Headliners Wayne Rooney and Boaz Myhill produced the goods last week, while Yohan Cabaye also chipped in before succumbing to a groin problem at home to Hull. We cast an eye over this week’s PlayON price list and get scouting in search of bargains once again.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a seasoned player, read on for our selection of early weekend targets…

Gameweek 6 Picks

Goalkeeper – David Marshall
This week there are four regular keepers all under the 8.0m bracket but the Cardiff stopper looks the most enticing option. Marshall’s heroics against Tottenham last Sunday earned him 1,400 points on PlayON and a trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday to face a Fulham side with one goal in their last three league appearances make the Bluebirds stopper strong value at 7.8m. The other three budget keepers for your perusal are Kieran Westwood (7.0m), Brad Guzan (7.5m) and Boaz Myhill (7.7m) but with games against Liverpool, City and United respectively, their prospects look a little bleaker.

Defender – Vincent Kompany
Having only just returned from injury, the City skipper is available for a bargain 9.2m this week. Kompany rolls up to Villa Park on Saturday and with the midlands outfit devoid of talisman Christian Benteke, the visitors’ chances of a clean sheet seems far more likely – bearing in mind Pablo Zabaleta will set you back 11.4m, Kompany looks a relatively cut-price route into Manuel Pellegrini’s backline. Scouring the budget bracket, there are plenty of options for those willing to take a gamble with one or two of their picks – United’s Rafael is back from injury and is priced at 7.3m ahead of a home clash with West Brom, West Ham summer signing Razvan Rat (8.0m) seems to have finally established himself as first-choice left-back and heads to Hull this weekend, while Fulham’s Fernando Amorebieta (8.1m) made his first start last time out and will be confident of returns at home to a Cardiff side with one goal in the last three Gameweeks.

Midfielder – Mikel Arteta
Similar to Kompany, the Arsenal midfielder’s recent return from injury ensures his price remains in the budget bracket. Arteta is available for a mere 6.2m this weekend and with Arsene Wenger sweating over the fitness of Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini, the Spaniard looks set for his first league start of the season and has penalty duties to also boost his points potential. With doubts hanging over Leon Osman, Darron Gibson is likely to return to the Everton starting line-up and at 5.9m, the Toffees midfielder looks a steal. Hull’s Stephen Quinn comes in at just 6.9m for the home game against West Ham – he has recently returned to the Tigers first-team as a result of Robert Koren’s injury, while the playmaking talents of Robert Snodgrass (7.6m) could be the difference for Norwich as they head to the Britannia.

Forward – Luis Suarez
Set to play his first league game since a 10-match suspension, the Liverpool forward is the cheapest frontline option in this week’s PlayON price list and heads to basement-dwellers Sunderland this weekend. Coming in at just 7.0m (compared to Daniel Sturridge’s 11.7m) Suarez looks set to torment the managerless Black Cats and will be handed plenty of opportunity to hog the headlines as the Merseysiders look to bounce back from last week’s shock home loss to Southampton. Romelu Lukaku remains kind on the budget at 9.3m and looks poised for his first league start after emerging from the bench to grab the winner at West Ham. Further up the price scale, Wayne Rooney is the luxury option at 11.6m – regardless of Robin Van Persie’s availability for Man United’s home game with West Brom, the former Everton man has done enough to justify our faith and has scored in back-to-back league matches.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off – 10.45 on Sat morning), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 64% win rate so far!

Facebook and Twitter £50 Competitions

In addition to guaranteeing a £500 pot this week, PlayON is also running a competition on its Facebook and Twitter pages to celebrate the return of Luis Suarez to league action. The two people that come up with the best captions for the Suarez picture on their Facebook and Twitter pages will each earn £50 of Free Credit – more Facebook and Twitter competitions on the way from PlayON over the course of the season too.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for free bragging rights or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

It costs you £1.10 and you can win £2 (10p to the site).

Once you get the hang of it, you beat them virtually every week.

In 4 attempts at the multi-player game, I have only got into the winning positions once, so that imo is a bit harder to win, but others use the profit from the one-on-one games to fund the multi-player games. The ones that do well are this that punt successfully on players that may/may not play.

£1.10 per head-to-head, so a £5.50 investment wins you up to £10 if you can beat the FFS team and Opta Joe (best head-to-head records).

Different games. Each one has a different entry amount (from £1.10 up to £110) and depending on entrants, a different size pot and to what place it pays too. They are all explained well on the site.

Well worth a go Isacki. I got hooked very quickly. Simple format, but like anything there is a bit more depth there once you have played a couple of weeks.

