As David Moyes’ teamsheet leaves the door ajar for an inspired West Brom to silence Old Trafford, Arsenal, driven on by their Welsh starlet once again, grab their opportunity to set the Premier League pace.

The Game Changer

Aaron Ramsey’s extraordinary ascendency continues. A fourth league goal at the Liberty tonight ensured the points for the Gunners and handed Ramsey’s Fantasy owners a second double figure haul, with the Welshman also assisting Serge Gnabry’s opener.

The clamour for Ramsey will now continue and, after two consecutive 0.3 price rises in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, it seems we’re witnessing one the most rapid and relentless bandwagons since Michu burst on to the scene last season.

With Ramsey’s form showing incredible consistency, it seems assured that Wenger will keep him installed as a key figure in his midfield, despite the availability of Mikel Arteta and the impending return of Santi Cazorla. Rest and rotation may eventually bite, even with that risk, Ramsey remains almost impossible to ignore.

His army of Fantasy owners will be rejoicing this evening. The rest will be wondering if they should swallow their pride and get on board, despite missing the rise of 0.7. While it feels like chasing points, those points show little sign of slowing up.

The Underused

Morgan Amilfitano was United’s chief tormenter at Old Trafford. An outstanding display was capped by his second goal in consecutive matches and was coupled with an assist for the Baggies winner. The Frenchman’s impact on the Baggies has been profound and Steve Clarke appears to unearthed a gem.

With maximum bonus on their way, Amilfitano has brought in 24 points in his three Premier League appearances and is now blinking brightly on our radars as a low-to-mid price midfield asset.

His arrival at the Hawthorns created little publicity, with the signings of Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe allowing him to land in the midlands without fanfare. Certainly, his statistics over his previous two seasons at Marseille were underwhelming: two goals and seven assists from 60 league games hardly earmarked him for immediate attention from Fantasy managers.

Three matches in, however, and it’s clear that Amilfitano has been rejuvenated and, despite West Brom’s tough schedule, he represents a major consideration for those looking to free up funds from their midfield.

The Selection Poser

We saw rotation in the United lineup prior to matchday one of the Champions League and, today, it materialised again. While we should not detract from the performance of West Brom, the United teamsheet was surely a contributing factor behind their shock 2-1 reverse.

Defensively, David Moyes’ side were far from secure without the assured presence of Patrice Evra and, in particular Nemanja Vidic. The omission of both ahead of Wednesday’s tie with Shakhtar Donetsk came as a surprise. It was anticipated that Rio Ferdinand would be the more likely to be rotated out, with club captain Vidic hailed only this week by Moyes as the best central defender he’s ever managed.

It remains to be seen if the United boss repeats such a policy in matches to come. Clearly he has options and the means to rotate his defence, making it difficult for Fantasy managers to assess the options on offer at a time when their fixtures had suggested the promise of defensive returns. Today’s lineup and result surely calls for a rethink.

In attack, Robin van Persie was kept on the bench until United were forced to chase the game. While the Dutchman was fit enough for selection, Moyes chose to keep him from the fray and presumably preserve him for European action.

Prior to matchday one of the Champions League in Gameweek 4, Van Persie was replaced with 11 minutes remaining against a 10-man Palace and back then, we highlighted the possibility of limited pitch time to come with Moyes protecting his star asset. Moyes’ decision to start without him today not only provided further frustration for his Fantasy owners, denting Van Persie’s stock once again, it surely provided a boost for visitors West Brom, inspiring them to put on a performance that ultimately proved too much for a weakened and out-of-sorts United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Given up on this week and looking forward to next week already! 🙂
Bench Brady (AVL), Whittingham (NEW), HBA (car), Lukaku (mci)?

probably Lukaku if he doesn't get much game time or doesn't perform well this week. when will Brady have his hernia op? and will he even miss games for it?

Trying desperately not to slag Moyes off.

      Slag him off.

Poor choice of replacement. Never a good idea to let the departing legend choose his successor either.

The man is completely out of his depth and holds little sway in either the transfer market or the dressing room.

That a team like Man Utd could come up with such a poor decision as thinking that Moyes was the answer actually befuddles me.

Managing Everton is very different discipline to managing Utd.

Like you said, no trophies and several brushes with relegation battles really was no grounding for a job like Utd.

I said this when he was appointed too. People trotted out the line that Sir Alex was in a similar position when he joined Utd. He wasn't. He'd already won in Europe and Utd were nowhere remotely close to the juggernaut they are today.

Ironically, they are now turning into the sane kind of middle to lower end of the table club that they were when Sir Alex joined them.

So, I guess Moyes will take them full circle after all then.

I agree but saying we are a mid table club s a bit premature.........still think top 4 should be achieved.

Sadly, I think you have no chance of a top 4 finish as long as Moyes is there.

Your midfield is nowhere near top 4 level and Sir Alex had been getting away with it for years. Moyes won't.

I think Moyes will set you back at least 5 years. I can see what happened to Liverpool after Paisley retired happening to you, but quicker. Sorry, but I fear you'll be on the outside looking in for a while now.

It was always going to be tough following SAF into one of the highest profile jobs in football. The media dubbed him as The Chosen One but most fans knew it wouldn't be easy.

