Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez make light work of struggling Sunderland, as Brendan Rodgers’ decision to continue with a 3-5-2 formation allows the Reds’ duo the chance to shine:

The Game Changer

A goal and a pair of assists took Daniel Sturridge to the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings this evening as Liverpool eased to victory in Sunderland’s first league match since the dismissal of Paolo Di Canio.

While the spotlight was on Luis Suarez, his Liverpool team-mate was amongst the points yet again as Sturridge atoned for a rare blank against Southampton last weekend with another handful of Fantasy points. Some were wary that Suarez’ return would diminish Sturridge’s potential but the former Chelsea man showed great awareness to tee up both the Uruguayan’s goals as Liverpool climbed to second.

Priced at 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Sturridge – along with Suarez – is set for significant investment over the next few days as the Merseysiders prepare for a home clash with Palace next weekend. While many of the other title contenders now have European commitments to contend with this week, Liverpool can now rest up until the Eagles come calling next Saturday afternoon; a factor that will surely benefit Sturridge as he looks to continue a record that has seen him score in five of the opening six Gameweeks.

The Underused

There was no real surprise that Luis Suarez stole the show on his return to league action earlier today. We handed the Uruguayan the headline act in this week’s Spot the Differential article and he duly delivered with a brace as Liverpool, somewhat significantly, scored more than two goals for the first time this term.

In a season that has mainly proved frustrating for Fantasy managers, Suarez’ instant impact served a reminder of the potential that harvested 23 goals and 10 assists last time round. While fellow big hitters such as Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero were protected ahead of Champions League duties, Suarez will benefit from a schedule which has also been lightened by Liverpool’s Capital One Cup exit in midweek – game time looks guaranteed, with rest and rotation unnecessary for Rodgers.

Currently sitting at 10.9 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) with an ownership of just 7%, the bandwagon is set to shift through the gears as Fantasy managers look to find a way to bring Suarez on board as the Reds gear up for a favourable run of fixtures over the next few matches. Indeed, with Palace, Newcastle, West Brom and Fulham in the next five, doubling up on Liverpool’s front two looks a viable tactic for the next few Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Brendan Rodgers once again rolled out a 3-5-2 formation for the Merseysiders, continuing with the shape utilised in the midweek Capital One Cup clash against United. With Glen Johnson still injured, Rodgers clearly remains unconvinced over his alternatives at right-back and with a number of centre-halves at his disposal, looks set to retain a three-man backline until Johnson returns to the fold.

This will allow Jose Enrique to continue on the left of the Reds’ five-man midfield, affording the Spaniard an out of position berth for the time being – an injury update issued last week suggested Johnson could be back in a “couple of weeks”, though. Also, the new formation also allows Rodgers to court caution with Daniel Agger after recent injury but with Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho all playing today, it remains to be seen just who will get the nod as Agger’s central defensive partner once the Merseysiders are finally injury-free. Enrique’s shift into midfield also allowed Victor Moses a central position behind Sturridge and Suarez though the on-loan midfielder failed to impress in his new role in “the hole”.

In the earlier game, Nathan Redmond missed out through injury for Norwich at Stoke. Having started each of the first five, the former Birmingham man was replaced by Anthony Pilkington at the Britannia and with the latter providing the assist for Jonny Howson’s winner, Chris Hughton has plenty to ponder ahead of next week’s clash against Chelsea, with Redmond’s 4% FPL owners hoping he can force his way back into contention.

    Morning lads

Would love a 2nd opinion on what to do with my free tranny:

    A) Lamps > Siggy/Erikson/Paulinho
    B) Collins > Dawson
    C) Chester > Wilson

Or the one I'm least keen on:
    D) RVP > Roon (then invest the extra cash next week)

I think B or C seems the most rational as those 2 DFers are not going to play, but it leaves me with a benching dilemma (like my 3 other DF & will play 4 MFers so no room in my team for them). Which leaves A, but just have a feeling Lamps might start getting more game time

    Alright, reworked some:

    McGregor/Marshall
    Fonte/Terry/Dawson/Baines/Rosenior
    Michu/Sigurdsson/Oscar/Ramsey/Brady
    Lukaku/Sturridge/Rooney

    Thoughts?

      why McGregor Marshall? for saves?
you have McGregor & Rosenoir from Hull
I rather have Boruc & Fonte from Southampton
or Boruc/McGregor; and replace Rosenoir with BTurner

look at the next 10 games of every player and see if you're happy with what's ahead. excessive, maybe, but you don't get another WC, so you want this to be pretty good and right for a while

Maybe Vorm and a 4.0 for GK?

