, TOT, STOKE) for the next 4 GWs which promises numbers clean sheets. However from GW 10 onwards a great rotation doesn't present itself which then it would be smart to ditch Baines to make a good 5 team rotation. and upgrade to 3-4-3. If you would like me to explain futher I will later on.

There is a good 4 team rotation available (UTD, TOT, LIV, STO) which promises 3 good fixtures for CSs each week.

        3 strong mids

        3 good strikers

Thus there is 1 spot available. Baines vs Ben Arfa or so....

From GW 10 it gets tricky and I think Baines is not worth it as there is not an exceptional 4 team rotation avaible and thus I would have to make it a 5 team rotation and downgrade Baines to Nastasic or so and upgrade one of my 4.4 mids to Sessegnon or someone similar

I am getting worried about my team now. Not currently happy with it, im on my WC and I plan on having a few beers tonight. Not a good idea sorting your team out when drunk at the best of times but with a Wild Card I am going to make some strange decisions.

Hi all, my fpl team is currently plagued by injuries and i'd appreciate some advice, as it's being a rough start and I find when your in an FPL slump, it's good to get perspective before making a rash move!

I got rid of Walcott last night, for Ramsey (sods law if he is injured now). Already have Giroud, so happy enough with that Arsenal Coverage! My other two injured players in the squad are Benteke and Chester. I have used my FT and can get a decent team out this weekend, so i'm thinking of holding Benteke until next week and see if we get more news. I have 5+m in the bank, so can afford any replacement id like if needed.

Originally I had money in the bank to bring Suarez in for Sturridge this week, but with the tekkers injury that plan is sunk.

The team I can put out this week without a hit is:

    Migs

    Wilson, Coleman, Dawson

Michu(C), Ramsey(VC), Barkley, Eriksen, Ben Arfa

    Sturridge, Giroud

    Lewis, Turner, Benteke, Chester

Should I hold firm, or take a hit and bring in a replacement for Benteke (RVP/Suarez/Rooney) or Chester (Baines, Vidic, Mert)?

TLDR: Take a hit this week or not due to injuries 🙂

    Thanks all.

I'm sure it's been asked before but A)

    Oscar and Sturridge
    or
    Paulinho and Suarez

And B) 3rd striker Lukaku. would it be madness to bolster him up to Giroud. 2million in cash can be well spent elsewhere or is Gru essential? Have Ozil.

Depends if wanna play it safe or go for flair this early on. I'd go Oscar and Studge and Giroud.

Looks like they'll manage him until the international break, then do the Hernia op. Hernias have a pretty quick turnaround but even with the international break he'll miss at least one match - but maybe not too many more than that.

Realistically your choices are Sturridge but no money? Lambert decent fixtures but no form. Lukaku not guaranteed enough game time. I'd actually probably go for Berbatov or Bent, Fulham have very nice fixtures.

As an Aguero owner I am obviously gutted but we have to accept this is the risk with any Man City forward. Doesn't mean he isn't worth keeping though.

Maybe the site could do an analysis of rotation this season vs last - is there more going on and what difference does it make over a season?

    @ Doosra

If arsenal come up with a blank/ low scoring game, then there is a much lower chance of points considering 2 of your midfielders are from arsenal

And surely Ramsey crazy goal scoring form will end sometime soon?

Oh and btw, what's your reasoning behind having Adrian in your team? Why not Lewis or a 4.0 keeper, Adrian isn't the 1st choice keeper. Is he?

      Always value any opinion

      Boruc/Davies
      Zab/Toure/Coleman/Ward/Chester
      Ozil/HBA/Brady/Michu/Nolan
      Rooney/Giroud/Lambert

Going 3-4-3 so subs are last ones on each line. Took a -4 to get to this with Wally and Tekkers for Ozil and Rooney. Good to go?