Moyes will stay and he will learn. For example, SAF knew precisely how many players he could leave out and still have a strong team, Moyes learned that yesterday.

Give him 25 years and he'll be OK .

p.s. still don't understand the Kagawa situation though.

    The Brady Conundrum:

For us FPL lads, rarely does a player come along every season, that is so light on your budget, yet so heavy on the points. Last season, it was arguably Michu. This season, it's Robbie Brady.

Week in and out he's proven me wrong when I place him on the bench. For three weeks now, he's been my first sub, but never got into the team. Thanks to Vidic, I get 11 more points this Gameweek.

But as FPL managers, we often face this question: To bench or not to bench? Whom to captain? We are feared beings, and hence play safe every week. Why? Because all of us have had a bad experience in the past.

Take me, for example. Last season, during Arsenal's DGW, I'd captained Szczesny, thinking that he'd prove to be a differential. The outcome? He conceded a penalty, got a yellow, and conceded three goals. Even for this GW, I handed over the armband to Negredo, expecting dividends for placing my faith in the clinical Spaniard, but the result? A convenient blank.

Thus, I ask all of you here, will you put faith in a one-pot-wonder like Brady over a reputed player like Walcott, Hazard, or even Fellaini? I wouldn't.

The people that benched Brady at home to westham, that now get him from the bench don't deserve those points.

What to do with this team?:

      Mignolet,
      Vidic, Koscielny, Collins,
      Michu, Lampard, Moses, Brady,
      Rooney, Suárez, Giroud.

      Daniels, Redmond, Coleman, Chester.

1 FT, £2.1m in the bank.

Lampard -> Ramsey/YayaT a no-brainer? (And which one of the two?) Or keep Lampard as he has Norwich away? But will he even start?

        Hi Jonty.

Ramsey was class before his bad injury, he now looks like he's better than before it.

His work rate is good, touch & vision top notch, can hit a shot from outsider the area and now he's timing his raids into the box to perfection. (Plus he's cheap)

        What's not to like? 🙂

Ramsey looks a good option ATM, even if you missed all the price rises, his positioning seems to be top notch ATM, always at the right place at the right time, and he is in fairly advanced positions too.

Yaya on free kicks adds so much to his appeal. Depending on who else is in the side Yaya has a tendency to get forward as well making late runs into the box. I see no reason why his form can't continue.

As for Ramsey he has the makings of a great player, at 22 years of age the time is now to fulfil his undoubted potential.

No. Both are clearly way over scoring and it won't continue at the same rate. Ramsey does look decent value though and yoyo's new found free kick monopoly might just mean he needs to be re-evaluated as an fpl prospect. I still say hell no at that price though.

A heads up. I bought Ramsey last night, finally caving in. So my advice to all owners is to sell him as soon as you can. Everything I touch turns to 2 points.

Seriously though, I guess it's proof in many ways that too much knowledge can be a bad thing. By which I mean if you have been playing this game for a while, and know that neither Ramsey nor Yaya have ever really done much fantasy-wise, then this kind of thing will burn you badly.

As an example, a friend of mine, new to FPL, picks players he likes. Unfortunately for everyone else in our minileague, he likes Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure 🙁

In answer to your question, no it's not too late for either esp. Ramsey who still represents amazing value.

They can but I don't think they will. Although I'd say Yaya is more likely to if either. I'm staying clear. I'm too far behind to be matching the template players. Of course if they do continue I will be even further behind, but no guts no glory.

I feel Ramsey can continue his form. He's part of Arsenal attacking plays and will surely keep assist/score if Arsenal can continue the good run.

Yaya is more tricky. Member may try to compare him playing with / without Silva in the team.
        And ... Make a conclusion yourself. 😉

Unless their underlying stats improve I believe we will see a decline in their offensive output.

Congrats on keeping Ramsey - less so on Terry. I'm licking my wounds; jettisoned both and Brady on my WC. Cost me 33pts right there. Question now is, do I swallow pride and get Ramsey back for Erik? Extra cash would be ideal....

Have watched every minute he has played for us (and bot him for my team before his debut). Class act but not gelling fantastically with Soldado who contributes very little to our overall game. Soldado is very much a 6yd box player and I would not be surprised to see AVB start Defoe soon to give us a touch more cutting edge. Right now Eriksen is very much assisting the assister but clearly has the quality against the lesser teams to tear them apart with both goals and assists. I'm holding on.

I'm regret to have him actually. He plays brilliant as a number 10 in Spurs right now. But in FPL he is lacking goals compare to Paulinho and Sigurdsson. Eriksen only has big chance for assists in FPL since he takes FK and corner. He has very little chance to score. Paulinho is a better option IMO. Paulinho had chances to score at least 2 goals against Chelsea and Paulinho seems to be the most nailed on midfield in Spurs.

Admittedly, the only time I've seen him play was in last night's game; what a player! For so cheap too?

I currently have Lampard and am looking to swap for Ben Arfa, Eriksen or Sigurdsson. The latter two appear to be more points-stable team-wise. Would going for Sigurdsson be chasing the points of weeks gone by? He seems to be in great form and Eriksen is doing great but might need a little more time before he racks up FPL points.