          Tips:

          1. Look out for the bargains, just like the article does. Those coming back from injury are cheap as their price is based on recent performance, so Suarez is dirt cheap this week. So fill your team up with these first to give some money to play with, especially if they have good fixtures.

          2. Look next at good fixtures and see who is cheap from those teams. The point scoring isn't quite the same as for FPL, so defender that make a lot of tackles and clearances are good for instance.

          3. Try to balance punts on definite game time, as you get 5 pts per min for each player (i.e. 450 pts for 90 mins). Nothing more frustrating on getting 0pts on a Taarabt punt).

          4. Try to include some heavy hitters, as goals get 1000 pts, plus another 200pts for shot on target (this anomaly will be removed eventually).

I am sure you will pick up on other little strategies, but the above is a good start imo.

There is also a scoring Matrix on the page where you pick your team, so you can see how a player scores points in each position, and then use Opta stats for instance to narrow your team selection down.

    Repost from last page

    On a wildcard this week,
stuck on 2 issues. suggestions needed.

    1. Is Dawson nailed on for Tottenham
    2. Out of Mertesacker, Koscielny and Nastasic, who should I take. tempted towards nastasic coz of villa without benteke and some good fixtures. but ozil's set pieces could give potential points to mertesacker/kosc
additional info- Have Ozil as Arsenal cover and Aguero as city cover,

1.) no, although people will say yes.
2.) Mertesacker, more goal threat, less red cards then Kos. Nastasic is a good pick but could face rotation in 5-6 weeks when demichelis gets back in the picture.

    Mignolet, Marshall
    Terry, Walker, Clyne, Wilson, Reid
Michu, Eriksen, Ben Arfa, Barkley, Whittingham
    Suarez, Giroud, Lambert

    2.1 in the bank

    My doubts are:

    - Whits or Arnautović?
    - Maybe picking Aguero and Sturridge instead of Suarez and Lambert?
    - Or going for Baines and Vertonghen instead of Terry and Walker?

Though i like 2.1 in the bank, gives me an option of getting an emerging big hitter (Chelsea MF, 9.5 FW)

Lambert has good stats as we all know.

        Fixtures:

Crystal Palace (H) - Worst team in the league atm
Swansea (H) - A solid team, but after another EL adventure
Manchester United (a) - Hit the bench lad
Fulham (H) - Topping the "shots concieded charts", pretty bad form

i could swap him out here maybe, but the next two are also ok

Stoke (a) - Tricky fixture that ended 3-2 last year
Hull (H) - Solid team, but still a promoted side at home

This whole rotation risk thing has two parts. One is Man City and Chelsea mids thing. Sure, you never know who will play and rightly so they're worth avoiding. But then there are the Ramsey's, Dawson's and Barkleys and Morrisons. Players who are playing and scoring but who I hear people repeatedly say are rotation risks. I don't understand this. They are playing. They are doing well. They are scoring points. Yes they could get injured or rested soon but this is all guess work. If they do get rotated then move them out. So what? Take the points on in form players and deal with it later if they ever get rotated.

I think this is where the distinction between rotation and dropping is important.

Rotation or "resting" - the manager benches them because they want to play them in a more important game.
Dropping - the manager benches them because they are not the best player in their position.

Navas/Negredo/Aguero/Jovetic/Nasri/Silva fall under the former. Ramsey may fall under the former as the CL hots up, but not the latter imo. Think Dawson, Barkley and Morrison will be a game by game decision based on their form.

As an Arsenal fan its tough to take sides during a Spurs-Chelsea match..

From an FPL prospective I have Ivanovic, hmm 0-0 draw will probably be good

On a wildcard. Team looks like this at the moment.

    Mignolet, Davis
    Coleman, Dawson, Mertesacker/Nastasic, Shaw, BTurner
    Jedinak, Parker, Barkley, Oscar, Ozil
    Suarez, Rooney, Aguero.

    0.4 in bank

opinions please. I know my midfield is not that strong.

surely Giroud over Aguero? I know it means doubling up on Arsenal but it'll also give you an extra 1.8M to upgrade elsewhere

I know. Both Aguero and Giroud are in form. So am not worried about my forwards. Probably am settled in forwards position. It is the midfield that I want to upgrade. Or should I go with this?

Jose Mourinho: "I liked the way Juan Mata played against Swindon. His attitude is very good and his effort was good.

"When in a player makes an effort to come in my direction then I go to him as well. I can imagine from now him working into my way of thinking and I think the natural tendency will for him to be in the team."

Garbage Jose. You mae the glaring error of not playing him it the first place. He played his exact position and role midweek, and excelled in it. Reality is when Mata returns, his role will be the same as last season.