That should be good through GW17, then a tough few weeks, and then you're in the January transfer window where you get another WC to use.

    Squad for next GW:

    Chesney
    Zab, Vidic, Toure
    Oscar, Mirallas, Eriksen, Michu
    Soldado, Sturridge, Lambert

    Davis, Jedinak, Figueroa, Celustka

    2FT's + 0.9m

All decent fixtures except perhaps Mirallas but EVE have a nice run soon.

    Play Figgy over Zaba?
Chesney + Jedinak -> Boruc + Ramsey (No other ARS at the mo)
Use the FT's and cash to tidy up the subs?
    Any other thoughts?

maybe just do Sczeczsny to Boruc and go into int'l break with 2FT's and 1.8 in the bank

i own Ramsey, but I'm agnostic on if he can keep it up

only other thing on Ramsey is I know Wenger said he is different this year, playing on another level with more confidence - Wenger said this after the Fenerbache match where Ramsey scored a brace... for what its worth (a smart aleck comment no doubt 😉 )

Zaba has to play at home, madness to consider dropping him IMO...

You've done well to retain 2FTs after last week, and although I like those moves, I think you will create for yourself a very difficult benching decision in subsequent weeks...

Maybe just do the Boruc move? I like Jedinak in there, very easy to bench..

With current player & team form, I have less confidence in Rooney. He looked ok last week, but the team not function well. Do we think United will immediately improve?

For Gru, only reason to lose him is 3 Arsenal in the team. One less and it looks more balanced. But he and his team are in excellent form. It looks like they can score every few minutes.

Last, United play away midweek and Arsenal are at home. Better short-term too.

That's why I'm more on selling Rooney ... at the moment.

me, i see a player who is in position to pass to Gerrard, Greedridge, or Hatable One, and also, because of those three, sometimes finds himself in good space to take his own shot

he brought the ball up the field for them quite a bit too

    Moses + Rooney --->> Brady + Suarez ... For a hit.

    Is it worth to do?

Brady fixtures will be tough on Gw8-9 and he will get surgery soon, right? Barkley can rotate with him well on the difficult fixtures. But, when will he get the surgery? How long will he absent?

Suarez should be 11.2m by Saturday. That'd be too difficult to buy him with my budget.

I took a hit to ship him out for Sturridge, already paid off and good riddance to him. Needs his chances(which will come) laid on a plate. Doesn't look very skilled in the box to me

Playing style seems to be the factor I think. Tottenham are a solid build up outfit, whereas Arsenal and Liverpool are cutting edge attacking. It's suiting their strikers points wise a lot more.

Team this week after using my freebie - are either of these worth a 4 point hit?

    A) Nolan-> Hazard. I won't be able to afford this next week, and it means I can bench Mirallas(mcy) this week.

    B) Soldado/Giroud -> Suarez(c)

    Boruc
    Terry, Zaba, Toure, Baines
    Ramsey, Mirallas, Michu
    Soldado, Sturridge, Giroud

    Davis, Nolan, Morrison, Ward

I wouldn't do A). Not sure what you've seen in Chelsea's or Hazards performances so far to want him in to be honest.

      B) would be a definite if you didn't have Studge already. I'd hold off on the hit

Cheers - it's a bit of a left field move, although Hazard does have good underlying stats and with (nor, CAR) up next I think he could do well, especially if Mata gets drafted back in and Lamps doesn't recover from his knock (pens).

Also, Nolan will drop 0.3m this week and Mirallas has a very tough fixture. Is it madness?

actually better if, like today, they score the same number of points via goals & assists, and we get 10 pages of hissy fit comments arguing over who should get more bonus points

that was useful for people who just can't go have a pint or two, and come back and check who got more bonus when it's final

he is likely to drop off anyway, but should actually improve with surgery as it surely is bothering him. I think it is a case of wait and see, with his price there probably is no need for rash actions

Need to learn the way of the system more, i guess.
