Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez make light work of struggling Sunderland, as Brendan Rodgers’ decision to continue with a 3-5-2 formation allows the Reds’ duo the chance to shine:

The Game Changer

A goal and a pair of assists took Daniel Sturridge to the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings this evening as Liverpool eased to victory in Sunderland’s first league match since the dismissal of Paolo Di Canio.

While the spotlight was on Luis Suarez, his Liverpool team-mate was amongst the points yet again as Sturridge atoned for a rare blank against Southampton last weekend with another handful of Fantasy points. Some were wary that Suarez’ return would diminish Sturridge’s potential but the former Chelsea man showed great awareness to tee up both the Uruguayan’s goals as Liverpool climbed to second.

Priced at 9.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Sturridge – along with Suarez – is set for significant investment over the next few days as the Merseysiders prepare for a home clash with Palace next weekend. While many of the other title contenders now have European commitments to contend with this week, Liverpool can now rest up until the Eagles come calling next Saturday afternoon; a factor that will surely benefit Sturridge as he looks to continue a record that has seen him score in five of the opening six Gameweeks.

The Underused

There was no real surprise that Luis Suarez stole the show on his return to league action earlier today. We handed the Uruguayan the headline act in this week’s Spot the Differential article and he duly delivered with a brace as Liverpool, somewhat significantly, scored more than two goals for the first time this term.

In a season that has mainly proved frustrating for Fantasy managers, Suarez’ instant impact served a reminder of the potential that harvested 23 goals and 10 assists last time round. While fellow big hitters such as Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero were protected ahead of Champions League duties, Suarez will benefit from a schedule which has also been lightened by Liverpool’s Capital One Cup exit in midweek – game time looks guaranteed, with rest and rotation unnecessary for Rodgers.

Currently sitting at 10.9 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) with an ownership of just 7%, the bandwagon is set to shift through the gears as Fantasy managers look to find a way to bring Suarez on board as the Reds gear up for a favourable run of fixtures over the next few matches. Indeed, with Palace, Newcastle, West Brom and Fulham in the next five, doubling up on Liverpool’s front two looks a viable tactic for the next few Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Brendan Rodgers once again rolled out a 3-5-2 formation for the Merseysiders, continuing with the shape utilised in the midweek Capital One Cup clash against United. With Glen Johnson still injured, Rodgers clearly remains unconvinced over his alternatives at right-back and with a number of centre-halves at his disposal, looks set to retain a three-man backline until Johnson returns to the fold.

This will allow Jose Enrique to continue on the left of the Reds’ five-man midfield, affording the Spaniard an out of position berth for the time being – an injury update issued last week suggested Johnson could be back in a “couple of weeks”, though. Also, the new formation also allows Rodgers to court caution with Daniel Agger after recent injury but with Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho all playing today, it remains to be seen just who will get the nod as Agger’s central defensive partner once the Merseysiders are finally injury-free. Enrique’s shift into midfield also allowed Victor Moses a central position behind Sturridge and Suarez though the on-loan midfielder failed to impress in his new role in β€œthe hole”.

In the earlier game, Nathan Redmond missed out through injury for Norwich at Stoke. Having started each of the first five, the former Birmingham man was replaced by Anthony Pilkington at the Britannia and with the latter providing the assist for Jonny Howson’s winner, Chris Hughton has plenty to ponder ahead of next week’s clash against Chelsea, with Redmond’s 4% FPL owners hoping he can force his way back into contention.

Finally got myself into top 500k after a dismal start.

Thoughts on Eriksen, didn't watch the game but heard good things, I bought him in last week only to see a solitary 1 pt, is he worth the price tag?

He looked decent in the first half, some good passes and dribbles. Did well to create the first goal (third last). He's maybe not 200% gelled and sharp, but I think he'll easily justify his price tag with the coming fixtures. Chelsea was solid defensively as well.

Was maybe going to save my Chester > Baines transfer till next week since Everton are at City. However, my first two defender spots are taken by Zabaleta and Mertesacker, leaving Ward (away to Liverpool) and Turner (home to Chelsea) competing for the third. Surely Baines' attacking potential makes him a better option than either of those?

Walcott, Benteke and Soldado -> Rooney, Sturridge and Ozil. (-8 pts.) No they said.
    8 + 14 + 2 = 24. And I captained Rooney, so that makes a total of 32.
    32 - 6 (total score of the three I transferred out) = 26.
    26 - 8 (hit points)

    =18 pts won.

shaw also an option at 4.7. I feel he has more potential for attacking and bonus than clyne. He has been getting in the box - This is from observation (saints fan) - don't know if the stats back up my thoughts.

Stats-wise there's nothing between them, I'd maybe give a tiny edge to Clyne.

Bonus-wise Clyne seems better, but it's a very small sample size.

So to sum up, going for Clyne πŸ™‚

Against West Ham Mirallas was the most forward and Central player at everton!! Over 90 mins he averaged a higher position than the 45 minute lukaku and kept jelavic out on the wing. In fact he was the furthest player on the pitch as compared to any game in the EPL that weekend! 😯

I'm having a dilemma over who to start next week.
    My front 8 are

    Michu, Oscar, Ramsey, Siggy, Brady,
    Giroud, Sturridge(C), Rooney

I currently have Oscar (nor) on the bench, before that it was Michu (sou).
Can I really drop an expensive attacking midfielder to play Brady (AVL)?

    Hello on this fine morning

2 questions for me this week, then I'll sit back and relax in the glow of my Suarez (C)

    1) Are we still considering Michu to be essential for the nice run from GW8, or are we getting cold form due to mixed form and europe league ballache ?

    2) I'm a bit worried that my team is a wee bit too top-team-heavy - any cause for concern?

    3 x TOT / 3 x LIV / 3 x ARS / 2 x UTD / 2 x EVE / 2 x HUL*

I see your Suarez (c) and raise you with a Sturridge (c).

      1) Who's got mixed form? He's got 3 goals in his last 4. He's in top form. He's far from essential though, no player is.

      2) Time will tell. I wouldn't be concerned at the moment, fixtures are great and there's no real rotation problems in the teams you've mentioned. Stick with it 'til it stops working.

HBA goal would be glorious tonight. More points and ruining all those pesky Coleman and Baines CSs. πŸ™‚

A hat trick from a fullback? It's not like FIFA mind. I'd settle for a CS and a cheeky assist πŸ™‚

You seem to change your mind quite a lot.

A few times recently, I've seen you asking if you should sell him!

I know you like to stick to your guns but all I'm saying is you really might regret not buying (and captaining) suarez. I think so anyway. Palace seem to have completely capitulated.

6th most owned striker, above Rooney, Suarez etc. 15.6% own him. Wouldn't say differential

Indeed. Suarez is currently a differential. Probably not by Saturday though!

fixtures are good, but people who don't have him have giroud or sturridge instead and their fixtures are not bad either. differential or not, i'd guess you'll not benefit too much over the next 3 GWs

i started season with giroud , sturridge and soldado and i still have all 3 πŸ˜€

think i will benefit in next 3gws

after that he is gone for good
